Fly from Manchester on 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th May and return on 16th, 23rd, 30th, 6th June (plus a couple of other dates for longer/shorter trips).

Outbound flight is 7 hour 10 minutes and return is 6 hours 20 minutes. Put some examples in the first comment.

Thats a great comparism, cos theres nothing to do in Manchester/Liverpool. They have nothing going for them, sports wise no teams to watch, music wise - no heritage at all. Where as you can go to London go on the tube avoid eye contact with everyone, stay in over priced hotels, fight congestion everywhere. Its 3 hours from Boston to NY so if you need your fix its easy enough to get there. So it sort of makes sense? There is more to England than London, believe me I have been there, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Exeter, Lake District, York, Skegness

I went to Boston, went whale watching ..........17 bags of sick later never saw a whale. It's more about USA history really I found it mostly boring and I would not go again.

I've not been (always wanted to) but I know from when I went to the States last time it was on our list to visit because of things like Salem (old witch town), Boston Tea Party ships, Fenway Park, loads of museums, Freedom Trail (passes loads of locations significant historically to the USA. These are just the really touristy things to do. I'm sure theres way more to do.

We stayed the Hilton (not the posh level) outside Boston and got the Bus and train into the city every day. Like almost every country except the UK public transport is run for the public and is on time, clean and comfortable. The only danger is being picked up by the police for Jay walking but if your sensible that shouldn't happen. Best advice is to make sure your check the weather.

Boston is great but traditional accomodation can be very expensive, to the extent that this great flight price still doesn't result in a cheap break. If you're thinking of going to NY, we took the train from Boston and it was a very simple/affordable trip.

Boston is well worth a visit! Especially at these prices! We went same time of year this May and it was lovely! Just to give inspiration, we did a 16 night trip, 2 nights Niagara Falls, 3 nights Toronto, 4 nights Boston and 6 nights NYC. In all honesty, that was a bit tiring! But would highly recommend doing something similar. Book return flights to Boston and do anything east coast USA! Boston and NYC would be great that time of year if you've not been.

I went to Boston for 9 months during the summer in 2003. We lived on Commonwealth Ave just near Boston University. Had a great time. So much to do there. The markets are great. Home of lobster! Go to a baseball match, see Boston celtics play basketball, go to the cheers bar, loads of cruises, Chinatown, Harvard and Boston University. Loads of trips to do Cape Cod, New York.

Contemplating going again at that price!

Well it's sort of like a tourist coming to England to visit Manchester/Liverpool instead of London. Doesn't really make much sense. There's hardly anything to do there. Boston's a fantastic city & I don't agree about the people being rude either (though I guess they may be if you work around miserable whinging about their home town being crap!)

If you like your food that great pizzas & pastries in the North End or go to Quincy market and choose literally anything or James Hooks for a lobster roll and clam chowder.

If your a sports fan get over to Fenway or go watch the Bruins or Celtics.

The city is very walkable but I prefer using the T, which makes it easy to stay out of town (e.g Somerville) to save a bit on expensive hotels.

I guess the history side is down to tastes, but in my view if your doing two weeks get down to Cape Cod for the first week, check out the Pilgrim history in Provincetown (which is funky, arty & "open minded" beachside town, it's also the way place to whale watch from as it closer to the whales than the one from Boston), come back via Plymouth (go see the Mayflower & the plimoth plantation) then back to Boston for the freedom trail/tea party buts, it all joins up quite well.

Alternate, is to head north and go and visit the white mountains which are quite spectacular and if you prefer hikes, wildlife, zip lining or even cable cars/trains up mountains.

Not entirely accurate. First the Air Tanker a/c are only 2 years old and are owned by Air Tanker, the ones seconded to TC are not used for RAF duties (except during a national emergency). The cabin crew and service is entirely by TC crews. The in flight entertainment issue is being addressed, but on a 6:30 flight it is not a deal breaker.
The feedback from passengers is positive about AT services.
It is likely, but not definite, that Air Tanker will operate the BOS service next summer, but since the aircraft are painted in TC colours, the interiors are the similar and the crews are TC employees, you will be pressed to notice the difference.

4 Nov 16 #82
I looked at the cheapest tickets yesterday, but we just did an East Coast USA trip last year! Boston is an ideal place to base a road trip, we picked up a car, then drove to the White Mountains, up to Bar harbour in Maine, Boothbay Harbour, then flew back to New York to head home (the first week was manic, flew into NY with Thomas Cook, 3 nights there, train to washington DC, flight to Buffalo for Niagara, then flight to Boston) internal travel is very cheap, so don't feel you are stuck in Boston for 2 weeks when considering this deal. If anyone wants any info on the places we vsisited feel free to ask, we stayed here for our 1 night in boston, http://charlesmarkhotel.com which is really easy to get to on one of airport express bus. £299 is still a very good price for these flights.

yes, boston, and new york are both very walkable. They both have metro trains and are connected via a highish speed train which goes fr boston all the way to Washington D.C. via new York. so there are plenty to see and do for none car owners. they also have megabus and the like operating intercity busses very cheaply.

Just to clarify the in flight entertainment. Air Tanker will have 2 A330 operating for TC next year. One in Glasgow and one in Manchester. The MAN a/c currently does not have seat back screens, but apparently has the ability to stream entertainment to your personal ipad or tablet. Neither have Premium Economy cabin, which is a shame.

Some of the best seafood (legal Seafoods is one) and steak restaurants, on top of that great shopping and some of the best sales. There's loads to do from Boston. After doing Boston and Salem we did Portland, Maine, then into New Hampshire to Appalachian Mountains where we saw black bears and moose in the wild and had tax free shopping (savings not to be sniffed at, one of only 5 states with no sales tax) then down to Cape Cod for the most amazing whale watching trip. If I wasn't already booked for next year I would definitely have been on this.

For people worrying about no screens on the back of their seats, my solution, and I travel Qatar regularly but don't use their screens, I use a cheap £34 phablet from eBay without a sim card and load it with my requirements for the journey . If I didn't have USB charging I also carry a large capacity power pack that was £25 on an Amazon deal and this suites me. So no digital entertainment doesn't have to be a problem.
I originally bought it as an off line SatNav for my car for which I use " Here " maps for life, free app and regular updates, so please don't add posts that say it will add another £59 to the fare as it has many uses and can be used on many journeys, either in the air or on land in the car or walking etc..

Shocking stupidity, how can it be ignorance to state ones own experience. When I went I got bored, when you end up walking around town just for something to do then a park that's boring, others might love it. I think rap music, Strictly come dancing, X-factor and no end of academy awarded films boring too. I'm a freak of nature but hay ! at least I'm not boring (to me anyway) ;-)

Personal taste is a wonderful thing, I found the history interesting ... but then again, I planned my trip their to involve more than just visiting Boston and doing the Freedom trail (visiting Cape Cod, Plymouth & Philadelphia). A whale watch if you suffer from motion sickness is always likely to be an uncomfortable trip (hopefully you were wise enough to take a few travel sickness pills & check that the sea was fairly calm the day you went ... if not your experience wasn't all down to bad luck!). I'm surprised you didnt see a whale as I've done 3 trips from Massachusetts and seen whales on all 3 (with different companies) and each trip came with a free trip guarantee if you don't spot whales ... the have a 95% + success rate.

Sometimes you are just unlucky on holidays or a place isn't suited to you, but everyone I've ever met that has been to Boston has enjoyed it ... though I have to say, its a waste to go all that way and not visit the surrounding areas such as Rhode Island, Cape Cod & the White Mountains.

PulisOut
8 Nov 16 #128
Don't get me wrong, I said I was bored but I didn't say I hated it. I would recommend the whale watching too, it's not their fault I got sea sick and because th whole boat didn't see anything they gave us a weather check ticket to use next time. We went back to the harbour the next day and gave the tickets to a couple who seemed in two minds.

I think it's very much tuned to the American history geeks in parts and that didn't interest me. We were only there for 4 days and that restricts where you can get too, although we did go on a train to the beach for the day.
cplloyd21

Ha, I must be a geek! Hopefully you at least made the other couples day as Stellwagen can be a wonderful place to whale watch & its a shame the Whales didn't come out to play for you.

It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things, I'm probably slightly defensive on the area as a whole as I've had two amazing holidays there in the last 12 months but can appreciate that it wouldnt be everyones cup of tea (pardon the pun!)

It's ignorance when you make sweeping statement about things you have very little knowledge of. Yes, personal experience but that's not helping anyone if you have very limited interests. Internet will take everything, though  .

"Very limited interests" you are really some new kind of stupid to make such vast assumptions on people you don't know. Last year I took my tent to 16 places in the UK from Scottish Highland to Portland Bill. I've walked up Machu picchu, canoed on the Amazon and slept in it's Jungle. I've biked around Lanzorte, and I've filled my camera with most of Europe's capitols and more inc Ireland. My music is Sinatra to Stones via Billy Joel and Steely Dan plus a bit of classical. As projects I've built Snooker tables, installed engines, pasted walls and ceiling and knocked down walls and renovated them using lime mortar. I've played snooker with professionals including Alex Higgins RIP and dined with footballers who paid the bill. Just two of my careers took me to contribute to the very service you use to abuse me by way of RFCs on all sort of things from email system to firewalls. And I was once considered a good enough at antique restoration to renovate the club room at the Waldolf hotel in London.

Sorry it's it a tad limited but that's just off the top of my head and I've not mentioned my 10,000 magazines or 500 books :-)

Then why are you wasting your time on here? You could be building a wall on the edge of Mexico and be back for bonfire night.

Bladder cancer tends to do that to people. But don't worry it's more then likely I'll be renovating a house is Dorset in March next year.

You should not feel so obliged to justify yourself to random strangers on the internet.

Why do so many hukd threads descend into hate and spite? Way of the world sadly.
