The drives are incredibly noisy and I sent mine back.

Do you know if it's multi-platter? I'm considering retiring my old 1.5TB Seagate, as that's multi-platter and therefore fairly loud compared to my quiet system.

I don't find mine to be noisy. Louder than WD Green drives? Yes, but then it spins 50% faster, delivers superior read/write speeds and consequently runs hotter. I place a fan in front of it, and the Cooler Master Xilence fan running at half speed is much much louder than the drive.
Absolutely it's got at least 3 platters in it! Just not sure whether it has any more.

I sent mine back after 3/4 days..
It was so noisy - I just had enough of it and bought a slightly more expensive WD drive

What would you recommend instead? I'm after a reliable 3TB 7200 but would definitely like to avoid a noisy drive.
The reviews on Amazon are so confusing, some people saying it's silent and others complaining about the noise.

Still not cheaper than 2014, I paid 64.99
P.s Still going strong in my NAS, been online pretty much since 2014, so they are great drives IMO.

Just sent back a 4TB Toshiba drive that was supposed to be part of a RAID pair because it was so noisy you couldn't think, sounded like a centipede shod in tin clogs learning Flamenco.

I think I'll skip over this one then, as between here, Amazon, and eBuyer, I've seen a few complaints about noise.
Cheers.

it all depends on what system your putting it in to, if it's going in to an old noisy pc then it's probably going to sound quiet, compared to what it's replacing .

They really are. Barely any movement on the price of any capacity HDD in 18 months. Doubt the chart would look much different at 24 or even 36 months.
Need a deal on a reliable 6tb drive as want 4, not getting my hopes up though given the way prices have been lately.
This is a very good price for 3tb, noise not an issue for all as their storage could be in a different room. Added heat!

I have not noticed anything on mine, I think it really depends on what those people were using it for at the time.
Its actually been roughly at that price for a while, I bought mine over a month ago, I think its worth it

should drives like this only be used for mass storage or servers or something? I recently bought a 4tb drive and am planning to use it for daily use. it is likely to break easier?

You can normally set the acoustic profile of the drive to quiet , normal, or performance if you don't like the clicking

lOOked at this, but thought no, its for a server, mass storage .. so 5200/5900 is fast enough and cool enough. Might try a shingle drive as slow writes not really a big problem. liked Toshiba drives reviously, quiet enough. SMR drives seem to run quite hot tho ....

I have a 2tb p300, I have it in a midi tower, which has 3 other hdds in it and is placed on the floor(yes i know about the dust) anyhoo when added it made no additional sound
Your placement of your case and in relation to your ears will make a difference and also the case design will also alter the acoustics.

In the pre-cartel days the price per GB would halve every 18 months.
