Hi - this is not the Apple upgrade programme you will own the phone after 20 months

I was looking for a good deal to buy an iPhone 7 outright but saw this programme on the Apple site ( the links on the bottom of the first page on mobile - click on the link where it says "You can also choose to make low monthly payments without AppleCare+.")

Works out a good way to buy the phone outright but spreading the cost without any interest.

Looks like it's in store only

Hopefully this helps someone who is looking

Thanks

It's the way of the new ' must have' consumerism world we live in. I must 'upgrade' everything I own every 12 months because the next year's model is slightly shinier, slightly bigger/smaller has 1gb more storage capacity and can switch between app's 0.0000000000001 of a second quicker, oh and i can tell everyone how much better my life is because of all the carp I own! :disappointed:

iPhone Upgrade program. I have it too. If you don't cancel the AppleCare, then after 11 months of payment you can hand in your current model and receive the new one that will come out next year, and carry on paying monthly. In the end it 'feels' like a £38-ish (depending on which model you buy) subscription that gives you 'always the newest model, with AppleCare.

13 Nov 16 1 #2
So you pay £38.00 monthly then after 11 months it comes to £450 you give your phone back and get a new one why not just keep it as it's only £599 anyway

if you're worried about cost vs latest product then you would save money and buy android (be oneplus for £335), if you're really worried about cost then there are very good Chinese android phones on here for £130.

Apple purchasers tend to go for style over function (remember when the 3s announced cut and paste as a new feature replacing the pen and paper method of earlier versions) ignoring the fact that 99% of new functions are software (although I notice some new software functions now being tied unnecessarily to hardware upgrades).

This is how I got my iPhone 7 128gb. £49 up front and 20 * £32.50 interest free (£699 total). It's called iPhone Payments Program,

I buy SIM free now.

- iPhone 6S 64GB £619 new
- Traded iPhone 6S for Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
- Sold Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for £450
- Bought iPhone 7 256GB SIM free and used (mint condition) for £570

So essentially, to have the iPhone 6S 64GB and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for a year. I paid £169.

I went for the payments plan also and not the upgrade plan. Reserve your phone online via the upgrade plan and when you get in store tell them you want it under the payments plan and they deal with it quite easily - to me it's the most cost effective way to get an unlocked iphone totally interest free rather than paying for it as a lump sum.

Good find thanks for sharing. Great for people who like to have a new phone every year. Some will say this encourages the 'must have' consumerism world we live in but each to their own I say.
Personally like to keep up to date with the latest tech and will consider this option as it seems really good especially if you keep the phone you have been paying for after 12 months when you get a new one. No different to the network offering an early upgrade after 12 months where you just pay the network rather than Apple directly.

Shame they don't do this for iPad's or if they do i can't find it :smirk:

I voted hot because of the mechanics of this deal. It would be hard to beat. Thanks for posting op.

But, and I say this as an iPhone user, these things are stupidly expensive. When I can buy an iPhone 7 like I did an IPhone 5s via o2 Refresh for £120 i will consider iphone 7 by then.

Someone said earlier people buy iPhones because of style over function, or something like that. Well for me the way it functions compared to the other smartphones is pretty much precisely why I buy iPhone. The fact that they may be technically and superficially matching its price tag doesn't matter much to me as it's in a protective case.

I wouldn't worry too much. Some people like to make sweeping statements. Maybe anyone who paid £649 for an S7 Edge or £819 for a Pixel is exempt from the same snide assumptions on their character because Android is flexible-er (or something).

I don't get the point of this deal

Your still paying 0% interest when you take a 24 month contract

One of the comments above mentioned £49 upfront then £32.50 a month, surely at that price a contract with minutes, texts and data would be more beneficial? Or am I missing something

Ok I personally don't upgrade every year and don't feel the need to however your exaggerations are a bit OTT.

The new phones memory capacity has doubled so is quite relevant for many users I would assume, the ram has been increased which compared to just two generations ago iPhone 6 is now three times the ram so a large difference. The camera is much better in low light on the new one too so is a worthy upgrade for many people with kids etc as many people only use their phones as cameras instead of proper cameras (I use a Sony a7rii so not applicable to me).

I can see others requirements/desires/choices are valid if they want to upgrade it just doesn't suit me at the moment.

Better than blowing their cash on fags, booze etc

Found one for sale locally, gumtree.

Point is, if you're patient deals can be had. I've seen a few iPhone 7 128GB come up locally for £500. Not many 256GBs tho.
plewis00
13 Nov 16 #33
I did the same through Facebook Marketplace and got the original receipt too - 256GB black on Vodafone new and sealed for £550 cash.

I guess this 'deal' is just alerting people to the iPhone Payments Plan but other than spreading the cost, it's no cheaper than just buying it outright, which is actually what I did with my phone as my S7 Edge broke the day before and by buying in-store I get the VAT receipt as well. I couldn't use the Payments Plan as I declined due to a mistake I made when filling out the application.
ASH12
13 Nov 16 #34
You could also apply for a 0% on purchases credit card and spread the cost of an iPhone that way - you can then buy online if you prefer. Also some cards like Virgin for example offer 30 months (if you can bear to keep the phone that long) to repay. Just get a sim only deal from wherever you like.

I have been to O2 shop and played with this phone. it's a joy to use this phone, very fast and elegant phone.
Close or similar specs of Chinese Android phones (MI5, Oneplus 3, LeEco 2 Max) are around £175-250.

Voted cold because of its price - overly priced. Sorry Apple.

13 Nov 16 #42
what do you mean by 'specs' though? I doubt those £150 phones have the same quality of CPU and GPU, camera etc. You also have to factor in customer service, quality control and other things that aren't free. When a company makes a nice looking phone with off the shelf components and throws them out on Banggood for next to nothing with no after sales support, littered with software bugs and barely any chance of that software being maintained for any period of time then of course they can easily hit tiny margins and sell the phones for pittance. I don't think you can compare the two. I can afford to buy a decent phone so I don't mind paying £300-£400 more for a phone from Samsung or Apple as I get more peace of mind from it and the phones are undoubtedly better quality with few compromises. I understand some people love these cheapo Chinese phones, and if you like to chop and change phones every week then it is a more cheaper way of doing it. It's not for me though, and they aren't after the same market - just as Gucci isn't in the same market as Primark.

Phones like the One plus 3 offer decent specs and software for the money but they are still much more than the likes of Ulefone, Elephone, DooGee etc and still lack in the camera department when compared with Apple and Samsung. They also spend very little on marketing and after-sales, don't make any of their own technology and so they can afford to cut the margins. I've had a Oneplus One and a Oneplus Two and they were decent, but I would still rather have an iPhone 7 or an S7 and can afford to do so. We earn money to enjoy it so if the phone we want costs £300 more (and we can afford it) then screw it, splash out.
