The Hudl 2 is the better model

My boy has thrown his downstairs, bashed it on tables, spilt drink on it and God knows what else and it still works well worth £40

Our Hudl 1 is still going strong, never had any problems. Used daily for stuff like iPlayer and other catchup TV, as well as web browsing etc.
One of it's good points is that it has HDMI out, so we use it for watching videos on a bigger screen when we're away in the motorhome. I don't think any of the versions of Fire have that.
This is a bargain, if it was a Hudl2 I'd snap it up.

The Hudl2 was ahead of its time, for the money , with better specs 2MB Ram, Cameras , HDMI than some new tabs offered today, even from China. .
The only trouble I found was the charging port was not fixed securely and had wriggle room . No doubt you would charge it every day and eventually the charging port would not work . You can buy a replacement port for around a £1 if you are in to fiddling or the whole charging board for around £10 .

If anyone sees a link for a cheap Hudl2 please post as it would make an ideal pressy for someone I know at Xmas.

my son's hudl still going strong for games and videos. hdmi a massive plus. it doesn't work too well on miracasting to the tv but for £40? it has a better screen than most Chinese ones. certainly in this price range

Hudl2 is a great tablet just wish the battery life could be improved
3 and a half hours use from a full charge is a bit disappointing.

I've got the hudl 2 and it's excellent. Still going strong after 4 years. For 40 quid you can't go wrong and perfect for kids xmas

Get a new battery, they are only £10 and take a 10 minutes to change.

had the hudl 2. great concept let down badly my the battery. had mine for just over 19 months before it died. was only offered a small cash sum as it was beyond economical repair. if anyone can recommend another unit .....

I used to have one of these, my daughter loved it, we bought it as a replacement to a portable DVD player . The battery when it was new was very impressive when watching films and TV.

We upgraded because of the lag on chrome browser and reduced battery. Apart from that it was sturdy and very good tablet for the money. If you aren't gonna be browsing the internet, just playing games it's fine.

much better to get Acer Iconia One 7 B1 tablet, 7 inch screen and brand new for £49.

Hudl was very muddle and very cold for me.

My version 2 has started to fail (mint condition), the battery has gone - randomly works and the screen gets random lines and shapes. Guess can't complain for that I paid at the time

Always found ours very laggy, hardly gets used now. Battery not good either.
Think I'm going to wipe it and just set it up for the kids.

I had one a couple of years ago and it was pretty poor then, very laggy.
Would only recommend as a media player as video was okay and decent sound (at the time).
But really best putting £40 towards a decent tablet.

There are lot of good tablets available on market for cheaper price.

Not a bad deal for kids. My boy has one. Not the fastest tablet, but certainly fast enough for most games, videos, etc.. And rugged enough to leave kids alone with it. The battery lasts plenty long enough for "tablet time".

If it's for yourself, go for a HUDL 2 which can be had for £70 second hand - still the best value tablet around, even at retail price (£129). Tesco have also released a Lollipop update for the HUDL 2 (though note: once you upgrade - no root!).

What is the ram size

Yes they are old, yes they have been available cheaper and they no longer have any support, however I challenge you to find a better spec'd tablet for the money! There are 8 of them in our house (I've had 1 Hudl & a Hudl 2 stuck in a boot loop which I haven't been able to recover from so far, 1 Hudl had a weak battery, the only other issues have been "end user" - broken screens, broken USB ports...)

The operaing system is very dated & open to hackers

We have a Hudl 1 and Hudl 2, both still going strong. Great for kids.

I've got the hudl 2 which is meant to be a significant upgrade on the first hudl, had lots of issues, found it very laggy, reset it at least 5 times, use it more as an e reader than anything else these days. I wouldn't buy another hudl 2, I certainly wouldn't buy the 1st gen model.

I know that this tablet has an old Android version and it specs aren't that great but for a kid all they going to do is play a few games on it and then throw it or break it and for £39 you can't complain.

c.£40 for a 1gb ram refurbished tablet. I'd probably just go for a new fire tablet at a little more or ideally save for a while to get a 1.5/2gb tablet that you will enjoy more.

Hudl1?! A bit old in the tooth..... Hudl2s have been this price, and even they're no longer supported.
