Samsung Galaxy S7 - Perfectly fine
Go for the 500MB deal with £99.99 upfront and £22 monthly
Airtime - £14
Device plan - £8
The phone element of contract is £8/month x 24=£192
plus the £99.99 you paid upfront.
Total - 192 + 99.99 = 291.99

Step by step guide for this deal

1) Follow the get deal button, purchase the £99.99 + £22*24 tariff.

2) Receive your phone and sim card.

3) Put the sim card into your phone and go onto myO2 (app or website) and from there request the unlock code.

4) Call 202 from the same sim card as it will make things much easier, go straight to the I want to leave o2 department or something like that (I think it's thinking of leaving us? Press something) as that will connect you with the right people much quicker.

5) Tell the person you want to pay your device in full and cancel the airtime. They will ask you why, tell them you don't think the airtime is a good value for money, but you want to keep the phone because you think it's an outstanding value for money. They will ask you for card details, you tell those details and that's it, they cancel it for you in about an hour.

6) You own the phone from that point, assumed that you have done this straightaway, there won't be any charges, otherwise you will have to pay as much airtime as you have used.

7) Unlock code will come through in about 2 to 48 hours.

Hi guys. Just to give you a heads up. I also got a similar deal with o2 refresh on an iPhone 6 last year and had a lot of problems. I followed all steps has expected, like ordering, asking for unlock code, then unlocking then cancelling the contract. All was fine then 1 month after the order got a letter to say the airtime contract was active, when I cancelled. Called CS who confirmed it was cancelled and ignore that letter. Next month got another letter to say 500 was outstanding and they would pass the debt to a collection agency. Called CS back spoke to a manager who confirmed Nothing was outstanding. Asked him to send me a letter to confirm. Letter received 4 weeks later. 6 months later, applied for a change in has supplier from British gas to first utility. Not accepted due to credit reasons. Checked with their CS who referred me to experian. Created an account and paid them, no free trial and found out o2 put a default notice on my account. Called o2 back fuming and they asked me to email their credit file reference team and prove everything. Sent them all evidence and they corrected my credit file. Please make sure you have something in writting from o2 they the phone is fully paid and nothing is outstanding. I would still go for this deal if I didn't have a perfectly good working s5. Good luck :-)

"Perfectly Fine" - a new marketing term no doubt coined after many lengthy meetings where greasy chain-smoking white-collars discussed the most effective way to lure customers into buying what would otherwise be called a "Used - Grade C" product.

Yes I got this deal too. Not sure why it's expired as the deal is still on. On Fri they just had the Gold version but checking now they have the Black one back in stock too.

I requested the code as soon as I got the phone and paid of the device rental part on the same evening (before I got the unlock code). Received the unlock code the next day (about 24 hours later) and then called up to cancel the contract in the evening (about 36 hours of rental). The person I spoke to first said I'd need to give 30 days notice but I then said I was still within 14 days cooling off period so she quickly corrected herself.

I think I'm liable to pay a day or two worth of rental (couple quid at the most) but that's neither here nor there. All in all, this is a great deal and the phone is pristine condition (honestly, I cannot see why it is not described as brand new). Can't even see the slightest of scratches on it.

Phone didn't come with anything except a USB cable. No original box, charger or any other accessories. I think this is normal for the Perfectly Fine version but just making this clear.

I managed to get one of these on PAYG for £312 - an 'Almost Perfect' one arrived next day. It looks flawless. Got an Unlock code from ebay, stuck in my 3 SIM, installed stock firmware via ODIN, registered with Samsung - it has their 2 year warranty on it too! Very happy. Cheers OP. It's worth checking the stock, it's OOS at the moment, but it was when I first tried to order.

I rung up o2 to pay off the remaining balance for the device part of the contract. Still waiting for my unlock code.

Do you wait until you've received the code before cancelling the tariff contract part? I've accidentally used 12MB of the data allowance. Anyone know how they calculate the cost to be paid if you cancel the contract with some amount of allowance used? Do they do it pro-rata?

1 Dec 16 #165
oh no I've messed up I think. Paid off phone. They are apparently transferring number to a pay as you go sim and then airtime canceled on Sunday. So I'll pay for 4 days of airtime? About 4 quid. Is this what everyone else did?
davew255

First request unlock code via online chat.
Then call 202 and pay of device charges in full.
Next day call 202 again and ask to cancel the airtime plan as you have seen a better deal elsewhere.

I have completed 3 of these deals. The last one being an IPhone.
I checked the warranty online with the phones iemi no. and had 22 months warranty.
A few days after I paid off the phone I did not want to keep it so wanted to sell it on.
I thought a screen shot of the warranty as proof to the new owner would be good.
Imagine my surprise when I re checked and found that they lowered the warranty down to only 6 months.
Only after threatening legal action against O2 and Apple I had this issues resolved.
Also like others have stated it is a pain getting the tools at O2 to cancel the contract in the correct way.
Had to chase and argue about the 1st month non payment and a lot of web chats.
Great price but its not worth the hassle

I bought the Grade B (Almost perfect) on PAYG and it arrived this morning. I can't see any scratches on it at all but the sim card tray sticks out (it's not flush to the phone particularly at one end) which doesn't look great.

It came uncharged so I'm charging it now. Do you think the sim tray sticking out is a problem? I usually put a case on my phone.

Hi, I would speak to their online credit file team and ask for an update. Do you have any evidence that it was 999 before you made the purchase? If yes, then send that that too. Mention the FSO if they get too ignorant about it. My Experian was down from 999 to 500 (because of the default notice) and after speaking to them, they updated my score in 1 month. Back to 999 now.

Tried to charge me for a month of Airtime stating 30days cancellation of airtime contract, or they said I could do a 14day Cease and would have to return the phone as well (even though unlocked and paid in full). It was faulty anyway so no brainer.

Idiots - not worth the time dealing with them.

The Z5 Compact I got on Refresh was beset with issues and had clearly been returned because of them so O2 just repackaged it and sold it to someone else on Refresh.

Even though I've told them it's faulty and what's wrong with it I wouldn't be surprised if they just resell it again on Refresh to some other poor b'tard who like me was thinking 'that looks like a good deal'....
keejoonc
30 Nov 16 #143
Each to their own, but personally did not have major issues when I ordered my phone two years ago. They did charge me for cancelling airtime but I got it back without any issues.
Re being charged for airtime, my understanding is that you still need to pay for the days you had the phone for even if you cancel? So I would expect to pay at least a day or two worth of airtime depending on when you cancel your airtime.
MikefromWinchester
30 Nov 16 1 #142
I wouldn't go for this deal unless you are prepared for:

- Possible sub-standard faulty device that has issues you might not identify straight away
- Arguing with CS regarding cancelling your airtime agreement without having to send back the phone even though you have paid it off in full
- Getting charged for airtime you haven't used
- Fighting to get a refund
- Dealing with O2 (they have no idea what is going on - took 10days and 3 requests to get a jiffy bag to send my previous refresh deal phone back)

What are peoples thoughts on this vs a new OnePlus 3 on O2 Refresh? (I would say sim free from OnePlus, however they are now out of stock, presumably as they want you to buy the 3T). Price on O2 refresh would be £336 for the phone, yes more expensive than this but brand new.

No idea why this deal is news to people. This deal existed for several weeks already.
My wife picked up a 'perfectly fine' S7 edge earlier this month and it was virtually spotless. There was only one tiny faint scratch (2-3mm) on the screen which you could only see in certain light.
Re the warranty situation, I bought my previous phone (Sony Z3) through O2 refresh as well and did not have any issues with claiming warranty, which was valid for almost 2 years for some reason.
I also ordered a S7 edge last night through O2 refresh. Although you don't get any accessories or original box, I'd rather pay less.

Well you know the answer to the first question or why would I spend £700 in the first place. (iPhone owner for nine years).

If your pockets are so deep you dont care about the resale value of said £700 outlay, then good luck to you.

I'm resposible for over £2000+ works iPhone and android outlays so maybe I'm slightly more cautious.
seattle
30 Nov 16 1 #135
valid point (i wish i wouldnt have to worry about it and in some cases you just dont).. however resale value is important to a lot of 'protectionists' - especially if you're buying a pricey one out of pocket etc. It works out ok, especially with series phones so you can keep moving on up (self incentivising yourself by recouping 1/3 1/4 of the value of the next handset).

it doesnt hurt to take care of the phone; as with latest phones it seems their internals are packed in so tightly, causing all kinds of issues if you drop them regardless of causing cracks (in the case of mechanical image stabilisation in the note 4 series - phone buzzes for 3 seconds before focusing, or the lcd disease in iphone 6 plus)

Not convinced, an investment needs protecting I cant tell the difference with MediaDevil protectors on.
Those new glass ones for £1.50 on eBay are excellent as well.
I've sold a fair few iPhones in the last 9 years on eBay and the number one question is
"Has the screen got scratches / how is it cosmetically"
mart321
29 Nov 16 1 #126
Cases are a must but ive come to realise screen protectors are a waste, they scratch so easily and you end up not being able to fully appreciate the screen quality. I kept my s4 protected for two years, going through a handful of screen protectors, it was only when I took it off to sell I realised I had been missing out on the true quality of the screen . Gorilla glass is so much better nowadays as well, I can stand there with a sharp piece of steel scratching the screen up and down and it doesnt leave a mark

• apple will replace broken iPhone within first year in store but NOT with factory fresh brand new - likely to to refurb (this has started in the last year or so).

• you could probably get 'factory fresh' if your kicked up a fuss but.....

• my understanding is Refurb iPhones are BETTER than 'factory fresh' as they go through even more quality control than NEW.

We have a purchased from amazon an iPhone 6S refurb and a JLP brand new you cannot tell the difference between brand new and refurb.

This idea of cancelling the airtime and not having anything to pay apart from the phone doesn't work - at least not in an 02 store. I went in an 02 store on Sunday for an Lg phone. I was told that after 24 hours I could go back and 'refresh' my tariff for a £20 for 20gb deal. I was careful not to even open the box to the phone and not activate the sim. When I returned today I was told the sim was activated by them in store on Sunday when I purchased the package. They would not guarantee, nor would customer services who they rang, that I wouldn't be charged the first months tariff because the sim had been activated on Sunday. Customer services said if I was charged I could ring up claiming an overpayment. I would not take that risk and then have to chase them for money they would owe me. So in the end I cancelled the whole deal under the 14 day rule and left the phone with them .
gungesh
29 Nov 16 #90
Can someone clarify, there is an option 'Pay the phone in Full' under the 'tariff' selection which says '£297' + £14/month for 500mb data. Can I not use this option on refresh and then just cancel the airtime as I have already pay for the phone?

I think this is a good deal but if I got a phone covered in scratches and marks I would actually be pretty gutted. I have a S7 edge so would not go for this anyway, but it has no scratches or marks I don't use a screen protector as I don't like them and just have a jelly case. so what do these people do to there phones to get them covered in scratches.

Great phone. O2 refresh is a pile of something bad.... After paying off the full contract and having it confirmed, they continue to charge monthly rental, everntually after a number of phone calls they cancelled the contract and charged me another £350 by direct debit. Hence I paid £760 for the S7 on the last O2 Refresh deal, took me another two weeks to get my money back and more phone calls. Would never do it again - being out of pocket by £400 is terrible!!

Bought the S6 for my other half a few months ago.

Got the £199 deal. They for some reason charged in total £191 to the card including £30 up front plus £161, not the £199.

Not only that they called up and refunded a further £30 back (DD was cancelled so they had not taken extra).

Paid £161 oddly for it.

So they can mess up in your benefit, too

I bought the £395.99 S7 (New) on the last good refresh deal. It was pretty painless, but they take the money out of your account unless you're on them every day on LiveChat. Oh, and my credit score has gone up 10 points since taking the deal out...

They do still owe me £2.57 or so.

29 Nov 16 #70
Voted cold not because its a bad price (its a great price) but because of all the hassle associated with cancelling and sorting this out. There have been too many people on previous 02 refresh deals who have had to go through numerous customer service calls etc.

Few comments here mentioned that once you pay off the device in full, you lose the 12 month refurbished warranty.
Is this true? Can anyone confirm.
I'm reluctant to buy refurbished with no warranty.

29 Nov 16 #67
I would avoid this. 'Perfectly fine' or grade C at O2 are usually warranty replacements that have been 'checked' and reboxed. You will also lose the 12 month warranty once you pay off the handset with everything except an iphone (as that's honoured by Apple).
I would personally wait a month or so as the prices of these will be slashed. Samsung have been hit very hard by the Galaxy fireball fiasco and sales have taken a massive hit. The fact is, as much as Samsung want to copy Apple's model of selling expensive handsets they just don't have the brand image or desirability that iphones have and as such always reduce there prices one a phone is 8 months old or so.
jno2992

Just remember that sometimes you will still get a massive final bill that will take till the next billing cycle for them to resolve for you.

But if you want REALLY good value Xiaomi -

"Perfectly Fine" - a new marketing term no doubt coined after many lengthy meetings where greasy chain-smoking white-collars discussed the most effective way to lure customers into buying what would otherwise be called a "Used - Grade C" product.

I did this 2 years ago and it was fairly seamless. Be weary though if there is a fault which you discover after paying off the device, they might not acknowledge your warranty.

I took the refresh deal out earlier this year for the iPhone. The front facing camera wasn't working and neither was the speaker. Luckily for me it was still under warranty so Apple replaced it free of charge.

These refresh deals are attractive, but it's a roll of the dice. I had a nightmare with my one and their customer care was beyond the very outskirts of shocking, that said there are clearly many who have had it work like a dream, so good for them. Just keep your fingers crossed your account is handled by one of the good ones & not some bewildered, clueless, well-intentioned mouth-breather.

I got mine a week ago. Just the phone with no charger but it's basically as new. No a scratch can be seen on the phone with only very faint micro scratches to the screen which are impossible to see with the screen on

28 Nov 16 1 #49
Perfectly Fine phones have been a bit more loved, but are still working well.

They might have superficial scratches on the back, sides and screen but there will be no more than five deep scratches or chips up to 2mm in length. And you'll get a 12 month warranty to put your mind at ease.

My experience of these deals is the unlock code took 6 days to come through. They then charged me a £470 cancellation fee on top of the full handset cost which is currently in dispute. Tbh i wouldn't bother unless you are happy with allot of hassle and calls to a completely inept customer service that spin lie after lie.

3rd time i'm doing a refresh deal. Let's hope they honour it. I've cancelled the airtime each time. Last time they took payment for the device, and decided to also take 24 months worth of airtime too. Took a couple of months to get the money back.

They will refund. Ask for compensation. They will offer £50 via a letter/email. Just accept it! I did as did my wife. This exceeds the loss. The second time, I waited for o2 to take money from my account and complained.I could have stopped it, but I knew I would get £50
I had no issues with refunds.

Well to be on safe side. Request unlock code. They ll ask for the account (sim) to be activated. So you can just put sim in phone for the account to be activated. Please don't use any mins or data. Within 24hrs they give you unlock code.

if you are BT customer and willing to accept discount of giftcard and cashback you can have 2 year deal for brand new phone under £500 with BT/ee, this deal is around £565 over 2 years for £15 monthly sim?
cheaperthebetter
28 Nov 16 #25
I thought you asked for the unlock code before you paid for the device?

ACtivate sim then ask for a unlock code via o2 website .
Then contact CS asking to pay off device and cancel airtime.

I personally would wait for the unlock code before cancelling and pay for airtime used (obviously before cooling off period ends)

Hi, I'm not technology minded at all, buying for son - so can I check I've got it right?
I go through steps above - pay off phone etc, then I get a sim only deal?

You are paying off for the phone only. You no longer hold contract with o2. The sim you receive with phone will go invalid. As you cancelling contract. Wait for device to get unlocked. Once its unlocked use talk mobile sim. I did the same. Using three mobile sim on S6 bought via o2 refresh deal.

It works, you get a 1 year warranty, but you have to look at all those scratches.

28 Nov 16 #5
so then you order it then just cancel the airtime plan ? is that straight forward ?
