Hot deal. Wanted one about a month ago but the screwfix Titan one was on offer so got that instead.
I'm now a believer! Was on holiday for 2 weeks and came back to a very patchy lawn. Scarifying works - see pics below which were taken over the last month and judge for yourself.
BEFORE - 13 September - Wierd patchy looking lawn....didn't seem too bad...or so I thought...
DURING - 14 September - Incredible amount of thatch! I didn't know there was so much dead grass in my lawn. Filled about 12 big bags and ripped the left side bare . Had me worried for a bit...
DURING - 22 September - After scarifying, I added ALDI Autumn Fertilizer a day later. The soil was a bit stoney and also uneven where I had pulled weeds out so I top dressed (as in picture below) with a mixture of sharp sand and topsoil. I then overseeded with Evergreen Fast grass (Excellent deal at Homebase - 6kg for £19.97). The seed had germinated after about 6 days. Only watered with no cutting for about 2 weeks.
I then trimmed the grass and spread more seed where there were gaps as the birds suddenly loved my garden :smirk: and topdressed again with a mixture of topsoil and compost then sprayed ferrous sulphate to get rid of residual moss and give the grass a boost.
AFTER - 10 October - result!
Picture taken an hour ago. Gave the grass a trim yesterday. Looks much better I think. It's thinner along the left side but that is mostly new lawn and where the birds raided. Hope all this helps someone off the fence to crack on before winter sets in as I was unsure myself even whilst I was doing it!
Oh, HOT deal by the way <3
