Just taken out a home insurance policy with John Lewis at quite a competitive price. Deal breaker was a free Nest smoke/ CO2 detector worth £89 which will be going straight on flea bay!

I live in a three bed detached house no claims etc and it was £107 buildings and contents for 12 months. Complete no brainer with the Nest thing thrown in!

Any idea how long it takes for you to get the nest smoke detector as I've already done this ?

states will be dispatched within 60 days of the policy start date - so maximum should be 2 months

This was posted 3 weeks ago and as a result I purchased the John Lewis insurance as mine was due for renewal. Worth reminding people though so heat added - again!
I missed that post sorry. I also forgot to go through quidco. Gutted now.

Oh nice one. Just remembered I used compare the market so registered for cinema tickets. Thanks for that.

I'm an existing customer. If i go online and apply as a new customer what would happen?
Would it recognise my details and knock me back or accept but then cause a problem in the event of a claim?
Just wondering because my renewal has gone up and would be interested if a new quote would come out cheaper (plus a free nest!).

Do you have to buy both building and contents cover? I live in a flat so only need contents cover, would the nest alarm apply for just that?

No issue doing that at all, I do that with all my insurance products usually as its rare for a renewal to cost less than new business, just cancel the direct debit and call them and tell them you dont want to renew your policy, give it a day or so to be safe with the direct debit and then just sign up as a new customer.
