Gift cards are not treated like cash, they are treated like gift cards. They are not treated like a discount voucher.
If they were treated like cash then you could use one gift card to purchase another gift card.

They are in respect to deals were you can't use discount codes or say Tesco club card vouchers or nectar points

you can use them to buy a gift card, I get Sainsburys gift card reloads with 5% off and have on many occasions used this to buy gift cards at sainsburys for other things.

That is useful, usually you are not allowed to do that.
