Great windows 10 tablet for the money. Linx 12v64 with keyboard
12.2 " fhd screen
4gb ram
64gb drive
Folio keyboard
Windows 10

Looks very similar to a surface pro. It's part of the Sainsburys black Friday deals but dropped in price today to £200. Bargain for the spec

can confirm this is genuine as picked up one in Slough yesterday.
4GB DDR3 and 1920x1200 screen resolution.

battery life is stated as 7 hours on the box.

I got just over 5 hours of normal WiFi use.

200GB sandisk microSD card also works perfectly.

6 in Cheltenham (Tewkesbury Road) priced at £200 on the shelf half way towards rear of store, model on display still priced @ £220.

Unfortunately the display model was not turned on and battery was flat, so I couldn't comment if the screen was any good.
Jimmyboy
29 Nov 16 #26
Thanks I didnt spot it comes with the keyboard. Seems a great price. I know it's a different product but I bought the Linx 7 a while back which was a pile of junk (in terms of using Windows) and battery life etc.
Andboy
29 Nov 16 #27
Plenty in the Livingston store - marked as a clearance item so likely will scan at this price in any store as it appears to be nationwide. The demo model in-store was also flat and would not power on so couldn't get an idea of screen quality or performance but keyboard cover felt decent to type on.

Obviously this won't be as powerful as a £599 Microsoft Surface Pro 4 ( https://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/Surface-Pro-4/productID.326546100 ), which uses more powerful chips (the slowest having CPU Mark of 3056 http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+m3-6Y30+%40+0.90GHz ). It's an upgrade to the Linx 710/810/1010 line with 12.2" screen and better resolution (1920x1200 vs 1280x800). The Atom x5-Z8300 (1199 CPU Mark https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Atom+x5-Z8300+%40+1.44GHz ) is about 30% faster than their Atom Z3735G (CPU Mark 912 http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Atom+Z3735G+%40+1.33GHz ).

A Microsoft employee makes the point about the comparison in his blog:
"As you can probably tell I’m impressed with this device. You do need to bear in mind the price of course – don’t expect this to be a low-cost version of a Surface."
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/ianm/2016/09/21/linx-12v-incredibly-low-price-for-a-whole-lot-of-2-in-1/

Amazon lists a cut down version of this, the Linx 12V32 (with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage down from 4GB RAM and 64GB storage) for £319:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Linx-12-Inch-Keyboard-Storage-Windows/dp/B01LNHETGY
This has a small number (5) of mixed reviews.

Thank you. I went to my local Sainsbuys, East Prescot Road, Liverpool. They didn't have any on display and the store assistant didn't think they sold the 12" version. Using the SKU he found it on the system and it showed they had one in stock so after a bit of searching in the stock room he bought one out. Strangely he said the price had gone up to £329, but I asked him to scan it and it went through for £200. He said it looks like the price may be going up tomorrow? I guess we'll find out tomorrow for sure, but thank you so much - was in the market for something like this and didn't want to risk a Chinese import. Thank you!

DonkeyKonk
30 Nov 16 #50
Yep, it does help. Still not great but better and just about loud enough to listen to music to in a small room.

Battery does seem to take an age to charge to the earlier query, but then I have been charging whilst playing about with it, and using a 2.1 amp micro USB (not the charger that came with it), so can't say for sure how the battery is.

I found the USB port a bit 'stiff' but seems okay now after a few uses.

I am fifty fifty about the machine so far, it could be really great for the money so I am persevering with it for now, and getting it all updated, etc.
It seems really smooth in itself, navigating between windows, etc, the screen is pretty nice to me, and the keyboard / cover and stand are very good.

It's Intel SST Audio Device (WDM)

Driver Version 604.10135.2747.5232

Driver Date 09/08/2015

Under Driver File details it says

File Version 10.0.14393.0 (rs1_release.160715-1616)

And it's at

C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\drmk.sys

I think. I am not at all techie but hope that helps

I've speeded up my tab slightly by changing Windows settings. I usually make this change in every windows machine I use

1. Right click on start menu
2.click on advanced system settings
3 . click on settings under performance
4. Select "adjust for best performance"

This takes away some visual effects but makes windows run quicker

Cheers, Interested in other tips and tricks for this device as there's not much else out there on it. The earlier tip on sound definitely helped.

EDIT...

i did have what looked ike a serious issue with this and the screen, but after reset, and making sure all my downloads were going to C drive, and not OneDrive as i think i might have set some, all seems ok, so thought it worth letting othersknow. This does seem like a very good deal for £200 now.

DonkeyKonk
1 Dec 16 #75
Actually decided to give it one more try, I had a feeling I had been saving some files to OneDrive rather than the PC itself, as iPlayer wasn't working on downloads, etc, so maybe updates to system / drivers were the same.

With any luck, come Christmas time going, they'll repeat upon such cool price's again?, hopefully .....

The Linx 10 Lite, 16GB has served me well!, but is mad limiting on space (ESPECIALLY as Windows 10 deliberately insists on mandatory 'updates', irrespective of whether you expressly agree to them or NOT?!, most annoying!!!, and as such killed much of any real useful internal space again, I've heard there is a way to turn-off that annoying Windows 10 feature somewhere?, but don't know how to do it?, if anyone is more familiar on that end of things, your input would be most appreciated, thanx). :-)

Yes quite agree Windows isn't good at consumption - more for creation ! I had a Linx 7 and it was hopeless for Windows - much too small - I have a Lenovo Yoga 8 for general use - I think the format is great with the built in stand. Bit long in the tooth now and low res screen but still does the job.

So just had a play with one in Sainsbury's - sound is very poor - seemed to me like about 60% volume not much else happens as you continue to turn up. Also vey tinny and thin sound - would drive me bonkers to listen to this. I didn't think the screen looked very bright either at full brightness. Would I pay £329 - probably not - if I was in the market for a windows multi-use device I would consider at £200 but then reject it for the sound but that's my personal likes/dislikes.

Check your storage / downloads is all going to C drive. I think I pressed something on first setup that meant some stuff was going to OneDrive,.
Been playing with it all day again, after full reset and being careful on startup and it has been completely smooth, and been impressed with it. Will definitely keep it now, but keeping the receipt incase if fault.

I have been using Opera Browser which now automatically cuts out all ads, been very good (tried Chrome earlier that was fine).

The big negatives are the sound and the battery taking so long to charge, but as a useable Windows 10 tablet, I think it is now a good deal.

If any folk are having issues with the battery, it seems to me the charger they give you is junk.
I have left mine on a Quick Charge charger, I did not time it as went out to work, but I did see it was charging noticeably quicker, and also when I turned it on just now it's actually fully charged, and showing 100% when previously but would show 99.
I don't think it is a quick charging device, but definitely north trying with a hihher powered charger than what they gave you.

DonkeyKonk
7 Dec 16 #98
No special tweaks, just did that full reset and made sure I was downloading all files to my C Drive (and not OneDrive) on startup.

I do think the quick charger I have is much better, the one with it is junk.

I have found Chrome, Edge, etc okay, but think Opera is the best with its built in adblock.

Apart from the low volume it is a great machine to use now.

Just to let you know that these are back down to £199 again. My wife picked me one up yesterday in withymoor branch in West Midlands. She had her 15% employee discount off that price too so cracking deal!!

Lovely tablet, very happy with it.... great screen, stand, keyboard, performance is good too.

I don't think this is part of black Friday deals anymore just been reduced. They didn't even know they had these I dont think, there is loads of promotion on the linx 1010 for £99 (which is a good deal for a good tablet itself). This was dropped on the shelf without any price on it. So if you want one of these you will probably need to get the customer service to check stock with the sku - 130615476

First one I had, the tab key wouldn't work, the rear camera had lines running across it and it would gradually discharge when in use even if the charger was connected. After looking through the BIOS I selected 'revert to factory default', saved and exited. The machine would then no longer switch on. Tried the reset button, tried holding the power switch etc, but absolutely nothing. Got it exchanged without any problem (it was going back anyway because of the other faults). The new one is much better. Camera is fine (not brilliant quality), charges up ok, all keys work and it generally feels a much more responsive machine. It's now fully up to date and I'm very happy with it. Just looking for a nice travel case for it now.

I happened to be in Portswood, Southampton branch where these scanned at £279. I asked them to check the Shirley store, but they claimed they did not have a department to sell these (despite 2 showing on the system). Portswood claimed it was likely those 2 were put out as special promotion. Seems a nonsense that stores can't sell at the same promotional price!

Anybody else having problems with their Linx? I'm now on number 4. First wouldn't even switch on after a couple of days. The second developed a fault where it wouldn't work with USB 3 devices (seems it couldn't give enough power). Third had horrendous light bleed and a dead pixel. Just booted the fourth. Some light bleed, but not as bad as number 3. Wireless seems really slow and it has dropped the connection once. Hopefully it's slow due to background updates and will be better soon. I've read of others having wireless problems. Does anybody have a fix for that, or is it a hardware issue? Fortunately Sainsbury's customer service has been excellent.

My tablet was slow for around a day or two while the updates supplied but been okay since then. Not had any wireless issues myself

Thanks for the reply. I shall just be patient until the updates complete. Are you guys out there updating to Windows 1607 without any problem? I'm concerned that that's what bricked my first one. There's a very good Linx forum and people have reported similar with the Linx 1010.

I'm running insider preview and haven't had any issues apart from the cpu high utilisation bug, I have supplied a fix for this earlier in the thread. But I think that is an issue with insider preview
