So my 11year old has been hassling me for a contract sim for ages. I've just called virgin and have been offered a rolling 30 day contract for £5 a month for the first 6 months. After the 6 months I will be charged £10 but I can cancel before that or phone up to get a new deal. For this deal I was an existing virgin media customer ( I didn't have a mobile phone with them) and had to bring a phone number over to use. For £5 a month I get 2GB Data , 2500 Minutes, Unlimited Texts,Unlimited Virgin mobile minutes and 2500 Mins to 0800/0845/0870/0808 numbers . I am also being sent a free payg SIM card with £10 free credit and 1gb data ( I think it had some other free bits on but I didn't get it all down) . It's not 4g yet but the lady said he will be provided with this free of charge next month when it's brought in.
I am now in sons good books so even if this isn't voted hot I've won mum of the day award

An 11 year old who travels 5 miles on a bus and walks through a town centre to get to school. To be honest I'm not bothered by the 4g as he is only 11. I just want something cheap that I know he will always be able contact me and allows him a bit of Data too.

Be worth a mention in the title that this is for existing customers only

I'm not 100% sure you do need to be an existing customer. I had to have a credit check for the phone even though I've been with virgin for about 5 years for my tv/ landline/ broadband. It's worth trying even if you're not an existing customer.

It's existing customers only, these deals have been posted many times, you can't ring up and get this without having a previous/exisiting contract for either mobile or their home services

I am with virgin and I would recommend but just be aware they do not cap your data so make sure they don't go over as it will be very expensive. Voted hot.

I've just read that online too. With unlimited texts and 2500 minutes ( he might use 100 texts and 20 mins at most) he will find it difficult to go over and has been warned about picture messages! He may need to stay off Pokémon Go near the end of the month I think!

I spoke to customer service last week they said we can reduce the credit on the account when I asked how much it was I nearly fell off my chair £125 but they could reduce it, oh that's good, what's the lowest £25!!!

Wookiemummy.... Download the Virgin Media "Manage my Account" app from the Play store so you can keep an eye on usage.
Keep an eye on the Virgin Mobile website... They just had a " double up offer". If they do so again, even before the end of your 6 months, if may be worth changing deal earlier.
What you have is the £10 per month bundle.
I have the same, but just got double data (4gb) for the tenner.

You say this, but, think about it, going into seniors/high school around that age, isn't it best we all give our kids a phone and contract, not sure if it's just me but the world is getting worse. Best to give them a cheap contract sim like this, along with a half decent handset if needs be.

I guess you wont reply to any of the comments since you have made an amazingly low level of comments in your time on this site, but its not for you to judge and unfortunately many kids are now in an age where they need a phone even for school. Schools are using google classroom to store so much stuff including homework and use the websites for timetables etc. My eldest can do her homework in her lunch break and upload it straight back to the cloud. times have changed, the world has moved on significantly.

I am with Virgin media and virgin mobile.. In Sept I try to leave but lady said in october 4G service will be available... no sign till now.. I have very much doubt that virgin will give 4g for general customer as they are running 4g service on mobile for business customer... Does anyone has any confirmation for date?

4G should have been October but it has been pushed back to November.
Current tarrifs might not be 4G compatible so when 4G gets rolled out existing customers will have to swap to a 4G tarrif.
