Apple Ice Wine is a unique concept, in the ultra premium after dinner wine market. Niege, a Canadian family business was created and is managed by La Face Cachée de la Pomme. The company works in partnership with the major international wine company Boisset family estate, but remains an independent family business. Produced since 1994, it is the first apple ice wine to be commercialised in Quebec and internationally, and is exported to 25 countries worldwide.
The apples are picked while the temperature was approximately -15°C, the fruits still hanging on trees were dehydrated by the sun and literally cooked by the cold and wind. Sugars were concentrated through natural cryextraction. Frozen apples were then pressed in order to extract the precious nectar.
The extracted must was then placed in stainless steel tanks where it fermented for a for a period of approximately eight months, at low temperatures, before being bottled.

I bought a few bottles of this a few months ago when Lidl were selling at £3 a bottle to clear the shelves. Although award winning, it really isn't to my taste and tastes more like a sweet liqueur. I thought it was more palatable when mixed with ice and ginger ale.

I love cider (and wine) but hated this stuff. As theredw0man says, more like a sweet liqueur than anything else, certainly not recognisable as cider.
Maybe if you've never tried it grab a bottle, but I wouldn't fill your cellar without tasting it first.
