Such an odd thing to say Captain Obvious. It's like posting a deal for a Smart Car & someone saying "Ferrari are better".

If I don't have much time, I use a jar of pataks and make it even better by using some whole spices and fresh coriander.
I first heat some oil on a gentle heat and when the oil is hot, I add 2 or 3cloves, a piece of cinnamon maybe an inch long and 2 or 3 cardamom and a whole dried red chilli.
I let the spices infuse into the oil for around 45 seconds (be careful not to let it burn)
You can remove the whole spices at this stage if you don't want too much heat.
I then add diced chicken to the oil and stir fry the meat till its sealed off.
I then add the sauce and cook it. Some chopped coriander at the end will make it taste even nicer.
On the other hand , the spice tailor brand is even better as it comes with the sauces/ whole spices etc in separate packets. I usually buy it when it's on sale for around £2 .
However this deal at 60p a jar is very good value.
Voted hot.

These are a great standby for when time is short, taste the best of all the jar brands and at 60p a jar - you would be hard pushed to gather all the fresh ingredients for that.
Plenty in stock in Crawley, although the main shelf doesn't show the promotion (the gondola end display does though).
Korma is also part of this promotion.

The jar Pataks sauces are horrible but the tinned ones they do are very nice.

Hi all , making a curry is easier than you guys think, I grate ginger & garlic every month & pop it in the freezer, I only break off chunks when I need them, that's basically your base along with a couple of chillies & whatever spices you like, Cheaper & SO much healthier too! Takeaway curries are full of cheap dangerous fats (ghee) & are NO way near as good as home made fresh ones us Asian family's are used to making nearly every day.,

Believe me, you'd prefer tinned to the rubbish I'd make at home!

I have never had a jar type curry that tastes nice. I even bought one that had some of the spices in the top of the jar & that was still poor. For a fast curry we now buy the ready made packets from the eastern shops ('Shan' is one make), often made in Pakistan & you can have a curry in minutes that tastes every bit as good as a restaurant one, even better than some I've been in. These often make several curries for two.

You are correct but the jars are a short-cut.
Also they are a first step for those who don't yet have to confidence to cook a decent curry from scratch.
Ok you or I could make something better from scratch easily but the sauces are a great way for people to make a start. Next go add their own spices and then try doing away with the cooking sauce all together.

I would laugh, I made the same comment about ALDI but got called a snob. I was in B&M today and the smell was unbearable, I made it quarter of the way around the labyrinth and had to make a sudden about turn because it was horrible.

This extends to most jarred sauces, but it especially applies to italian sauces in jars. Good lord talk about bad food... insanely offensive stuff. Italian is super simple to make with a can of chopped toms any way.

****Question****
Any of you guys still get the cans of Pataks Vindaloo in your B&Ms?
Not seen them in mine for a few weeks and I'm starting to panic!!!
(BTW, the cans of Pataks are by far superior to the jars. You have to make an onion / Onion + tomato base to go with it, but it's well worth the effort)

Pataks taste it has way to much sugar , korma etc. I've recently started making my own, it's a **** of pish to make, our food is way harder to get right as its mostly individual and not all mixed like most takeaway food, and ours is soooo much more healthy, so if u can do a Sunday roast, these dishes are just a walk in the park. Waiting for the usual fish and chips comment now lol
