Low RAM, poor warranty, so no confidence in the quality of its products. When warranty runs out, do they even talk to you? Worst service I have ever encountered and many laptops unreliable.
Compare US to UK prices and see how UK users were historically ripped off after VAT is taken in to account for these Chinese built machines. Now the pound is so low the gap has finally diminished

Quite agree. I buy a lot of computers (IT buyer for a school) and, lately, Dell are the only make that I haven't had problems with. The build quality, particularly hinges and trackpads, are so much better than anyone else's. Dell did have a rough patch a few years ago but they're really good again now.

This is now hovering on the £300 mark and for that money it`s good value for what you`re getting.
I went to Dell put in cn55710 and the price is now £319.
Go through TCB for another 7% off the price before VAT and you`re at the £300 barrier.
Put any pc company into Trustpilot, HP,Acer,Asus,Lenovo,etc., and the reviews are crap.
Hardly a reliable site to form an opinion about any company.

The older i3s go for 200 - 250 with 8gb of ram, not like you need 8gb of ram with an i3 anyway but the laptop would still be considerably cheaper.

I remember buying a cheap Acer Celeron laptop in 2006. Compared to that (which has long been scrapped) this has 8 times the memory, 20 times the storage space and the CPU is 4-5 times as powerful.
Oh yeah, it has exactly the same 15.6" 1366 x 768 screen.
It beggars belief that they are still pedalling this rubbish. Who would buy 10 year old technology on a new machine? Anyone seen the resolutions of their 5" phones?

I do this with 17" laptops. One laptop has full HD and one does not. I do not see much difference. If I did it on a 15.6" screen the text would be too small, even on a full HD screen. I am old and my eyes are poor!
If you want a full HD screen, the option is simple, pay the extra. Is this too much to ask in 2016?
Do not expect full HD on a £325 laptop especially with the pound so weak.

I have to say that I was surprised by how much difference adding extra ram made to my ageing laptop (celeron 2955u, 4GB DDR3 and 128GB SSD) , especially as it's only really used for web browsing.
With loads of tabs open in chrome it would constantly slow to a crawl or freeze. Now with 8GB DDR3 it's like a different machine. Whilst not lightning fast, web browsing on the whole is pleasurable again and will probably mean I can wait another year or so before upgrading.
As for this deal it seems ok but I personally would want more ram. I've always found my past Dell products to be pretty reliable and my XPS laptop was bullet proof.

Also set your power option profile to high performance which will keep the CPU clock higher but obviously deplete the battery quicker.

But browsing and Office is exactly where a high-dpi screen shines: text is nice, clear, sharp, and easy to read. For video, music, games etc, FHD is distinctly secondary, but for office applications I would consider it too good to ignore. (typing on a 0.1mm dot pitch screen... which has 6 pixel for every 1 pixel of this cheap laptop).

It's cost. Most manufacturers do not have HD screens unless they are higher end more expensive models. Every pound matters. The same reason why all laptops still do not have SSD drives. I am not surprised. Not everyone cares or believes an HD screen is required for browsing and using x-Office software and do not want to pay more.
I did not vote hot, but inform people of the price of a similar laptop with an HD screen so they can decide whether it is worth the extra, in their view.

That statement is true. Substitute any other consumer product for "resolution screens" and it is still true. But probably obvious.
My point - and only point I'm making here - is I am surprised they are still selling 10 year old LCD technology on their low end laptops. Better value screens exist, there are FHD displays (or higher) on almost all cheap Chinese tablets. I guess their answer would be: we put in 10 year old LCD screens because they are still cheap and people still buy them.

Mind you, it is not actually giving you i7 performance, because it is an i7-u CPU, designed for tablets and ultra-portables. Then there is the lack of a touch screen, only HD resolution, the lack of SSD, and the single channel RAM. Overall that looks pretty mediocre to me.

Motherboards consistently failed. I had 3 replaced on business Vostro range. Common faults which they refuse to accept. When warranty is over they refused to speak about any issue. Every other organisation I dealt with will attempt to help. If a solution involves a repair they may charge. Dell simply stated, no warranty. We will not offer any help. If a repair is required they expect me to waste my time undertaking the repair myself spending 1 hour on a chat when they should pick up and repair. The sales staff were rude and arrogant. The other issue is they appear to be operating and invoicing outside England, from Ireland, making small claims court claims harder.

I've had various brand of laptops and PC's and have always found Dell to have the best build quality and have had no problems with after sales support unlike with HP laptops.

On a laptop with a CPU 2 series older you will get 8gb ram but the ram would also be slower.
