I have this tv and an expensive Sony from John Lewis 18 months ago and I can't tell the difference in picture quality . So I will never spend that sort of money on a TV again.

i just bought the 49inch version (not smart) a couple of weeks ago. going to return it tomorrow. its slow to respond. remote control works as and when it wants to. sound was very tinny untill we found a " surround sound" button in the sound menu, which isnt actually surround sound but it did make it better. a bit more meaty for the lack of a better description. the final straw is that when we are watching netflix weather its through our roku box or our you view box, the sound cuts out when people arent talking. (Hard to understand i know)
Whilst watching american horror story we noticed that if people stopped talking it was as thought the tv speaker turned off or muted untill the next person spoke, even if there was background noise of birds or cars on the road, the sound would just stop. its that bad that sometimes it doesnt always start again until after the first syllable of the first word spoken by the next person in the conversation. Which is really really annoying if they have a shorts reponse in the conversation because then you completly miss what they say in reponse.
SORRY for the long winded comment but think its worth you keep your receipts and possibly the tv boxes for the return trip to tesco. if this happens to you too. and before people ask....No, its is definitely the tv thats the problem. and yes we checked the batterys in the remote controll lol.
on the plus side the picture was to my satisfaction. :/

All the files in each of the folders are the same type (mkv) but I'm not sure I understand what you mean by selecting to display all file types -simply because I have scoured the settings and haven't seen that anywhere. But even folder - with no file type or extension - do not display in order, see below.
As a 'workaround(!!!)', I have resorted to playing everything through a Kodi box anyway.

They do appear to be sorted in file type (if you select to display all file types), then within each type (eg. mpg, mp3 etc) they are alphabetically.

I don't suppose anybody is watching this thread anymore but on the off chance somebody is who bought one of these, can anybody tell me if they use it to watch videos on a USB stick, do the files appear in alphabetical order?
On mine, they appear in some random order so if I am watching a series, for example, they also play in a random order.
I contacted the manufacturers and they insist that the files are in alphabetical order but even after resetting it to factory settings, they are random on mine.
Anybody got any advice or different experience?

Mine arrived today, gave it a quick check and seems ok. It's a £250 tv and seems ideal for the kids. Not anything like my year old LG but not far away from my 7 year old Sony. Sound doesn't seem too bad it says it's JBL ?? For people asking about inputs, it has Scart and AV in (R/Y/W).

By the way, I ought to point out to anybody downloading the manual linked in my last post that I think that the image on the front is a generic TV, not the one the manual is for, as will be evident if you read on - but I discarded a couple of downloads after I saw the cover thinking that it was the wrong one.

If that is the label on the box and the Model No is correct (not Model Ref), then this is the user manual:
In it, it says that this model has a SCART socket but the Tesco description denies this.
Is this the correct model?
Sorry, like a big kid, I have a habit of finding pdfs of manuals before stuff arrives.

24 Nov 161#92
You mean all those TVs set to Torch Mode™? I would never judge the quality of a TV on display. I've seen far too many staff walk up to TVs in-store and torch them because they don't look "good enough" compared to other torched models.
Whilst I agree that some budget TVs can be a bargain inasmuch as they have the same panels as brand TVs (the opposite can happen too, you can pick up a brand TV to find out it has a budget panel), judging TVs on display is no way to ascertain it's quality.

That's to be expected from a thin and cheap tv, even more expensive models from the big brands are only marginally better.
Can you tell us though, if it has any nasty flaws, like menus or EPG that are so slow that end up being unusable, or tearing in fast moving images (sports, action films) etc?

I'm with sonicfury on this, I can't see a width in the specifications on the Tesco website. I see Height and Weight but no width.
AdamBrunt
21 Nov 16#71
But for many people these days, IMHO, these issues/compromises aren't that important. Who actually watches the Freeview these days ?
In my case and, I suspect, for a lot of people - I just care about the quality of the picture as the TV is just plugged into a Sky / VM box and, possibly, a media player/stick which are already connected to an external sound source. In which case the speed of the menus, interface, lag, etc are non-issues. If the displays are pretty much the same then I will go for the one that is far cheaper.
Anyone know how easy (if it's even possible) it is to add other apps on to the TV ?

No. I have a Blaupunkt TV hanging on my wall and it's terrible. It's cheaply made, a low quality LED panel and that's just the beginning. The OS is laggy and clunky, the picture quality is terrible and the sound even worse. Yes this is cheap. But it is total rubbish. I speak from experience, you have been warned.
SFconvert
20 Nov 162#61
I have a couple of LG tvs and a cheapo Bush one and a quite old Matsui one. Whilst the picture quality is generally acceptable on all of them, the newer LG I have is still the best picture. But it's not just the picture that sets out the difference between cheap and "premium" brands, it's more intangible things things like the menu and tv guide ease of use / lag. Also the cheap Bush one I have takes about 30 seconds to power on! I find you just make a few compromises with the cheaper ones. If you can live with them then fine, but many people will still prefer to pay a little extra for more quality. It isn't always a lot more, when you consider you'll probably own it for 5-10 years.
leemarcushealey
20 Nov 16#60
no honestly....i know what ur getting at but trust me the sound would just cut out weather the surround sound function was on or off it still did it.
i didnt notice it at first and though my other half was going crazy but when i did notice it, its all i could hear and focus on.
futura
20 Nov 16#59
Word of advice to others, yes the picture quality is fine with this TV for general TV viewing but invest in a soundbar as the sound quality is pretty awful
pinnocchio
20 Nov 16#58
That's because if you've turned it onto Surround the speech comes from the center speaker (probably the inbuilt speaker), while the other sounds are likely coming from the Left/Right and Rear speakers.....as you don't have 5 speakers attached you aren't hearing those sounds. See if there's an option to attach other speakers to the back panel and try just one to check I'm right.
If this is the same model you have to plug surround into an external Amp.
They are acceptable for the price Adam, I totally agree, but it's simply not the case that the picture is as good as premium TVs. I was probably a bit harsh using the word 'terrible'.

I have this tv and an expensive Sony from John Lewis 18 months ago and I can't tell the difference in picture quality . So I will never spend that sort of money on a TV again.

For the price of this, just buy a cheap saw and cut 11 inches off. :stuck_out_tongue:

As a 'workaround(!!!)', I have resorted to playing everything through a Kodi box anyway.
On mine, they appear in some random order so if I am watching a series, for example, they also play in a random order.
I contacted the manufacturers and they insist that the files are in alphabetical order but even after resetting it to factory settings, they are random on mine.
Anybody got any advice or different experience?
Set it up tonight, sound quality not fantastic but for under £150 a great buy
Thanks
If that is the label on the box and the Model No is correct (not Model Ref), then this is the user manual:
http://www.umc-uk.co.uk/instruction-manuals/Blaupunkt-brand/43%20Models/User%20Guide%20-%20Blaupunkt%20-%2043-134M-GB-11B-FEGUX-UK%20-%20BLA-MAN-0339%20vWEB.pdf
In it, it says that this model has a SCART socket but the Tesco description denies this.
Is this the correct model?
Sorry, like a big kid, I have a habit of finding pdfs of manuals before stuff arrives.
It seems like a good TV (German made). It was £249, deal price £100 off but not 1/2 price.
Voted hot.
Out of stock.
Edit: It's out of stock online lol. I guess that's my fault being too cautious to pull the trigger. Oh well, there's always the Boxing Day & January sales!
I really think it depends on what you want and what you are used to. Will report back once I've hung it tomorrow.
Is it really that bad?!
Anyway, here are the dimensions and details from the box in case you need it.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW LOOKING TO BUY FOR MY GRANDAD and he wants to watch his video player

(ive talen loads of this make back) You have been warned.
someone translate please?
Whilst I agree that some budget TVs can be a bargain inasmuch as they have the same panels as brand TVs (the opposite can happen too, you can pick up a brand TV to find out it has a budget panel), judging TVs on display is no way to ascertain it's quality.
saying that most people don't have the know how or idea how to calibrate a tv and leave it shop floor settings which is set up for the space and lighting of stores which most british homes don't have the space to mimic conditions
Can you tell us though, if it has any nasty flaws, like menus or EPG that are so slow that end up being unusable, or tearing in fast moving images (sports, action films) etc?
In my case and, I suspect, for a lot of people - I just care about the quality of the picture as the TV is just plugged into a Sky / VM box and, possibly, a media player/stick which are already connected to an external sound source. In which case the speed of the menus, interface, lag, etc are non-issues. If the displays are pretty much the same then I will go for the one that is far cheaper.
Anyone know how easy (if it's even possible) it is to add other apps on to the TV ?
It took <5s to find out and three of those seconds were used editing the URL to bypass my adblocker.
I saw the same question asked on the other Tesco television thread. Is this really a forum for baby birds?
Most cheap tv screens are average this one is excellent. Do you have this tv? If not, how can you judge ?
This tv is every bit as good as my Sony and every single person who I've shown it to agrees. So I'll let them all know they need an eye test shall I ??
i didnt notice it at first and though my other half was going crazy but when i did notice it, its all i could hear and focus on.
If this is the same model you have to plug surround into an external Amp.

For the record, I think Sony TV's are a bit of a rip-off, I'm an LG man myself, but these supermarket TV's have a terrible picture.
I will be buying cheap TV's from now on as there is clearly no difference. A snob and his money are soon parted.
heatadded. great price!
I might just get this if there are no better deals on TVs this size. Is this good for PS4 gaming?
