i kept the nest, did loads of reading then returned the hive, iv got tp-link sockets and there bringing bulbs out soon without the need for a hub, also got it all working with alexa on a dot 2, id say the hive looks ok tho as its all within one app, but nest is better.

Does anyone know if these will work with a gravity fed hot water system. Basically my current system (oil fired too) is such that you can have hot water only (the current timer basically just turns the boiler on, the boiler fires up to its preset temperature, then cycles every 20-40 minutes, not efficient I know), or you can have heating and hot water, but not heat only
My heating controls basically turn the hot water on, or the hot water AND heating on at preset times. A wireless thermostat then just turns the pump on or off (subject to the heating control switch being on).
Basically I have no control over the hot water, if the boiler is on then the water is getting heated. If the heating is set to on, then the circulating pump fires if the thermostat tells it to.
So would Hive let me , A) turn the hot water on (which simply means turning the boiler on) and B) turn the circulating pump on at the right temperature?

Yes it will. In the instructions it tells you how to change to a gravity system.

I installed mine yesterday, super easy and works great. I would have been a little embarrassed if a British Gas engineer came round to fit it; it literally took 5 minutes to install.

Was it the "Heating only" and did it come with the hub?

Brilliant bit of kit.
No point getting the heat only version if they're the same price, we have the dual and recently switched from a tank to a combi - it works fine without the water wires connected and will probably be worth more if you ever sell it.
I installed mine myself, and we had a very antiquated system with a back boiler in a y plan system. Took half an hour, and I'm no heating expert!

Hi, not sure if you asking me but i just ordered the hive frome prime now and its sat infront of me, only to find out that nest also does alexa and belkin sockets, however the hive seems to integrate all the extras within the same app, im now sat clueless as to witch to keep.

Tado, nest, hive, netamo, evohome, they are all smart thermostats with varying functions and it would appear some people love some and others love others so it's a bit like android, iPhone, windows debate!
The hot water is for is for a system boiler so if you have a combi only get a single channel hive. The hot water option gives you a hot water mode on the hive app but it wouldn't be linked in so be pointless. Most combis preheats are turnt on and off by the sensor on the hot water heat exchanger so the hot water option would have no use on a combi or I would of thought at least 98% of them!

We have a combi boiler with a hot water pre heat feature so you can use this to do that job.

yes but i suppose if there the same price i might aswell get the hot water one , and that one shows the hub with it, and im buying sockets and amazon echo dots and they need a hub apparently, just wish i bought the hive a few months ago instead of the nest. cheers.

Hi, do they both include the hub, as one shows it and the other doesnt, i have a combi but should i just buy the heating/hot water one, as it shows all 3 units. thanks,

I have read into this ad I have recently ordered hive, with a combi boiler you only need the heating unit. The unit with hot water is for houses that have a hot water tank. Hope this helps
