These devices read the microchip you already have between your cat's shoulder blades and unlock if the cat has been authorised. You can allow multiple cats access. The flap only restricts entry, but has the usual manual latch for controlling access further.

I was going for the flap, but decided the feeder was easier since I wouldn't need to remodel the cat entrance in our porch wall. We might also have needed extension tunnels with would add to the cost of the flap and the amount of diy required. The feeder is also useful for restricting other cats and dogs from the expensive cat food.

Agreed very happy with our Sureflap microchip catflap. Saved us a fortune in lost food and stopped strays spraying in the house. I paid £15 more and thoroughly recommend

Vets love to get cats on to Hills Prescription, it makes them a fortune.
My neighbours cat has a smart cat pal that tailgates him through the flap and shares his food. They can get very clever when there is food involved.
Anyway, hot deal.

That's why I buy his Hill's food online! He did have a lot of bladder issues with loads of overwashing of his lower belly due to the discomfort. So the diagnosis wasn't too suspect.
Agreed that no solution is likely to be perfect, but there are some good reviews of the catflap and feeder on their amazon pages.

Most other electronic cat flaps only control which cats can enter but will let any cat out.
