Google Chromecast 2, from the Currys ebay shop, listed as used. Excellent price!
“A product is listed as "Used" when the box has been opened, and/or the outer box has minor signs of age or wear - so strictly speaking can no longer be called "New". Each and every product is visually inspected to check the product is in great condition and all accessories are included*. Open box, “Used” items may be aged, surplus warehouse stock, or an unwanted product returned by customers who have opened them and found them not to their liking. Most items will be like new, or may only possess minor signs of handling or use, with insignificant cosmetic blemishes at most. If the product has missing accessories/parts or has particularly heavy damage to the box, this will be stated in the product listing. *please understand our customer service team are unable to describe the precise condition of each item we sell as our stock is warehoused and they do not have access to these.”

I have both. To be honest I cant tell the difference but I think the newer one is supposed to have a faster processor. I wouldnt say it is worth upgrading, just buy it if you want one in another room.

Got this today, definitely appears to be used rather than just an open box, which is abit annoying. Would have prob waited for a new one for this price if I'd have known it was actually used.

Pretty much changed the way we watch TV. Occasionally find some things don't cast (Sky Go, some All 4 content) but usually due to licensing issues. For everything else it's like using your phone/tablet/laptop as a fancy remote.
Browse for content on your portable device then press the cast button. There's apps so you can cast your photos and videos. It's great.
Had the first generation but upgraded to this recently. Can't say I notice that much difference, but does seem to hold the connection better. Might just be my perception but at this price it's definitely worth going for.

Don't know too much about this but can I stream my laptop screen onto my TV from this? Not for movies or anything, just general browsing.
Rather than being behind the times, this is intentional by Sky.

With the new iOS you don't even need the app, you can just cast most things directly from the apps.

Could Sky Sports be cast to the TV using this? (Via sky go app)

Sadly not, Sky are useless/behind the times on this front. I quite happily cast BT Sport but if I want to watch something on SkyGo I have to HDMI my laptop to the TV.

Depends what kind of smart TV you have. You might be able to cast YouTube videos to it from the YouTube app on your phone. As for other video files try using localcast or a similar app and see if that works. You might not need a chromecast

I am sure that somewhere that this model has been superseded.

You're probably talking about the chromecast ultra. Not sure if that's available yet. And it'll be more expensive than this anyway

Yes, just download the "Localcast" app, connect to your chromecast from it, then browse to the video file you want to play. It works a treat.

Well you have to download and install the official chromecast app to your phone to actually set up and activate the device itself. Once that's done, when you load up Youtube you can then connect to the Chromecast and stream the content from Youtube to your television.
