compared to the normal 12-20% interest on credit cards 4% doesnt sound too bad

Seems like transfer fees are creeping up these days. But, still an excellent offer and better than a straight loan due to the more flexible payments (IF you are the organised/disciplined type!) and lower interest rate.

Can someone please explain to me how balance transfer cards work? Am I right in thinking that I take out one of these cards and then I am able to transfer the total limit of the card as cash direct to my bank account which I then have 42 months to pay off before the interest starts to kick in?
How much limit do these cards have? I am going through a house move so could do with one of these to purchase house furnishings without having to worry about paying interest.

Think you need a money card for what you are describing, there was a deal on here a while back for a virgin one, worth looking at for the comments section alone :smile:

No you need to do a money transfer for that. Your existing credit card may already offer you the ability to do this, give them a call. Otherwise just get a card that offers interest free on purchases for a long period (2/3 years)

Most cards depend on your credit score and what they're willing to give you on that score. I mainly posted this deal for the fact I get CCs and when the interest free runs out I'll get another one with like 32 months or more to transfer the money over. What you're after which has been stated is a money transfer which most cards will do and it's basically if you have a limit of say '£2000' then you can transfer all that into your bank and pay it off monthly. Just search on Google "Interest free credit cards" and read the ones that have 'money transfer'
But if you're wanting to do a money transfer then you might as well just get a CC that's got interest free on purchases. I've just done a Virgin on with 25 months interest free on transfers and purchases, so why not buy one with 25 months interest free on purchases and just do it that way.

You'll probably struggle to get an interest free card if you've never had one before. By all means give it a go though.

The ironic thing is you may struggle to get a card like this if you have never had a credit card before. Credit card companies like to see a history of you being in debt and paying what is due on time each month.

What kind of card are you more likely to be accepted for? A balance transfer one or a 12/24 month interest free one?
