Been searching Amazon for ages for a 6GB GTX 1060 as I have a few vouchers to spend, and today this has had a decent price reduction!

The core clock works at up to 1797MHz boost to ensure data is processed rapidly, and a massive 6GB of GDDR5 RAM ensures it can handle a wide range of monitors and VR devices.
When you want to exert control over this graphics card, use the Intuitive XTREME engine utility to get real-time data and to adjust your graphics card settings, including clock speeds, voltages and fan speeds, so that you can create the perfect overclocked system. A variety of NVIDIA technologies, including G-Sync, GameWorks and Ansel, ensure this Gigabyte GeForce 1060 graphics card function smoothly and delivers the best experience possible.

Why would you not want that? The best backplates are metal, connected to the back of the card via thermal pads and so help with cooling. The ultimate goal is to draw heat away from the core and the power circuitry. Any heat drawn to the backplate helps with that, and will be dissipated by your case airflow.

Good price for this card. If you aren't bothered about twin fans and backplates you can get the Gigabyte GTX 1060 mini itx 6GB OC for Just £219.95 delivered from Laptops Direct with the 'Which' £20 off one pound trial code, it's small, very quiet and does everything this card does for less.

I can't recommend Gigabyte graphics cards (RMA twice a GFX 560Ti a few years ago), but as far as GFX 1060 are concerned this is a good price.

On stock voltage it clocks to 1070mhz, but if I do a 7% increase the clock will be stable at 1140mhz which gets similar bench marks to a 970 :smirk:. Only reason I would ever upgrade to a 1060 or 1070 is so GTA 5 will be stable, as that is the only game where even on stock clocks, the game starts stuttering like crazy....

Thanks for the replies, thing is just got a R9 380 4GB about 7 months ago and can't really justify an upgrade to the 1060 given that my card overclocks great (980mhz - 1150mhz), so a 1060 on a average is a 20-30% performance increase. Might just have to wait till the 1070s come a bit down to justify a decent upgrade

I also have an R9 380 4GB. Is that clock speed at the stock voltage or have you increased it?

Both these cards are going to be fine for 1080p or even 1440p gaming on todays games. The question is, in 2 years when many of the games are using the newer technologies, which card will have the edge? From personal experience AMD cards are more future proof.

What you lot think of this compared to the XFX Fury going for £270??

Looking at benchmarks comparing the 2... I think the 1060 6GB is the better buy, for 1080p.

Get a Fury, I run the Sapphire version. Will chew through anything I throw at it at 1440p on ultra - Forza 3, Battlefield 1, Squad. That way you know you can move up from 1080p comfortably in time and even crossfire them for 4K in future.
I'd suggest the £40 is worth it.

If you are stuck with spending exactly 270 quid, then you are at an unlucky price point.
Save the 40 quid, buy the 1060 6gb and put a light overclock on it. You'll surpass the Fury for cheaper.
Or, if you want to spend more, get a 1070, which destroys everything AMD is offering.

Would you mind explaining why that is, exactly?
At stock clocks, an 8GB 480 is only faster than a 6GB 1060 in one DX12 game: Hitman. In some other DX12 games, the 480 can be far behind in frames per second - sometimes as much as 25%. Given that the 1060 overclocks better, is cooler, consumes far less power, and has broader compatibility (less likely to be CPU-bottlenecked, and can be used properly with SteamOS and Linux), it seems like one would be giving up a lot to get that Hitman performance boost!

I didn't think of it being used as a heatpipe admittedly.
Put it like this, using a custom fan curve (an aggressive one) the card is currently at 54 degrees C at full load with a hefty overclock. The backplate matterial doesn't look to be a major issue.
Reviews have shown this card to run a bit hotter. than the msi gaming X for example, so the plastic backplate might be playing a role in that, but then you save around £70 compared to gaming X and the likes.

Copper would be great. Aluminium wouldn't be too bad. Plastic though? You want the heat to escape.

The backplate is not metal. Not sure if it's plastic or some sort of other plastic-like material. Why would you want a heat-conductive material like metal for the backplate anyway?
It's got a nice mate black finish on it and I don't plan on stroking/caressing it too often so the backplate material is not a deal breaker for me :stuck_out_tongue:

D'oh! Got this delivered from Amazon today for £245.99. Heat added.
The price has been fluctuating quite often but this is the lowest it has been so far from any vendor.
I'm in the process of overclocking it as I type this (Heaven running on + 169 core +400 men and still going). It overclocks like a champ!

I added "for 1080p" at the end there because for higher resolutions the Fury usually outperforms it. I guess with DX12 it depends who sponsors the game. AMD DX11 performance is poor compared to NVIDIA's, so that's why you see such an improvement.

Hmm your defiently right for DX11 especially that Im using a 1080p monitor, but ive hear that in DX12 this card will perform at a 1070 level once the drivers mature?

I wouldn't say 3-9% stock performance is worth it.
Especially because the 1060 easily overclocks past the Fury.
