EDIT:
Both myself and another user have found that the RAM is 12gb not 8gb.
Although showing OOS online, users are still buying this instore without a problem with some people in the comments saying that stock instore is still at old price but you get this price if you ask! Although it seems hit and miss whether you get 2 years or 3 years guarantee.
Just bought from John Lewis in BF sale. Seems like a great deal for a full HD screen and fast(ish) processor)

It is very similar in terms of spec but this one comes with a THREE YEAR John Lewis guarantee which they email to you straight away. The £30 extra over the ASUS makes this worth it, I think.

Great 1st deal. May I suggest you add retailer to title? Not least as JL will get u some heat. Also a copy paste of the full spec will add more heat. Some on here want you to cook the meal for them!

APU's are generally equivalent to i3 performance basically. quad cores will help. but they're relatively new processors, so not a lot of benchmarks out there.

£20 voucher finished last night( i was dawdling on whether to buy and missed out and then it sold out when i dawdled at £299), but imo this is still a very good deal, even better since the asus sold out. Value wise this is better from specs to the retailer, the only thing better about asus was the battery and probably the build quality. Unless there's a fundamental problem with the ideapad line, i think this is one of the best laptop deals and would get more heat if amd processors were better understood, bought one this morning anyway .

Says in the title AMD A12. Just bought this laptop have another A8 processor laptop at home which is reasonably quick and this one had a better central processor and graphics processor. A8 works fine with flight simulator and kerbal space program.
Intel are weaker on the graphics unless you use a discrete card. Suggest SSD makes a bigger difference nowadays than the cpu especially on a laptop with slow hard drives.

The Graphics card is R7, okay... but there is R7 M270, M370, M440 & M445. I cant find out which one this has?
For example the m260 is 620 MHz, 1GB DDR5. The M370 is 900 MHz, 4 GB GDDR5... Big difference!
mvnorwood to krisb1701d
25 Nov 16#34
it's a bit misleading. It doesn't have a 'graphics card' as such. The Radeon R7 graphics are integrated into what AMD call an APU rather than CPU or GPU. Have a bit of a Google and you'll see what I mean. Basically this is somewhere between an i5 and an i7 with Intel HD integrated though it may well handle certain graphics heavy tasks better than an Intel with integrated graphics
rojones1982 to krisb1701d

Its the built in R7 its not any of the standalone cards you mention. Its the R7 Bristol Ridge.

People tend to cherry pick benchmarks. This is a better example. There was a Lenovo i3 6100u for £249.
I better answer that question, since you seem to think it is ok to ask three times if no one answers! No (not least as I am male). If you look at my answer, I did try to answer the question (which I would not have done had anyone else, since I do not know, which is really what you should really have inferred from the lack of answer).

ips panel?
mvnorwood
25 Nov 16#58
No, as it says in the description this is a TN screen with GL
Unlikely, as its HP brand, and HPs are normally HD screens, not FHD... also the res listed is 1366 x 768 which is too low for IPS i believe... but im not 100%!
I have my eye on that one too... the price may drop tomorrow or monday, quoted from the staff at my local Currys... but you never know if you can trust them fully haha!
Snazzy, the cpu is probably worth £200 alone. Full HD, light gaming, a semi-powerful workhorse.
derbylad1983
26 Nov 16#64
I'm waiting for that to drop as well
mvnorwood
26 Nov 16#65
IPS screens are more expensive and better quality for general use however a cheaper TN screen like this has a faster refresh rate which is good for gaming (this laptop would be fine for casual gaming but no good for serious gaming). To be honest what matters most is whether the screen is true HD as this one is.

The fan on this seems to be on all the time, its quite annoying but that might be any decent laptop as I can only compare to my 2014 Celeron Dell that is that low powered it never warms up.
Picked one of these up on Saturday afternoon for a gift. The box does indeed say 12Gb Ram (4Gb soldered and 8Gb in an expansion slot). Good to hear that people using the laptop have confirmed this. I'm surprised JL didn't list this on their website as it would have sold out much quicker.

For a laptop the sound quality is very good, stereo speakers along the front bottom edge. Obviously still a little tinny compared to a proper speaker system but I listened to Pink Floyd (always a good test of any stereo!) on it earlier and was genuinely impressed. Screen is glossy.
