O2 have the z5 compact for £168 on o2 refresh. Take out the £25 1gb tarriff, once received request unlock then pay off the £7 x 24 device plan and cancel the airtime. Or you can purchase pay as you go like new for £179.99.

O2 also have the like new z5 for £232. To get this tariff select the 1gb £18 with £39.99 upfront and do same as above.

O2 customer service is total garbage. Got a Z5 back in 1st October and still having issues with refund.

I've been charged twice at £18 for October and November so total £36, O2 chat initially said i'd receive full amount, but never did, so called via phone today (after failing with O2 chat again) and apparently i'll be receiving only £17.40 as i "used my phone" in October and was charged 60 pence.

So £18 charge because of a 60p charge that i called another phone in order to activate the sim as instructed on this thread by others, did anyone else get charged for this? I did all of this within 10 days, so well within the 14 day cooling off period, so not sure how i got charged £18 or how i got charged 60p considering it was a call to my other phone which is a Three sim done so i could start the phone unlock process, and i would have thought it's from the O2 minutes allowance?

Now have to wait another 10 days to maybe receive £17.40 when i should be getting £36. Pretty annoyed. Is there anyone else who called another phone to activate the O2 sim and initiate their unlock process been charged the £18 rental for that month?

I was a bit quick to throw things away, and ideally I'd like the box it came with now, does anyone have it still lying around? so I can package up and kinda gift to my bro who needs a phone for xmas? he wouldn't mind me just giving it to him straight up but it would nice if I wrapped it and everything

Anyone else had these issues?

- Callers unable to hear you clearly (sound like you're far away)
- When on speaker callers complain of echo
- Camera lag is ridiculous (even on manual)
- Data (same SIM on same network from before in Galaxy) cuts out in places it didn't before
- Battery seems to deplete fast... (maybe just used to previous phone or maybe using it more than normal as it's new)

I've now cancelled contract and am returning my Z5 Compact after thoroughly disappointing couple of days with it. Didn't meet my expectations.

Back to the drawing board...

Still can't fault the deal (bargain price) although I had a massive argument with the Retentions department after I'd paid off the phone (£168) because they insisted that the airtime agreement had to have 30days notice to be cancelled.

I was under the impression I had 14days to cancel it but they told me if I did this I would have to return the phone too...

Had to agree to pay for first months £18 airtime... very annoyed as I was abroad and didn't have access to the contract details - it's a moot point now as getting completely refunded as returning the phone but be careful with this.

Takes up to 72hours once the O2 website recognises your IMEI which took 24hours for me. i got the code emailed in 48hours though so a day quicker than expected.

Ordered this on Monday, it's a nice phone but after setting it up I discovered the headphone socket was faulty. It was only playing through one ear, when I moved the jack around it would go into stereo but any slight movement and it went back to one ear. It was still on lollipop so couldn't have been the fault caused by the marshmallow update. I arranged for a replacement and after o2 messed the replacement order up a couple of times, which involved me having to contact them to sort it out, they managed to make another mistake and sent me a Z5 instead of a Z5 compact! Now I can't make my mind up whether to keep it or not....

There are lots of complaints on forums about this, and various ebay sellers selling a replacement headphones jack. It's definitely a hardware fault as well as you can force the headphones to connect by pushing the headphone jack over. I'm sending it back, shame because the form factor is exactly what I want. I'll hold out for another 4.7" phone ~£200 mark

Also anyone know what model is this: E5803 or E5823? I missed it on the O2 site.

14 Oct 16 #102
It's not a hardware fault.

My Z5c has problem detecting certain headphones/earphones. The earphones icon will pop on notification bar on the top but disappears quickly. It's basically hit and miss. Just have to keep unplugging/plugging it in until it detects it.

What I done is downgraded back to Lollipop and the 3.5mm port works perfect 100%!

It's the Android OS v6.0 which is buggy. Google has done some update to the audio part of the OS. So manufactures like Sony, SAMSUNG, Nextbit are having issues with audio playback via 3.5mm on Android v6.0.

If it was a common fault, i think there'd be hundreds of complaints and videos online highlighting the problem, i think it could be a bad batch of phones rather than all Z5's being affected.

Is your phone the Z5 or the Z5 compact? Have you updated the OS? I know you mentioned the jack flex may be causing the problem, but the phone buttons could just as easily be causing it due to software issues, so an update might fix it? When i started my phone up, there was OS update after update with multiple restarts and eventually i was fully updated, maybe worth a try before you return it.

Also, if you want to check the batch number, it's on the label inside the sim port can be pulled out like so:
http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz5premium/userguide/Imei-number/
Batch example would be: 15W39

Works fine on lollipop, it's the android marshmallow update.
MonkeyG0D
12 Oct 16 #97
It was fine and then it wasn't, if I leave it untouched then it seems to work but if I put it in my pocket then it disconnects frequently as the headphones jack flexes, tried. Different headphones and the same issue :-/ I fear that if you don't have the issue now you will in the future as it seems to be a poorly constructed headphone port
Xad
12 Oct 16 #96
Is yours the Z5 or the Z5 Compact? What is the problem, is it that the audio comes out from the speaker even when the headphones are plugged in?

Fortunately mine seems to work fine. It could be specific batches with the problem otherwise there'd be thousands experiencing the problem.
MonkeyG0D
12 Oct 16 #95
Received the phone yesterday, problem with headphone jack became apparent immediately, spent 30 minutes on hold to return the phone :-/ Turns out this is a known fault with Sony Z5's and I'm not going to take the risk of it failing later on when I can't return it for free so I'm going to find another phone. Shame it seemed like a great deal!

Taken the plunge and gone for the Yellow. Read reviews of Xperia X Compact which is glossy (like first Xbox One). Many people reported faint scratches on the back even though they looked after it.

I rather take my chances with the Z5C and for that price (£179 for PAYG). Well yellow should be striking when walking around with it. Might get attention of some women haha or men thinking I'm gay.

I should have read this sooner. Just called o2, paid off the phone and cancelled the tariff. Was told that the sim would be deactivated within 24 hrs.

Then spoke to a lady in CS who said the sim needs to be in the phone for at least 24hrs before being registered. Just done this now, hopefully it will register!

Be wary of the advice about cancelling the device plan and the airtime is automatically cancelled. On my account I saw a new notice (I have settled previous refresh accounts early and not had to pay the airtime anymore).

"You don’t have any Device Plan payments to make.
If you want to pay more than your monthly repayment, or settle your remaining balance, call 202 from an O2 mobile or 0344 8090202 from a landline, or visit an O2 store. Extra payments will reduce the monthly cost of your Device Plan, but won’t shorten the length of your contract."

Having problems with my order  Anyone received there's today (Friday)?

Ordered yesterday (29th) 10pm, when i entered my email it told me it was registered already and i should log in as i had an O2 account years ago not any more though, so i did so and order went through, and i was supposed to receive it today, but i didn't, and now the live chat person is stating that apparently because i logged in the system thought i want to port over my old (currently with Three) phone number and that's why apparently i've been put through credit check which may delay things.

He's advised me to cancel and repurchase and set up a new account with a new email address; does that sound normal? Sounds weird to me that i can't buy a new phone and plan using my old O2 account email (Gmail) address?

Think i'll wait a few days and see what happens, doubt i'll get anything during the weekend as they charge extra for that, not sure i'll get anything next week, very poor on O2's part in keeping me updated on the progress of my order.

Update: Received text from O2 telling me my phone is on the way and will be with me Monday. Turns out O2 live chat is completely useless and i was given bad and incorrect advice, luckily i did not take that livechat guys advice as i could have ended up with two credit checks in a row. Anyway, looking forward to the phone, hoping it's in new-ish condition as the description on O2 states.

You can request O2 to unlock it for free either online via a form or possibly phone them.
Cancel either by phoning or maybe online chat.
I would request the unlock code first then cancel contract after you have received it.
I think you have to have had the phone for 24 hours before requesting unlock possibly to make sure it is in their system.
ficosaneil
29 Sep 16 #5
You need to call O2 for both, they will cancel the airtime once you have the phone and unlock it. Have a look at some of the other O2 refresh deals on here, there are some detailed step by step guides to cancelling and unlocking.
Also be aware of the risks with this, O2 will most likely try and take the full contract cost out of your bank after you cancel which you'll need to claw back off them. If you cancel the DD to avoid this then you will run the danger of getting your credit score damaged.
