just buy a electric jigsaw £10 from homebase. it's really good! what's the point of these now

Many reasons.
The jigsaw could fail, requires finesse or a guide to cut straight, needs power (and likely lugging an extension out), has smaller blades so needs to be replaced more often (and usually cost a bit more), has a maximum cutting depth, and... usually slower.
I love a good jigsaw, you really should have both around. But if you could only have one, the hacksaw is the one.
