Okay a heads up on Acer's Black Friday event. There's a banner on site showing "upto 65% off" on the 25th for 24 hours only. Which sounds good. We've been given a tip off on some of the prices, which are looking pretty decent right now. Probably lots more to come though. Delivery will be free which is always a Brucey bonus

A Predator 15 G9-591 for £1019.99!?!? What a bar-Oh wait. It's cheaper than that at John Lewis (£979), comes with a backpack and a free headset and a 2 year guarantee. And that's not even on sale or special offer. Not to mention it's a 970 and not a 1070, which you can get for an extra £80~.
Getting a bit fatigued with all these "Black Friday deals", that are shops trying to get rid of unwanted stocks at basically RRP.
A shame, as some items on here (Acer B326HK) are quite a good bargain, but they've mixed poor "deals" in there too. Tarnishes the sale a bit.

Careful with Acer, we had a tablet which failed and after heavy resistance they sent us a new one through warranty. The replacement also failed shortly after and they straight up refused to honour warranty. Shouts poor quality product -> profit further by making consumer buy it twice.
Their more expensive products might be OK though but I wouldn't know.

I'll second that. nothing worse than having high spec gadget that just does not work! IMHO, tablet is much easier to choose. I'll go for Samsung all the way as everything just works with it and is robust.

Hi, thanks for the reply. my rig is i7 4770k with gtx 780 (bit lower spec than gtx 970) and I love to play various games (include fps but just casual gamer) but love to see nice colours on the monitor (e.g. for movies)
currently torn between 3 options:
1. unbelievably cheap lg 29UC88 29" ultrawide curved (!) ips. IMHO, 1080 on this is fine because it's less tall than 24". however, I'm not to sure the performance of game on this monitor, it seems to have high input lag and I don't know how important gsync on this monitor. will I get screen tear? will it be annoying to play games? Racing game would be the desire for ultra wide screen but it will me meaningless if high input lag ruin the game?
2. Should I go for more expensive 27-28"(sadly not ultrawide) monitor such as Asus rog or acer predator which has gsync,2k/1440, tn and low input lag BUT more than double the cost of LG? The issue that I have with them is I fall in love with the idea of ultrawide and ips but these monitors is not any of those and well known for bad QC (ghosting, blb, and crack lines). what's the best way to overcome this? buy warranty? I had issue with Asus brand in the tablet area and sworn never buy their product again as I have seen their high spec items which does not work(very annoying!), I prefer brand like Samsung which just work without any issues for years. I'm dreaded that this acer and Asus monitor will be as bad as my Asus tablet experience
3. Benq gaming Monitors which most certain would be tn, often without gsync. This brand well known for gaming purposes but I lose all the features that I like as it won't be: ultra wide, curved, ips, and gsync (big sigh!)
Any thoughts which one I should go for? And what's the reason?

Cheap would be under £200?
I have a ok desktop that I rarely use, and a good 19inch laptop at home for my general needs. Just looking something I can carry around and not be too worried if it gets knocked around a little. My big Asus laptop is far too heavy and big to carry.
I'd prob just use make use of time at work to work on some excel / word documents and little browsing. At home I'd use my normal laptop and desktop anyway.
Battery life....i wouldn't be on it constantly at work...prob 2-3 hours on and off or during lunch. 6 hours would suffice...plus it would prob go in power saving mode at work anyway...hope that helps you (or anyone else) help me.
Thanks
Salfordgirl1 to dgarda
23 Nov 16#20
No chance of you getting 6 hours and spending £200.
Maybe check if a Chromebooks meets your needs. I wouldn't buy anything with an AMD CPU though, it'll burn through your battery, be slow and get hot.

Can anyone advise if that acer 2 in 1 laptop is any good for under £160? I'm looking for a cheap netbook for work..want to be able to carry it around...need decent battery life..just for basic word / excel and browsing..

23 Nov 16#16
You're going to need to be a bit more specific than simply "Cheap", if you want any suggestions or feedback. For an 'ultrabook' £600-700 is "cheap".
The Acer laptop is little more than a tablet with a keyboard throw in on it. Reviews aren't good. I'd imagine doing work on it would be awful. Wouldn't suggest it.
When you say "decent battery life", any idea how many hours you're talking roughly? Anything above 4-5-6 hours starts to cost a premium.

what is the best monitor 2k (4k too heavy on my gpu) with gsync 27-28" monitor with high refresh rate for gaming. I'm looking for such monitor but it seems it narrows down to these acer and Asus brands. and the qc on both sounds dreadful.
Salfordgirl1 to fr3dy77_sp33d
23 Nov 161#10
As far as I know there's no such thing as a "2k" monitor.
Your selection for a good gaming monitor will basically be limited to Asus, Acer and BenQ though. Sometimes Samsung or LG throw their hat at it, but never seriously. The very best will be Acer and Asus.

There's 1080p, 1440p, 4k and then 8k.
You probably mean 1440p.
And rather than asking a deals website what the best monitor is, it's probably best to ask google. Like this one: http://www.144hzmonitors.com/best-gaming-monitor-2016/
