I bought these last week, excellent value for money.

I've got a light in my kitchen which takes 4 of these GU10 bulbs. I've never had a bulb lasting up to 3 years from Screwfix - at the best around a month or two. I don't know why this is, as the light is not left permanently on and I had the house completely rewired around 4 years ago?

Might be vibration from the mounting. Halogen bulbs have a tungsten filament. When used they become brittle. Vibrations from the where the lights are mounted could explain their short life. LED do not have this problem. I assume you are referring to the Halogen GU10s? If you have halogens and decent dimmer then they should last 3-4 years even with daily use.

Think you might be right about the fixture after reading this. I have a long light which takes 4 of these bulbs, however, due to the ceiling being slightly artexed, the electrician said that he could not fit the round bit (ceiling rose shape and size) flush to the ceiling. So, yes, on one side of the round bit where it is fixed to the ceiling, there is a gap of a couple of millimeters. Would it be safe to perhaps place something on one side (to fill this small gap) so that the light fitting does not vibrate/move slightly when my family are walking around in the bedroom above the kitchen (where the light fitting is fitted)? Just wondering if a small piece of wood would be suitable, or could this be a fire hazard? Thank you.

Best NOT to fill any gaps just replace the bulbs.
The LED units get hot / warm though nowhere near the high temperatures of halogens.
LED units are electronic so movement / vibration is not an issue.
Check the light output of the new LED lamps you purchase there are 250lm units, 350lm and now 500+lm this is the light output not the power consumption. Larger lumen values mean a brighter light. The higher output lamps cost a bit more but can be worth it if you need the high light level output. Conversely if you have lots of lamps installed in a small areas (e.g. Kitchen) then the low output ones might be worth looking at.
I just purchased some MR16 12V LED for the shower and they sell 345 and 520lm bulb for £1.70 ish and £7 for the 520lm unit both 5W
Screwfix are good with returns - keep the receipt, if you they don't fit or buzz (the lamp not the dimmer!) you can return

I only used halogens as that is what it said with the light fitting - will it be safe to replace them with LED bulbs instead? Thank you.

Yes that will be fine. The new LED GU10 and MR16 are sold as replacements for the old Halogen bulbs. If you have doubts take the old lamps to the store they will check and provide you with the correct replacements either 240V or 12V dimmable or non dimmable choose a "warm white" colour rather than the "cold white" colour. The warm white is closer to the Halogen in appearance.

Thank you for your advice - the light is just for my kitchen fitting - long spot light (4 bulbs). I will see about getting some LED bulbs instead as I'm getting through so many of the halogen ones (probably due to the fixture not level with the ceiling and vibrations through the ceiling when my son is walking around upstairs).
