So many hotels in Dubai to recommend just one or two. Depends where you want to stay, your budget etc.
Some very nice hotels we like are Atlantis the Palm, Jumeirah Beach, Anantara the Palm, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi and Le Royal Meridien. Would personally look for HB offers but if you are staying on JBR you have far more choice.
Prices for meals out are similar to here if not slightly more, just the alcohol is expensive. In nice hotels expect to pay approx £4 for a soft drink,£5 for a coffee and around £10 for a beer/wine.

We stayed at the Movenpick at JBR, really nice and reasonably priced. Such an amazing place, loads to do and see, eating out can be as cheap or expensive as you want. Plenty of fast food in the malls and fancy restaurants to cater for all dietary desires. Taxis are cheap and the super easy to use metro is even cheaper. £5 for a day ticket. We didn't really drink alcohol but did notice it was rather pricey on the room service menu (£10 a pint).
