A game that started off a shambles, but after numerous updates and dlc's, has turned out to be a decent racer on the PS4.

Not as arcade as need for speed but not as sim-like as project cars.
Somewhere in the middle but I'd say it was slightly more sim like than arcadey....
I loved it though and bought the season pass which is well worth the investment if you get it on a sale.
Not to mention a truck-load of trophies in the DLCs which are all fairly achievable with practice.

It's much more fun than the last GT, which has become very stale. The game is nothing like the original release day reviews, it is like night and day. Hands down the best looking racer on the PS4. You won't believe the weather effects.

Same here. Box was filthy and broken. I threw away the box it was so bad, and replaced it with a disc box. Fortunately the disc itself cleaned up almost like new though.

Received the game, not very impressed with the disc and box they were filthy. Cleaned it up and it works fine but shouldn't really have to do that when it's from a supposedly decent company, you would think they'd clean it up a bit!

Yes but when your driving along and crash and your hitting something that isn't there like a bush that's like a wall is bad. Why not finish the game properly they spent that much on effects like driving in the rain. You might get 2 hours game play out of this crap.

No you don't! It has a-synchornous multiplayer elements that don't need PS+, PS+ is only needed for live head to head racing. You can set challenges and stuff for other players without needing PS+

The truth is, unlike most games nowadays (especially RPGs and SIM racers) you can't cheat the system/difficulty by grinding for hours to get better cars and then beat your opponents.
In this game, you have to master the course through rigorous trial and error sometimes, and there's no rewind feature and blue/red lines to tell you when to accelerate and when to brake. This game is based on pure skill, hence Evolution Studios is dead and buried.
Now if you don't mind me, I am going to boot up Forza/GT, because boy I feel like a good gamer with those games!

Yes you've always been able to customise the appearance of the car, albeit the way to do it was rather hidden. You unlocked different designs through your career and the season pass adds lots of extra unlockable ones as well. One of the last updates added special reward paints as well.
It's not a car collecting game like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, you can't upgrade or modify the cars in any way, and it doesn't have the more limited upgrades that you get in Need For Speed either.
DriveClub was intended to a be a "social" racer, with the focus on driving and having fun and challenging friends/rivals, rather than the focus being on the cars themselves.

I bought and played for a bit but the fact you can't make a car ur own like build it up n change colour etc is a bit crappy. but then the last car game I enjoyed was one of the old need for speed undergrounds

Worst game ever, graphics top notch but game crap, I bought it for £15 and traded it in for about £4 . You hit invisible walls , track has invisible barriers round the edge. Would even bother spending £6.99. The price shows how bad the game play is.

Exactly, its a steaming pile of excrement.
The people here are simpletons impressed with a few special effects. Similar to those that watch movies with big explosions and celebrities, and think they are watching a masterpiece. I.e. the fast and furious fans.

It's a decent driving game as they go. The different cars and drive-trains have their own personality. It's a game that actually rewards feathering the throttle around corners when you have more power than grip.
Accelerating straight to full throttle in some cars punishes you and puts you in a skid. There are cars with less power that don't have that problem as well.
It's not Gran Turismo, but what it does do, it does well. I actually got hella bored of GT5 (last one I played), found the driving more fun in this. I am partial to collecting cars and lots of tweaking though, which is where Driveclub is a bit more restrictive. Also the whole DLC cars in the menus can **** off. I bought a product, not an advert.

Quick question. It seems the Season Pass adds a lot to this. Is it compatible though?
It says it is for "Driveclub Full Game for Playstation Plus". Is that the same as the disc version?
hobsgrg to LotusJas
3 Oct 161#44
That isn't the season pass! For a few months Sony gave away a stripped down PS+ version for free, that is the upgrade to make it the full version you are looking at, which would then make it the same as this.
Much more. You can't even modify your car. Its a crap game and I don't know why people are raving about it.

It's nothing like Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo is more a car collecting and modding "game" with sadly vastly outdated driving mechanics, DriveClub is all about having fun and amazing graphics, and I say that as a die hard GT fan!
Although DriveClub is more arcade than Gran Turismo it is by no means pure arcade like Need For Speed, has a great balance between accuracy and fun.

Once you unlock the faster cars, you'll find that their handling feels a lot less arcadey than the slower cars that you start off with. There's also a 'hardcore' mode if you want an even less arcadey experience.
I've been playing sim racers almost exclusively since GT1, but I I began to enjoy Driveclub's handling model after a week or two of playing.

Just to echo over comments the game was a mess at launch but over time they made it a great game. Strongly recommend the season pass as well, vastly expands the single player experience and adds a lot more variety and supports stuff they added later like the weather effects.

It's a wonderful game; if they had been given an extra 6 months to polish it would have swept up numerous awards. Sadly it launched before it was ready and it pretty much killed it off before it got out of the blocks.
Worth every penny, as is the DLC.

And if you are new to Grainger, you get a 10% code (lasts a week) to use on next order, so could then perhaps order the other offers they have on, for example Star Wars Battlefront and Tom Clancy's The Division, making them £8.99 and £11.69 respectively.
Code only good for used games, so no good for FIFA17 for example.
