Are you having trouble falling asleep? Are your kids hyperactive when playing with the tablet before bed time?
Are you using your smart phone or tablet in the late evening? Twilight may be a solution for you!
Recent research suggests that exposure to blue light before sleep may distort your natural (circadian) rhythm and cause inability to fall asleep.
The cause is the photoreceptor in your eyes, called Melanopsin. This receptor is sensitive to a narrow band of blue light in the 460-480nm range which may suppress Melatonin production - a hormone responsible for your healthy sleep-wake cycles.
In experimental scientific studies it has been shown an average person reading on a tablet or smart phone for a couple of hours before bed time may find their sleep delayed by about an hour.
The Twilight app makes your device screen adapt to the time of the day. It filters the blue spectrum on your phone or tablet after sunset and protects your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter. The filter intensity is smoothly adjusted to the sun cycle based on your local sunset and sunrise times.
PRO features
- more than 2 predefined profiles
- adjustable transition time
- option to turn off Twilight service altogether during inactive times
- new features will often first appear as PRO
Thank you very much for your intention to support our development. This is a pro application for the Twilight app. Please install on top, do not uninstall Twilight first.

it's a sad world when we have to consider using apps like this to ensure our kids get a good night's sleep. I'm in support of this kind of thing and I'm voting hot....but I remember reading my kids bedtime stories instead of allowing themselves to become fixated on a 10" screen :disappointed:

I agree, chill out, relax and get them to read to ready them for sleep, but I think if they or I use something like this on the tablet or pc before bedtime it will probably help, I use f.lux on the pc and I don't use the pc at night without it on.

Our little one (just turned two) loves his books and happily e.g. turns pages and will start singing nursery rhymes according to what's on that page.
Too many parents these days just stick YouTube on a phone or tablet in front of their kids and wonder why they get the "zombie stare".. :smirk:

It is built into iOS but something like f.lux for Android requires rooting to install, so this might be a decent alternative for not much money.

MIUI on my Redmi note 2 had it, so does the custom Cyanogenmod for it, so i just assumed it was widespread in Android.

It's an official feature in android 7.1, i.e. the just released version. Everything before that will only have it as an unofficial feature through modded ROMs or apps like this.
Though as someone above said, this counts as an overlay and therefore causes permissions problems. If I have to grant an app a permission then I will get a message along the lines of "overlay detected, please turn off overlay to continue". It's so that you can't be using a banking app while some other app tries to steal your details by getting you to tap the wrong thing. Still irritating.

I purchased this in the previous deal and I was pessimistic about the use of this app. but to my surprise, it was really good. I use it when reading at night, it really helps to reduce the light making it more pleasant to see/read when it's dark. highly recommended!

Does anyone know of any apps that actually lower the screen brightness, not just put a filter over it to darken it? I'm looking to save a bit of battery life.
I had an Xposed module called "minimum brightness' on my Note 3 but when I moved up to the Note 4 and marshmallow, it was nowhere to be seen.

I've been using the free app Screen Filter for a few years now. It does put a dark overlay on rather than dim the screen. The only app I've had a problem with while using it is Natwest banking app.

There's some misinformation on this thread, as Twilight is not just a red overlay. You can alter the 'redness' and the brightness independently, so if you like you can have zero 'redness' and just reduce the brightness. This app can therefore do what you want
[Edit]: Forgot to add, the screen can also be dimmed on the free version (which is the one I have), so no need to buy this if that's all you want it for (even if it is only 10p).

Just turn the stupid thing off and go to sleep
Very few of your "friends" on your "social" media accounts actually care about you and your life, those that do know you in person and will still care (probably a lot more) without the "social" media. The news is just lies, social engineering and mind control. Games on phones are rubbish and mostly also designed for social engineering for marketing purposes. Phones are too small for reading books and the screen isn't suitable, read a proper book or at least something on eink.
The majority of things that people are doing on phones serve the purpose of harvesting data, exposing you to advertising and trying to sell you things in other ways either directly or indirectly. Why would you willingly lose sleep and affect your eyesight over some company's profits? Or even encourage/allow your children to do so?
If you can't switch it off or ignore it then you need help for an addiction, not another app.
