Do alll the different model ambilight tv's have different remote control codes ? The reason I ask is because in the lounge, my pc has the 32" version connected to it, and as our main TV (Sony 42") is getting old and needs replacing, I would like to get a 4K ambilight to replace it. I don't want the wife turning off my PC screen when she goes to turn over the new tv.

Bought this TV on the original deal for £341.99, here are my experiences so far:
1. PS4 Pro hooked up and playing Battlefield 1 perfectly - no ghosting, game looks and runs great (HDMI 1)
2. Exactly 30 days after purchase one of the Ambilight LEDs stopped working and is stuck in a pink hue - not ideal but it has stopped flickering now and i no longer notice it
3. This week I noticed the TV has developed two dead pixels (the white ones) which is very annoying
4. Android TV is simply amazing for sideloading Kodi etc, love it
5. Menus are excruciatingly slow, especially after initial switch on
6. Sound is poor but fully expected on a low price flat screen TV
7. Ambilight is simply awesome, and I love it despite the faulty LED on mine, it is very immersive (albeit turned down a little from factory default)
Summary, for the price I cannot 'fault' the TV, even with a couple of minor actual faults. If the dead pixels get worse I will be very annoyed though. TV picture is great after following some tweaks and suggestions on a youtube video I watched.

Quick question for anyone that might still be lurking on this thread as I can't seem to find the answer. Has anyone used their tv to record/set timers/ pause live tv ? I have tried putting a USB stick in and recording to that and it seems to do a couple of minutes of a program then stops. Wondering if it needs to be a usb hard disk rather than a stick as I did read that the HDD needs to be powered and find no mention of USB sticks.

I bought the 43" and have been generally impressed. The built in freesat is much better than freeview.
Only issue I have is there appears to be a couple of light spots near the edge when displaying dark images. Anybody else noticed this or do I need to return it?

Don't like this at all. Lots of software errors. Nettv stopped working message, no signal on hdmi and last night just the Phillips logo and nothing else. Going to return it to Argos and get a non android tv. Having to switch it off to reset. Only had it about two weeks. Ambilight lovely but no good if TVs is not working. Googled nettv and it's affected loads of tv's and Phillips not too good on customer service. Not sure anymore when I switch it on if it works or not! Unhappy

Yes but I have a YouView+ box anyway, considering Freesat & Sky half price as another option....I may do both and have all 3 as on a relay transmitter with Freeview Lite. The YouView box picture is much better than old Philips plasma.

Interesting.. I'm assuming only BBC Iplayer is available and the ITV, C4, C5 equivalants aren't ?
Got mine delivered after a few Argos problems. I will be asking for goodwill from them.
Anyway...
There is a update on Philips website from 11 Nov to be installed from USB it does NOT come up in ALL SETTINGS-->UPDATE SOFTWARE via a wired (or wifi) internet connection, ethernet connection is the way to go.
These were (built in Poland) destined to the German market, but Argos seems to have struck a import deal from TP Vision (the chinese partner and now full owner of Philips TV who pulled premium Philips features down to lower mid entry models - http://www.tpvision.com )
Coming from a HD Ready Philips Plasma the difference is night and day in every sense.
The SD upscaling on Freeview channels can take a minute to kick in to bring the best picture. It defo presents SD better than the Phillips plasma it is replacing.
Netflix and YT 4K are stunning and I only have Sky Broadband
The ambilight takes tv, films but esp concerts to another planet - much better than 3D will. Blu ray again amazing. Much better BT YouView picture than the old Philips on both SD & HD.
All in a fantastic buy and well recommended for the price, it is in my opinion worth £500+ so circa £350 is a bargain, leaving a few quid more for a YouView/Freeview Play/Now TV box if you want all the catch up services.

I'm having the same issues. It seems to shudder in Netflix for me also and the menu is somewhat clunky to navigate, it's similar to using a cheap tablet.
The picture quality is very good when using my PS4 but the shudder on streaming from my phone via localCast, Netflix and YouTube make this TV almost unwatchable.

I mostly watch normal terrestrial TV recorded to my Humax - usually in SD - occasionally in HD. Usually the mainstream channels BBC, C4, ITV1, C5 - occasionally something like Dave or ITV3 etc for example I am currently enjoying the Colombu series to help me unwind in the evenings..
I also like to watch the occasional BluRay or ripped 1080p / 720p files from my NAS drive.
I don't have any 4K content at present and don't have plans to acquire any..

Tbf depends on what you are used to, it no worse than my 8 year old 1080p Sony but def not as good as my Panasonic but then that was £1300 so prob unfair comparison. Also depends what else you use, for example great for blu ray and gaming and is up to date tech wise for now

I bought this TV but I'm really not happy with how it's performing. I've found that it 'lags' when playing 2k or 4k video from YouTube and it also has an un natural look when there is motion. I have changed every setting to try get the TV to work as I hoped but I'm just not having any luck. Image quality is fantastic but.

I have fallen in love with this TV, for the money it was a steal, xbox one slim games simply look amazing, PC linkd to it runing steam in big picture and games at 4k again a utter joy.
Oh and today i popped into Curry's and had a look at the more costly 4k HDR TV's, with some being over three times or more the price of this one, and i was simply stunned at how good this TV compared to them, i did see a slightly deeper colour on these TV's compared to this one in HDR offering's, but 4k looked the same on them as it does on this TV, so really nothing that could justify going £1000 plus for the same size TV.
People got a real bargain with this one, i was a LG man before but after this i am a Philips man now, and two think the last Philips product i bought before this was the Philips CD-I all those years ago.
Right, i am off to watch 4k fish tanks and wood fires on youtube. lol

Heat from me for this deal. I accidentally smashed my 1080p set last night after falling into it (don't ask), so I was on the hunt for a new 4k TV this morning when I came across this link. 15 minutes later I'd collected it from my local Argos. After spending a few hours this evening playing the very colourful Blood and Wine expansion to The Witcher III on my PS4, I'm suitably impressed. The Ambilight is fantastic, and not just a gimmick I thought I'd immediately turn off. It definitely adds to the experience and gives the illusion of the screen being a lot bigger than it is in a darkened room. Now I just need to get a good deal on a PS4 Pro to take advantage of the 4K! Be aware that the default settings out of the box are horrible, however. I followed the instructions on this video and it produces a far better picture.

thing is I don't think the phone does much does it? I thought the processing was handed over to the tv/chromecast dongle, for youtube at least.
funny thing is I've found most videos are 100% fine, but some are awful.

What ultra HDMI setting did you use, 2 or 3, plus are you using the HDMI cable that came with the slim, plus is this lag with Xbox one games or Xbox 360 games via back compact, plus I assume you are using the HDMI ports at rthe back of the TV and not the side, only the back to support full speed HDMI and HDR.
It should run fine, I have the very same setup and no lag at all, everything just run great.
can someone try casting youtube from android phone to tv. it connects fine but the video is much slower than the audio, it's very odd. built in youtube works fine. I've tries two phones, about to try a tablet. if someone could test for me I'd be really grateful

I am enjoying skyrim in 4k but that is at 30 fps at 4k, but it runs and looks fantastic, I mean really looks astonishing, everything just pop's, colour, effects, amazing, I also have the Xbox slim and that again simply looks amazing even though it is only upscaling to 4k.
As for 60fps I don't really know, I never really had a issue with games being 30/60fps but I come from a time when gaming was done from a tape cassette and fps were only counted in a windows manufacturing plant. Lol

I would just like to say a massive thanks to the OP for this deal, I have never been as blown away by an advancement in tech as I was last night when I got this home. Upscales all my blurays to ridiculous degree, so good that the missus commented - when watching Spectre - that it looked like we were watching 'James Bond on the news'. Awesome, awesome stuff.

12 Nov 16#47
If anyone can help with any of these questions, it would be appreciated.
Would this TV allow a 1440p output from a PC to be upscaled to 4k at 60 Mhz? I may hook up my PC to this TV and the 980Ti seems to be better suited for 1440p to get a consistent 60 fps in games rather than the huge hit to performance at 4k where it could struggle to hold a solid 30fps all the time.
Is lag or ghosting an issue whilst gaming at 60fps?
I was looking at the 55" 10bit 1k Samsung which has full on HDR but to be honest, I'm not convinced that spending the extra would get me a huge visual difference over this kind of set. Missus is also giving me grief over spending £1k on a TV as well.................

Cracking TV for the money, you will need to mess about with it and the picture settings to get what you want, but there are plenty of videos online to help you get the best settings, but once you hit the sweet spot it is indeed a sweet spot.
And a few things, if you have a xbox one slim and want to use 4k and HDR you need to use HDMI port 1 or 2, and you also need to go into the setting and switch on ultra HDMI on port 1 and 2, otherwise you will spend a eveiningpulling your hair out as to why your xbox one slim does not like your new TV. lol
Secondly if you want to use your PC and also 4k you will again need to use either 1 or 2, BUT, you will need a high speed hdmi cable as well, you can of course use the other ports but i found they had a bit of lag, nothing that would stop you playing but better to go for for port 1 and 2 as it is ultra fast and makes a big difference to any lag.
And thirdly, if you notice a strange flicker effect while on the console or PC, then this is caused by the sharpness setting being to high on some of the pre-set pictire options, lower it and problem solves, i spent a few hours trying to figure this out, i could only see it on the xbox one dashboard but once saw it could not be unseen, but lower the sharpnes solved this little issue......that is about all the lttile niggles i had to sort out.....
But TV is a stoker, the 4k and HDR are awesome, some of the 4k stuff on YT is simply eye popping, and i could swear every single game is better in upscaled 4k, really. lol
But overal this TV is fantastic

The optical plugs in until it clicks sometime have to use a little pressure, make sure you are plugging in right way round it's shaped, once plugged in to tv look at the end going to soundbar should be able to see red light, if not, not plugged in to tv properly, should then just work but will have its own volume control not the TV remote

Itv or itv hd? The upscaler is not the best in these sets, Dave which is low quality channel ghosts a little if you look closely at logo can see 3, the better quality channels improve a little and is not bad. Make sure Sharpness no higher than 3 or 4 and poss even off although I find images to soft with none, go into advanced menu, Sharpness and turn all off. I have a humax 4000t that should upscale and output in 4k but they stuffed it up with firmware update, promised to be fixed on 21St so going to see if that does better job of upscaling

I bought the 49 inch version of this TV after having an 8 year old Sony bravia this is a brilliant TV for the money. I watched star wars on it last night and the ambilight was awesome although had to tweak it between different settings to suit me. also I would recommend searching for correct picture settings on YouTube as out of the box the picture is too colourful. Haven't tried any hdr content as it is hard to come by at the moment. If someone wants a good smart TV that can do 4k and has nice touches such as ambilight I would recommend. If you are looking for a 10 bit panel with full hdr compatibility look for a uhd premium TV which will be starting at over £1000.

this deal has come up several times before, if you search for it will find extensive notes.
its a good cheap hdr set - slow to respond from remote, very average sound, poor upscaling of tv signal, images look soft and the sharpness setting just adds other issues however does seem to work very well as a gaming monitor, the lag isn't that bad and quality images 1080p and above look punchy, vibrant and have a lot of detail. I hadn't noticed any light bleed on mine under normal conditions although playing in dark have noticed 1 small bright spot when gaming in hdr. for the price I actually thought the black levels are pretty good, I have seen a lot worse.
can load a number of apps with it being an android set, for the money would recommend it but don't expect anything exceptional

So for someone that's going to use it as a PC monitor for day to day use with 1080p/4k video via download/Netflix , Kodi and Xbox One/PS4 with no normal TV/SD content this gets the thumbs up?
Currently using an LG 42LM615T with no problems but the Ambilight seems like a nice extra and I've fancied trying 4K out for a little while. Seems like for the price it's a steal.

I have it in my office connected to an xbox one and ps4 and have been quite pleased with its gaming performance - there is also a computer setting as well as a gaming setting but not tried it with a computer - with hdr on for gaming it also turn on image smoothing which you cant turn off but not noticed any issues - I have not had chance to mess with other settings using hdr but with gaming turned off but would expect it to increase the lag
the set does seem to require a wired connection to get the best from the download services, the tv does struggle to populate thumbnails but I know my way around them well so can find what I want without images. my advice would be to use the apps on the s4/xbox instead

Very tempted by this! Anybody have experience with this tv or similar? Would it be fine for gaming and as a bedroom TV?

TV picture is great after following some tweaks and suggestions on a youtube video I watched.
cheers
The update showed up on the tv, didn't have to use a usb
Only issue I have is there appears to be a couple of light spots near the edge when displaying dark images. Anybody else noticed this or do I need to return it?

The picture quality is very good when using my PS4 but the shudder on streaming from my phone via localCast, Netflix and YouTube make this TV almost unwatchable.
I also like to watch the occasional BluRay or ripped 1080p / 720p files from my NAS drive.
I don't have any 4K content at present and don't have plans to acquire any..
Cheers

49" tv
Oh and today i popped into Curry's and had a look at the more costly 4k HDR TV's, with some being over three times or more the price of this one, and i was simply stunned at how good this TV compared to them, i did see a slightly deeper colour on these TV's compared to this one in HDR offering's, but 4k looked the same on them as it does on this TV, so really nothing that could justify going £1000 plus for the same size TV.
People got a real bargain with this one, i was a LG man before but after this i am a Philips man now, and two think the last Philips product i bought before this was the Philips CD-I all those years ago.
Right, i am off to watch 4k fish tanks and wood fires on youtube. lol
edit: just checked. Code is expired! So this deal is expired too.
edit: just checked t's&c's. Turns out the voucher is a code inside the fasttrack email you had to show them when picking up order from store, it is near bottom of email.
Just a heads up for anyone who didn't know
It does work with SkyQ in UHD.
Thanks OP
How bad or good is it for watching non-HD telly channels?
Thanks
funny thing is I've found most videos are 100% fine, but some are awful.
I'm going to try a really bad one on a chromecast v1 I have as a test.
It should run fine, I have the very same setup and no lag at all, everything just run great.
As for 60fps I don't really know, I never really had a issue with games being 30/60fps but I come from a time when gaming was done from a tape cassette and fps were only counted in a windows manufacturing plant. Lol
My Panasonic has had no issues with the ps4 pro that I've noticed yet, only game not sure of is infinite warfare read was hdr but doesn't seem to have had update yet
Been using it all day and I havent even touched the normal channels. Just been watching Kodi, also the Ambilight makes the viewing experience so much better.
Will make sure my next purchase will have ambilight too.
Used below to get decent picture settings.
Picture settings
There is a video on YouTube for the 6501 settings which explains what they are, Philips call things differently so for example backlight is contrast etc bit annoying if used to other brands
Cheers truegamer23
its a good cheap hdr set - slow to respond from remote, very average sound, poor upscaling of tv signal, images look soft and the sharpness setting just adds other issues however does seem to work very well as a gaming monitor, the lag isn't that bad and quality images 1080p and above look punchy, vibrant and have a lot of detail.
Currently using an LG 42LM615T with no problems but the Ambilight seems like a nice extra and I've fancied trying 4K out for a little while. Seems like for the price it's a steal.
