The governments has divided the country into 2 parts.
Part 1 - London & the Home counties (where most of the money is spent) an north of Watford Gap (Part 2) where most of the money is made to pay for part one.

Not sure where my original comment went so reposting...
There's nothing from Birmingham because airlines operate a hub and spoke model and Birmingham isn't a hub for Ryanair. Birmingham is a hub for Flybe (in the same way Stansted is for Ryanair and Luton is for Easyjet).
There are no special flybe offers at the moment (the one I thought worked previously was for 2015) - but it's worth keeping an eye out (or take a look anyway, you can find some pretty cheap flights leaving/returning midweek): http://www.flybe.com

Extending the runway did not help.
Does anyone know why the airfares from BHX are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more expensive to most other U.K. airports please?

way more expensive? Every year it's cheaper (yes still expensive and more so than the rest of the country) for my family to drive to Birmingham, stay in a hotel, pay for parking, and still save a lot of money compared to EMA flights at our local
