Of course it is, your last comment is like saying my new BMW cost £30,000 but you can pick up a new Fiat for £5,000 and of course the BMW is better, just like the North face is better. It comes down to quality.

Its a Polartec fleece, and is better manufacture quality to generic fleece - all the top mountaineering brands use them, you might even find that Berghaus' premium lines also use them.
Admittedly, these NF fleexes used to be ~ £25 on sale, but prices have been creeping up the last few years, and I'd expect them to increase more next year.
