These thermometers can be used. The temperature changes markedly at the source of draughts. It's enlightening to see the difference at the bottom of doors for instance.

No, you need a FLIR thermometer for that, these will only tell you the temperature on the exact spot the laser hits. Unfortunately the FLIR kits even to rent cost a fortune.
