I haven't played the first two parts properly as my ps3 developed the ylod, do those parts need to be played for any storyline continuation purpose?

Not really. You could google the basic storyline - it's all about Kratos wanting revenge for the death of his family and thus slashing his way up the God food-chain, essentially. The first two games are superb and I'd recommend them as it's all part of his journey, but if you really can't play them then no reason not to dive into three.
