Li-ion cells are normally about 3.6V, so a 18V battery would need 5 cells (and should be just over 20V when fully charged). 6 cells should result in a 21.6V battery...
However, I think the Lidl drill may have a 2Ah battery, compared to the aldi's 1.5Ah.

is this better than the BOSCH CORDLESS 18V 2.0AH LI-ION COMBI DRILL 2 BATTERIES
cold...got a worx 20v brushless hammer drill with 2 x batteries, intergrated light etc £44....loads better....admittedly it wasnt on offer in all homebases...

So you got a bargain somewhere that was available nowhere else, and you think that solitary one makes a deal which is available EVERYWHERE "cold" ?

Looks like it only comes with 1 battery which , to me, is a problem and I think it would be difficult (and expensive) to buy extra...
Check the IAN number before ordering, if it is not on the website check the instructions for an order form. Lidl recently started doing interchangeable batteries for some of their tools, so it is possible they may have changed battery designs.

and tradespeople need a decent drill. once you have owned a decent Makita or Milwaukee, you would never touch one of these things because they cant replace even a cheap ac powered drill.

Have one bought last year and charged, still battery charged and working powerful, hope they have not changed design but worth it

I was chatting to the boss of a local company some years ago who's an acquaintance of my dad, he told me that he'd stopped buying Makita drills for his fitters as they were always going missing or being dropped from ladders. He'd switched to buying budget own brand drills and stocks up when he sees a good offer.

thats not saying thought they are not better, just that people either steal them (because they are better), or when they get damaged it costs him more to replace the better ones.

Complete novice here! Do I need to buy separate 'bits' eg. For screwing screws as it were??!!!

You should get a basic double-ended bit inclued, which will out last the drill.
When the drill breaks you can also use it as a hammer, so get yourself a bag of nails.

You need to buy a set of bits & if in regular heavy use, these have a finite life.

When you recover from this er.....blistering wit, ask around on the net at the quality of Parkside tools you'll be pleasantly surprised. As for the bits, pretty much most fit. Besides they'll have a set going cheap in the store at same time. They normally do

No actually they're not.
I'll leave you to continue paying three times the cost for a less enabled tools.
Most of Lidl's Parkside tools are German or Austrian made, apparently (yes it was a shock to me too) and the odd one that is made in taiwan or China are made to same high specs used by big name makes (many of whom now have their stuff made in Far East like even Snap On and Bahco

No, he wasn't saying the Makita's weren't better quality drills, just that the cheap ones he was buying did the same job required of them just as well. The cost of replacement batteries was another factor.
My father when he was doing kitchen fitting, carpentry, cabinet making and the like, often favoured a cheap 12V Black and Decker with no hammer action and an even lower powered Bosch over his more expensive drills, simply because they were lighter, so over the course of the day less tiring on the arms when reaching, and more compact for getting in tight spaces. One for drilling, the other for screwdriving, so he didn't waste time swapping bits. He had a 24V drill for jobs that required the extra torque and always uses an SDS drill for masonry. The cheap diy drills, particularly the Black and Decker, lasted several years of professional use.

Had mine since last time they had them in. After regular use, I'm more than pleased with it.

Looks like the battery rating is also important, not just the volts? But they don't state what it is. 1.5Ah is the cheaper type and 3.0Ah are more expensive.
Anyone know what this one is?

I disagree. I used a Lidl drill for 3 years daily at work. Eventually the brushes in the motor burned out but it worked well.

Non of the battery powered drills wont work as good as ac powered. Even if you buy battery drill for 200pounds it wont be as powerfulls as ac for 30 pounds
