It's a very nice display. Mine arrived today.
First impressions
Lovely build quality, doesn't feel budget or anything compared to my Alienware 13
Very very nice keybaoard, nice and bouncy with great lighting
Screen has v good viewing angles. I had to double check it wasn't IPS so your comment makes sense. Matt display so no glare
Speakers not as beefy as I wanted give it's 2.1 sound. Need to play with settings more I think.
Games, ultra 1080p 60fps...it's a GTX 1060 so it doesn't break a sweat on Skyrim Special Edition, Star Wars Battlefront or MGS V I tested. Feels like I need to plug into 4K to to really test its legs out
V v happy with the laptop
Edit: fan noise, near total silence when the GTX is idle and its using the I5 integrated is a HD 530. During gameplay the fans are audible up to 60% system volume.
Back to build quality, this feels like my Alienware. It has that tactile soft touch feel and feels so solid. Time will tell how it lasts but for me if you hid the brand I wouldn't say it was a budget machine

Medion are owned by Lenovo. If you need to return your Lenovo laptop to Lenovo it actually goes to Medion who are honestly really good. They collect it via DPD or Parcelforce and it goes to Germany, its repaired and returned to you, all completely free of charge.

medion have been around forever, they are a generic computer company like dell.
I owned a gaming laptop from them several years ago. Had it for a couple of years before selling and upgrading to a desktop. Overall it was very good quality for the price paid and I would use them again given my positive experience.
Yeah even this model is £1049 at Currys, then its jump up to about £12-1300 for next cheapest.
I ama guessing the 1060 laptop chip version is worth about £300-350 so with Quidco this is a great price.
The 1060 outperforms the old GTX 980m

I'm sorely tempted, that's a superb price for a GTX 1060 laptop. Suspicious that it may have a TN screen though.
Where's the cost been cut? The only negative I can see is that the battery life is pathetic (3-4 hours...and usually a companies estimates are exaggerated) and that's it quite heavy, which shouldn't be a big deal.
IPS Screen possibly?. Cant imagine you will get a better laptop anywhere for the specs/price.

Would like to hear your feedback if you feel like sharing here.
I have bought several desktops from Medion (Quidco and price tipped it for me also).. good products still going strong. One time had to Email about delivery because channel tunnel had delays due to holiday rush, Medion were excellent returning replies.
Never purchased a laptop and would like to hear some hands experience.
Thanks

I've lost faith in Trustpilot lately, reviews rarely seem to be positive on many companies.
Aldi UK own brand clothing I have personally found to be worse than old rags, and their CS Team a bunch of "Bankers", if you get my meaning!
Medion on the other hand, both in the UK and in Germany have in my considerable experience been magnificent.
They have performed above and beyond regardless of the item being outside of warranty period. I would have no hesitation in buying their products.
My Erazer is about 2.5 years old and they are still helpful with any problems I have; especially valued since the upgrade to Win 10 threw up a few issues.

If it makes you feel good, by all means talk about Tesco and ASDA, I was merely pointing out that reports to Trustpilot have recently been more than usually negative, and whilst I agree wholeheartedly that Aldi is a croc o'sh1t, I had defended the reputation of Medion who's Customer Service is first class.

I'll admit this was a while back but I bought a Medion pc from Aldi, the graphics card had a problem. They sent someone to my house to change the graphics card. Certainly couldn't fault the customer service there
p.s. Heat added and bought :-) Worth trying the quidco even if it doesn't pay out, I'm hoping it does as currys are also doing a deal on Medion pcs for 10% off so you never know.

That's not from the Argos website, and as I have shown there are X7847 models that have TN screens. So you can't be sure which screen this one has. Great if it is IPS, but you can't be disappointed if it's TN.

Medion are a subsidary of Lenovo. They often sell products at Lidl
I used to work at their call center as their first line support. Unless they've really upped their game, I wouldn't even touch it with a telegraph pole, let alone a barge pole.
It'll have great sounding 'headline' features while skimping out everywhere else.
Axeboy

21 Nov 16#46

Shard
21 Nov 16#47
If you work in a call center you're going to be dealing with complaints all day, it's going to give you a negative view of a product
Medion pcs used to be notorious for being packed with great components but the motherboard, power supply and case would be exactly sufficient for the job, you couldn't easily upgrade them, but they were still generally great pcs. I think this matters less in a laptop though
Salfordgirl1
21 Nov 16#48
The 1060m is as good as a 980. So, it will almost always outperform your 970, yes lol

21 Nov 16#49
Thanks, good background on the quality of the parts, I think that for these laptops they are using Clevo bases, so they should be decent one should hope.
I ask because I am currently a Support Team Lead for a large software company so I understand that they will get complaints. I am more bothered about how the business reacted to the issues. I know that if I promise a customer an email or a call the next day, that is when I will call or email. I do also know that Medion is only the manufacturer and that the contract is with Argos so the 1st year of warranty should be pretty smooth, as you can always exercise your rights if they don't fix the laptop or give you a replacement one within a month.
filthycatbox1
21 Nov 16#50
This is the exact specification of the Acer V Nitro I bought a few months back. So whilst I can't comment on the build of this laptop, the parts enable you to run most new games with surprisingly high fps. One thing to bear in mind however, the ROG one you linked is not VR ready which this one is.
Shard
21 Nov 16#51
Is VR ready a real thing, i.e. different APIs or something, or is it a best guess as to which card will work?
filthycatbox1
21 Nov 16#52
Good question. There's the benchmark set by Steam (I think) which applies to the Vive and Oculus which is minimum GTX980. That said though, the new flood of headsets which Microsoft have been teasing out have set the mark much lower which would theoretically make this laptop useable with the Hololens when that sees the light of day.

Just a few other points for anyone who bought it. There are three drives mapped, C for Windows is part of SSD as is recovery E. The HDD is D drive. Steam is pre installed with all three drives mapped but you need to manually point steam to the drives and obviously use D as main download drive.

does it actually stop you from launching VR games? (seems unlikely), all GTX 10 series laptops are VR Ready and on paper this laptop would not brake sweat supporting a rift or vive. The gtx 1060 is outperforming a desktop 980 (with an AMP) in tests:

I have finally had decent time to play today. Had to manually update Nvidia drivers from their site because Nvidia experience doesn't trigger update to most recent drivers.
Tested Rise Of The Tomb Raider, The Division, Battlefield 1, Doom, MGS V, Star Wars Battlefront, Skyrim Spec Edition and Forza Horizon 3. All run super smooth on ultra.
Some slight issues though. On Doom there is a diagonal screen tear that appears whenever you move. Seems others on steam forums have same issue.
Tomb Raider and Forza Horizon are slow to load. Not sure if it's because I am downloading from Steam, Windows Store and Origin in background. Currently downloading GTA V, GOW 4 and Titanfall 2!
Overall I love the machine. Pretty quiet for a full power gaming laptop and so nice not to worry how a game will be handled by the graphics card.

you're just not going to get a gaming laptop deal like this again, nearly a grand is a lot for a laptop but the GPU performance jump in pascal laptops is incredible. I could have bought a desktop and monitor for my VR Vive setup but it would have cost me so much space (room scale VR) so this should be the perfect answer
There's no creaking it feels rock solid and as others have said this keyboard is a pleasure to use, you just want to keep using it. It's very nippy and I'll be putting it through a VR stress test tonight. Nvidia are really acting strange with the whole 'minimum VR spec' as this laptop will easily do VR (a ram upgrade will help but isn't needed)
to my surprise the warranty is in fact 2 years:
I suppose my only concern here is if the i5 6300hq for whatever reason isn't up to the VR task. From what I've read and I've read lots it should have no problems, I've used a desktop i5 6400 with VR before with no issue so I can't see a problem - passmark actually rates the i5 6300hq slightly higher
I will update this to let you know how it did with VR, thanks

It's not running the games off of the on-chip graphics by any chance? It shouldn't be because nvidia software is so good. I've had two generations of laptops with Optimus and it works great but just occassionally (only once) it ran something off the on-chip. If you go to your nvidia contol panel there is a way to tell the machine to run a game with the nvidia card. Try that. That CPU shouldn't have any problems with games, it won't be the CPU.

Have you uninstalled McAfee? I've got this laptop and it made GTA V unplayable, took it off and it's running fine
I actually had to go into the BIOS and change one of the power settings for the GPU, I can't remember what it was called but it worked. I used MSI afterburner to see if my GPU usage was acting weird and all I found out was that the CPU was running at around 80-100% and the GPU only at 50%. Once I changed the setting in the BIOS the CPU is still clogged but GPU usage is up a good amount. Could I get your email in a PM just for future questions.

They collect it via DPD or Parcelforce and it goes to Germany, its repaired and returned to you, all completely free of charge.

cracking deal OP!
I owned a gaming laptop from them several years ago. Had it for a couple of years before selling and upgrading to a desktop. Overall it was very good quality for the price paid and I would use them again given my positive experience.
I've been unable to find a specific review for this laptop however you're likely to find reviews for others within the series that use similar components (and most of them will use the same chassis) http://www.notebookcheck.net/Medion-Erazer-X7847-MD60342.180914.0.html
I ama guessing the 1060 laptop chip version is worth about £300-350 so with Quidco this is a great price.
The 1060 outperforms the old GTX 980m
IPS screen apparently.
I'm suspicious of how they've got the price down so low. It's at least a 200-300+ saving before you even include Cashback, which then makes it £400~.
CPU, good.
RAM, decent.
GPU, great.
Screen, brilliant.
Storage, not bad.

I have bought several desktops from Medion (Quidco and price tipped it for me also).. good products still going strong. One time had to Email about delivery because channel tunnel had delays due to holiday rush, Medion were excellent returning replies.
Never purchased a laptop and would like to hear some hands experience.
Thanks
Aldi UK own brand clothing I have personally found to be worse than old rags, and their CS Team a bunch of "Bankers", if you get my meaning!
Medion on the other hand, both in the UK and in Germany have in my considerable experience been magnificent.
They have performed above and beyond regardless of the item being outside of warranty period. I would have no hesitation in buying their products.
My Erazer is about 2.5 years old and they are still helpful with any problems I have; especially valued since the upgrade to Win 10 threw up a few issues.
From the Argos Quidco terms and conditions: "Cashback will not be paid in conjunction with any other offer, voucher or discount code unless listed on this page, or with any other discounts such as staff or student discounts "
I'm only on the fence as I was saving up for the 1080Ti for my desktop, which do I want more...
Good deal but just be careful with warranty issues

...Their products ain't too shabby either!
p.s. Heat added and bought :-) Worth trying the quidco even if it doesn't pay out, I'm hoping it does as currys are also doing a deal on Medion pcs for 10% off so you never know.
This laptop was £1049.99 last month
https://www.pricehistory.co.uk/product/6183378/medion-erazer-x7847-173-inch-ci5-8gb-1tb-128gb-ssd-laptop
Which is better? I currently have this ordered at 699.99
Remember though to factor in monitor and other peripherals If you dont have them they could add up depending on what you want.
I used to work at their call center as their first line support. Unless they've really upped their game, I wouldn't even touch it with a telegraph pole, let alone a barge pole.
It'll have great sounding 'headline' features while skimping out everywhere else.
Medion pcs used to be notorious for being packed with great components but the motherboard, power supply and case would be exactly sufficient for the job, you couldn't easily upgrade them, but they were still generally great pcs. I think this matters less in a laptop though
This build is better than this laptop in every way, you can hunt for deals on here to maximise your spend. I would also look at the monitor deals on here aswell.
That is just a random part list BTW I found on pc part picker after a minute of looking as an example.
"The Medion Erazer X7847 has a TN Display.
Thanks for your question!"
Also the battery can't be replaced, it says this on the box. Not sure how much that matters on a power hungry beast like this anyway
You would have been able to read this earlier today had HUKD added the perfectly innocuous post I wrote which included a German review of the Medion with the 1060. Are we being censored now?

Don't mean to be pedantic but I was in a rush and installed 2 games to C wasting bandwidth so just a heads up

in the real world this beast will be fine for VR
Hope u guys manage to get one while offer on or nice alternate
Thanks to dkwookies for finding this, it's just what I was looking for.
This is the first gaming laptop i've had that wasnt custom made & i'm very happy with the build quality. It is primarily plastic but it certainly doesn't feel cheap. The keyboard is amazing. Honestly it's a silly small thing but i've never had a laptop keyboard feel so enjoyable to type with. I feel like i could go forever. Only game i've installed/played at present is Street Fighter V on it's max & it has run it comfortably.
Seems to be in and out of stock at the moment. Glad you guys managed to grab one.
The Medion Erazer X7847 (& all Medion products sold through ARGOS) come with a 12 Month warranty, during which time should you encounter a problem you can contact the Medion Service Center whom will arrange a repair or replacement depending on the circumstance.
I hope this information helps and thank you for your question!
The make of the RAM is Hynix.
The full RAM description is: SO DDR4-2133 8GB HMA41GS6AFR8N-TF
How is the screen in general, does it support G-Sync?
I always download Driver booster to update all the drivers in one click of buttons and you have no more Windows crashing or blue screen of death! lol
When they delivery laptop boxed to me and the boxed itself was damaged as it wasn't very well packed.

That says IPS panel, so are these different units?
Anyone any idea whether Argos will get more stock or have I missed out?
