For those who have bought this TV, can you share your opinion of what it is like for watching normal SD channels?
We do still watch a lot of non-HD stuff and therefore I was going to get a non 4K tv - but there are so many deals of 4K tvs, I keep getting tempted....
My shortlist is LG around 40-43" - as we have 2 older smaller LGs and they have been rock solid for years - just one remote went recently.

After much deliberation (past few months) looking at loads of HUKD deals, reading all the various debates i.e. 8bit panels vs 10 bit panels bla bla bla I finally decided to buy a TV and chose this LG. What swung it for me was I came to the conclusion that I was going to just settle for a quality 1080 LED as their prices are rock bottom. I made this decision based on the argument of the distance from my sofa to the TV - 10ft. Looking at the guides to see what size TV I would need to even appreciate 4k at 10ft would result in purchasing a TV that would measure 75" (£2800+). I started to look at quality 1080 Samsung's and saw this post and figured it was only about £25-50 more expensive than a standard 1080. Leaving the whole 'it's not true 4k' debate out of the question I have to say I'm really impressed with the TV. Picture quality is better than I expected - Colour and contrast is great. 4K on Nvidia Shield looks stunning. Unsure how Steam streamed games will look but again not fussed. Happy that I have a TV in my living room that looks sensible rather than some huge monstrosity stuck to the wall.

Got the 55" yesterday.

Happy with it. Great picture for the money.

Been playing around, can't quite get settings right. Also can't find settings on net for it. Probably because Argos exclusive model.

If you want a reliable good quality standard 1080p TV, your set with 5 years warranty . Apparently has issues with Amazon Video and sound isnt the best.

Few things:
Do you see yourself using 4K in the near future? If not, then not a huge concern.
Do you sit further away from your TV, because a 33" vs a 48" is a bigger difference than you may think. Really you would want the bigger TV to have the higher the resolution i.e. 4k for the 48".
Do you use apps or online services? because this tv doesn't act very well with them apparently.

The thing is that the new 4K TV's are more future proofed in resolution, design (most cases), and software. Plus some decent 4K TVs are around at a lower price.

If you don't care that much about 4k but are interested, this tv is technically 4k and does a good job at upscaling your content to look better in terms of resolution and has very good feedback on picture quality overall and colours.

bottom line; the Sony TV is very good and will do you great for the next year or two, but after that I dunno. Rather you get the longer warranty and you enjoy 1080p for 5+ years (or until u sell) and a bigger screen. Or you get a 4K TV with less warranty but functionally better device and smaller screen. Third option is wait till black Friday

You want more details you would need to ask someone with a bit more knowledge. but i hope i helped .

Don't know what all that technical stuff means, its my other half buying it. Our TV just packed in a couple nights ago. We have a Sony 37 inch at the moment, got it about 7/8 yrs ago and been great til now so just a bit desperate to get something. Bonus with Argos is we can pick it up today! Just dont know. Whats your thoughts on the Sony 48inch £349 Argos tv?
LiamSmith78
5 Nov 16 1 #62
I did a lot of research over the last few days and been completly put off LG now. They use an RGBW display which is not propper 4K. If I were you I would look for Samsung UE40KU6000 or UE40KU6500. Problem is they both have 8-bit panels.

If u want real HDR10 with a 10 bit display, the cheapest i can find is the Sony KD43XD8088BU, but obviously its dearer

Yes, quidco.
Ordered fast track at 10pm thursday night and got an email that cashback had tracked friday morning.
Not collected the tv yet but my father in law is saying LG are not the best. He is 70+ and worked in a tv repair shop for years and says best stay away from LG - better with Sony/Samsung or cant remember the other one.

Thinking of cancelling now as I see I can cancel online. Wonder if the cashback will not clear now or how that works.

4 Nov 16 #56
Hmm, if that's to the outside of the feet.

I'm good, cos my unit is 110cm wide. If it's just the distance in between. It won't fit.

Hmm

4 Nov 16 #55
Quidco also has (or had when I ordered) a 10% cashback offer on tv's over £300.

Anyone have recommended settings for this tv? I've yet to buy a tv that looks good out of the box and even though this is a gift I will inevitably be the one setting it up. Problem is my colour vision is a bit crappy so my perfect settings aren't what others may like, means I generally need to follow a guide

This is the question I'd like answered too, or indeed the 43UH668V from Currys which looks to have better speakers over the 650 and a magic remote but is currently £549 (although was £499 last weekend). I think I saw reviews for the 650 on amazon that spoke of lip syncing issues too.

Id be shocked if 43inch tvs go below £399 and 49s go below £499 on black friday unless they are a terrible make.

This seems to be the bottom price at the minute, I would say all black friday is going to do is reduce a lot of tvs to this price and your just going to have a pick at which one you want.

Personally Im hoping the LG soundbar goes down on black friday, I dont want to pay £199 for it.

I've heard Hisense smart features are a bit clunky (even though the hardware is said to be pretty good).

It's a gift I'm buying and the person I'm buying it for needs a smooth experience on the various apps. Still so tempting though as it is £70 cheaper.

Hello Lee 360

Thank you for your question, the 6401 supports 10 bit colour from source device and is HDR Plus compatible.

Hope this helps.

Compatible means it'll accept the hdr signal - like how a720p TV would accept a 1080p signal (but it won't change the resolution)

Philips 43PUS6401 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD Ambilight Smart TV argos same price and HDR 10 bit panel for me 4k on anything under 55inchs is pointless? i.e. mobile phones with 4k screens thats why all these small 4k old stock tvs are cheap!
The_Hypnotoad to discoman2016
2 Nov 16 #31
It depends on the distance

To notice on a 4k 43in TV you need to be between 2 and 6 foot away from it (1.8meters), on a 50 inch it goes up to 7ft away

Also the phillips TV you mentioned isnt true 10bit (but neither are for £400 and thats before we get into you wont tell the difference argument) and the phillips TV has real problems with input lag on consoles (80ms compared to 20ms on this)

Ive been looking at Tvs for months and I went for this, cant afford more that 4/500 and it ended up being between this and the phillips.
The_Hypnotoad

Seems like this model is an Argos exclusive. Heat added all the same. The 'short' warranty is a worry but I thought that about the panny Plasma that is still going strong ...that I bought 7 years ago from Comet!

I was wondering how good this would be as a computer monitor. The short answer is that it would work well.

I found a review (in Spanish) which checks the features which are important for use as PC monitor: 4:4:4 chroma and input lag. It supports the former in all 60 Hz modes and the latter appears acceptable (if not great).

http://opinioteca.com/tvs/analisis/lg/uh650v/

(heat added!)

Edit another review seems to indicate the input lag is even better than the 40ms stated by the first review
