I have been with Autoaid for years. In previous years you had to pay the repair chap direct and reclaim, this is no longer the case, Autoaid pay and no reclaim needed (I rang and asked that question when I used them 3 months ago, as the recovery man did not need me to pay).

You can make up an email address (doesn't have to be real) to signup, long as you note it down to be able to login and get your groupon voucher. Then can continually use NEW25 for 25% off
Also £6 for referral, so if using more than once, go to your account and referral, then send by email, don't send email just copy link, clear cookies, paste in link and repeat the 25% off above
If can't be bothered, CELEBRATE codes currently gives 20% off
11% Quidco for Groupon, but does say can't use with promo codes, but worth a try
If not going to use Autoaids free cover for spouse offer, might be better with 2Gether Breakdown Cover for £24 on Groupon (minus 25% off), although not used them and can't find any reviews

Most people are just mentioning about being towed to a garage which I get. But does the policy also cover roadside breakdowns or fixes at the garage. Still unsure at that point.

From the AutoAid website:
The one time that I have had to use it, the breakdown company came, looked at my car, tried to drive it, said it was likely the EGR valve that needed attention and asked where I wanted recovering to. As I was planning to fix it myself, I asked to be taken home- which they did.

Used them last week. Asked the helpful operator lady if I needed to pay the person coming out and she said "no, we'll sort that out, you have nothing to pay".
Excellent service, called me up afterwards just to see if everything was ok, make sure the person had come to tow me home.
Happily recommend them.

15 Nov 16#58
Where do you think the money spent on you comes from?
jonni2bad
15 Nov 16#57
No, it's like having a top-of-the-range breakdown policy, covering breakdown, relay, at home, overnight accommodation, theft and vandalism etc etc. The difference is that this is an insurance policy and not a standard cover - so the terms and conditions will state that this company will arrange these things for you, you pay, and THEN reclaim the cost from them (so it's effectively then free).
In reality, there are ways around having to pay anything up front, and even without trying there's sometimes no need.
You also get cover for a spouse / civil partner and the cover is PERSONAL, so it's you, in any vehicle - not just the car you might own etc. Also covers motorbikes, trailers and caravans.
So is this just towing to a local garage that's free and you can get your money back through auto aid? Or is it any road side fixes? Would they cover for keys being left in the car?

15 Nov 16#55
It's only around £42 normally?!
Anyway, AutoAid are good. Broke down outside Swindon and towed to Reading with no hassle. Their IT system was 'having issues' which meant I didn't need to pay/reclaim and AutoAid paid the recovery company directly

15 Nov 161#54
Yes that's logical isn't it, break your arm in the States and pay £10,000 or take insurance like a normal person and be covered, or die and make your relatives pay £30,000 on your behalf

Nice one OP - great price anyway but with NEW25 that's a steal...
Great company and no need to pay anything at the point of use - just tell the operator you don't have any form of payment on you if you break down, they will only send a company out who are prepared to invoice you. In reality, that company will likely just bill AutoAid anyway, so you'll not even need to submit a claim form.
If you do need to claim, they pay out very quickly.

Used once so far, got a flat tyre but could it get the wheel off the car had seized on. Bloke got to me within 30 mins and smacked the thing off. I was going to put then spare on but he insisted. Didn't get charged for his time either. I assume you get charged if they have to tow you. Great service

building insurance isn't a legal thing. though it may be compulsory with your mortgage, and IMHO its worth it (not contents)
on the car cover. I think it depends purely on the car. i totally agree with you on a newer car. waste of money. but on an older car (my newest car is 16years old and 160k miles. I think its definitely worth the 'piece of mind' definintely would take the 150£ risk on a newer car though.
i'm just glad they don't ask you how old your car is, or how many miles. this way all the people you describe are keeping my breakdown cover price down :stuck_out_tongue:

Other breakdown companies will cover you. You just pay them on the spot. Circa £150 for a call out for the big names. Obviously local ones will be cheaper. This is just another form of insurance that people like you are happy to pay for without realising they are being ripped off. I have a rule, only ever pay for a product or a service (nothing speculative), except car/buildings insurance as that's legally required. Keep paying if you like the peace of mind of course
