PS4 only takes up to a 2tb hhd. anything bigger is a waste of time. surely.

It's too thick, I attempted to fit it in my Playstation Pro as well as the original PS4. It was appox 4mm thicker than the given space.

Yes it works. I have ripped the drive out of it a few weeks ago and it works fine in my PS4.

I think I have found the answer myself. On amazon they have it (temp OOS) but if you look in the questions and answers you can find out someone there did it, ignore all the yes answers as they did it with the smaller 2TB one (amazon groups all the capacities causing confusion) but someone did actually try with the 4TB one:
"IT works fine - but the 4TB version is a little to thick so you can't fit it inside the PS4 without modding the PS4 first - I have a SATA extender in mine and the HD sat on the top - works fine but isn't as nice as having the case shut :smiley:"
I'd be tempted to try with the extender like he has, as I'd love to have a 4TB PS4 but I'd be a bit worried just leaving the bare drive sticking out. Perhaps if you could get a nice enclosure, shame it isn't just a case of sticking it in though, think my 2TB might have to do until they get thinner or someone comes up with a more elegant solution....

According to Q&A's on Amazon the 4TB drive is a bit too thick to fit into the PS4 without modding it so unfortunately it seems not.

what is the recovery services -i've had one of these (or similar model from a few monthy ago) just fail - i don't want a recovery service that will wipe my files though..is it like spinrite?
That used to be the case but recent firmware can support up to 4tb. Of course there is still the physical limitation that 4tb hdds tend to be bigger (taller) than normal.

The post above yours said it was too tight a fit for a PS4 by about 4mm. Did you have to do anything special to make it fit or are there different versions of the original PS4?
