Actually, its from the portugese vinha d'alhos.
Vinha=wine. d'alhos = garlic.

Usual supermarket unauthentic rubbish . Vindaloo is translated into English as vind = wine vinegar and Aloo = potato and I challenge anyone to find the potato in this Iceland offering so strictly speaking this is not a proper vindaloo
