Seems like worth a punt as 12V power supply is easy to find and probably they won't need any special LED drivers.
Luminosity stated is 840lumens per meter, so i am guessing these are same or better than philips hue white ambiance light bulbs (light output-wise), but since these are a strip would probably distribute light better. For those interested in DYI might get a light driver with RPI for remote dimming.
2 questions: Can you cut the strips down to smaller pieces? And what powers them? Batteries/mains?

yes you can. you cut them at specific points. You can mains power them via an led driver or use a power supply plugged to wall socket. They sell adapters so you can just clip them to the end of the light strip and your power supply will plug straight into them. Make sure to work out what ampage you'll need based on the type of led on the strip and how many there are.
White and Warm white seem to be £2.25 (so 25p more)

Can you put this behind your TV to replicate an AmbiLight TV like Philips make?

if you use a separate power supply yeah. but there was a TV lighting kit on here through Amazon which is usb powered so just plug straight into the USB port on the TV. was 15.99

They seem to have option to select white/warm white or the RGB on this page - http://www.banggood.com/5M-300-LEDs-SMD-3528-Flexible-LED-Strip-Light-Non-Waterproof-DC-12V-p-922277.html?utm_source=tradetracker&utm_medium=tradetracker&utm_content=15981&utm_campaign=171762.
