If this is anything like as good as the lower specced Dolamee D5 then with the additional RAM it should be a cracker as the video quality on the RK3229 is superb and better than any of the current AMLogic boxes. The additional 2 USB ports should also come in handy for expansion options. No dual band WiFi or Gigabit LAN though.

Not in the least and I have the Dolamee D5 with just 1Gb RAM and Kodi performs perfectly well, with navigation as easy as you would want it.
The only slowish operation in Kodi is when creating thumbnails for content.
This is more due to lack of RAM and possibly the speed of the EMMC.
The SOC itself is not slow though.

Wouldn't say it is a slow chip compared to the amlogic offerings although RK chipset are not support by Kodi (and generally don't get along well together anyhow) if you where wishing one for that.

Hopefully they will essentially use the D5 stock firmware as the base for this and the Kodi fork that they bundled as for the first time on any RK box ,their Rockchip Codec actually worked, so for Jarvis at least, progress has been made.
Krypton on the other hand may well be another matter for a while.

That's the issue for most users they will not know to use a certain "fork" or not even know what a fork is then complain when it doesn't work correctly. Best to avoid for the non-superusers.

It should not matter out of the box as it will look like Kodi, work like Kodi and have the same interface, so they should get the benefits right now.

Gearbest sells android phones and boxes with viruses installed in firmware. Negative.

5+ phones, 5+ android boxes, 5+ tablets and a pipo x8 from them, no viruses, malware, adware installed.

No they don't.
What some boxes do come with however (from every vendor selling the same box, not just Gearbest) are the fully loaded Kodi installs or an option to install a bunch of undesirable Kodi addons) but using the Fresh Start addon, a clean Kodi installation can be easily achieved.
The one area that an AV app might generally flag up is where a box is rooted but rooting is not really malware but is simply identified as a tool that bypasses an OS's security.
But rooting is a common thing and whilst there are one or two methods of rooting out there that can introduce some malware, the boxes that are pre-rooted don't tend to be an issue and those that may be can be disinfected very quickly and easily.
If many of the boxes did come with lots of malware then we would hear a lot more about it, which is not the case.

I have bought two phones from them. Both came with viruses. They refused to return but thanks to PayPal I got money back. It is not rooting I am talking about. It deliberately installing viruses and back doors in firmware to steal your personal details, banking card details and other information that can be used for fraud. These unscrupulous sellers should be bought to justice for deliberately spreading malware and stealing personal information by installing backdoor software in firmware.

So phones but no boxes, which makes your original statement only half correct then if true.
Which phones were they?

Two branded phones. I would not trust any computer or phone from them. If you find any virus or back door you need to report them as well for computer hacking etc.

well you just keep making sweeping accusations without backing it up, all my phone and tablets from gearbest have been used for banking, never had a problem, first you said android boxes then phones.

I was wondering which specific models though so I can do some digging to gain other users experience.

Hi, What are they ? What's the specific models ? Could you please kindly send me details (order number) for re-checking ?
I read Sam conment in another thread and asked the sane thing. I have read before about Chinese devices having malware and viruses being sold on the net but it can emanate from any supplier.
Would like to know the device Sam had a issue with though.

I got the V88 Pro from Gear Best with 1Gb RAM and it is sooo slow. Once it is in Kodi, it is fine, but sometimes getting there is painful.
It has the Amlogic S905X chip rather than The Rockchip, but I don't think there is much difference. It is way slower than my 2 year old budget box, which also has 1Gb RAM.
I did get a Mini MX 2 with the S905 chip from Gearbest on a flash deal and that was much better and I got it to Vanilla Android, which I've not yet managed with the Scission. I've not had a problem from GearBest at all so far. Been using them for a few months now.
These are cheap for a reason, but the 2Gb may make a big difference.

There have been a lot of issues with the V88 Pro firmware that have contributed to it's issues.
I've got the Dolamee F5 with 1Gb RAM and as long as you keep background tasks to a bare minimum then it runs smoothly enough but if not then they are slow to use and the extra 1Gb should make quite a difference.
