Ok so i see these every year and ive never took the bite. Is this stuff just for sandwiches etc or part of a meal, or anything?

It's cured pig's leg, not cooked just aged for a very long time. It's definitely an acquired taste, very rubbery. It's supposed to be eaten on it's own or with bread as tapas, but I've bought a pizza with it on before by accident.

I seriously wouldn't bother unless you have a way to slice them wafer thin. We have an electric slicer and tried with that but it's still like chewing leather. Would love to know how others have sliced theirs.

Reviews a couple of years ago were poor; the comments identified that this isn't good quality meat & that it is chewy and tastes "minerally"; disappointing.

Zombie Flesh, probably a good comparison... Or new marketing brand name :-)

We bought the big one from Aldi last year but would never buy it again. Tasted horrible and was really chewy. Ended up throwing it away after trying loads of different ways of serving it, even tried cooking it.
Wife was totally shocked when somebody paid me £5 for the wooden stand that held it, at a car boot sale :stuck_out_tongue:

I bought it also and it was absolutely foul. It just tasted like chemicals!

Bought one last year, chucked a load away.
To the touch it was extremely greasy and as per the comments above couldn't cut it.

Shame that the reviews (published and, as above, first hand) are so poor. I would have been keen on getting one had they been good.

it's a personal preference thing. you either like this kind of ham or don't. I personally love it with cheese, olives and dried tomato's. There is no difference to this or the large ones in flavour as I have tried both but always have way too much waste from a large one and it's hard to cut around the bones so these mini versions are perfect to get a nice amount of ham over a sensible Christmas period.

Definitely an acquired taste! I love it but the wife hates it....the Serrano that is.
Lots of vids on YT showing carving, but this is the best...
Awesome. Was looking yesterday on Amazon Spain to order jamón.
Thanks.

Not Iberian jamón? Never mind then.

The nice thing about this smaller one is the lack of bone which makes carving slices much easier plus being a mini version, means you are not left with loads of waste. I would never buy a full leg for £30 because I would never eat it all. These mini versions are perfect size, easy to slice thin slices off, and I personally really like the flavour and would recomend it each year.

It's OK for people who just want jamón without ordering from overseas or checking Iberian shops for it. The thing about this jamón/presunto is that it's not reportedly Iberian (Portuguese/Spanish) which is a big deal-breaker for me (not authentic).
On the box of the one I bought it says "Produced in Spain using Spanish Pork" so the reports are clearly wrong !

If your store has any left these should now be on offer at around £8.99.
Don't bother asking where, if you do live near here and shop at aldi they are near the till and have loads so they will be there next shop.
When I say loads it was probably around 100+ last Mon, 50+ today.

The Spanish never bother to refrigerate it as they eat it all the time.
Ps...note these are Serrano and NOT Iberico. Check out more comments on this thread...
