Since your comment has managed to find 4 likes, I'll explain for you. It's designed to be a replacement for chicken. So people who eat chicken, but don't want to anymore, can replace it with something similar. So they can reuse the same recipes. They could say something like "Meat-free Chicken substitute", but the "meat-free" part should really give you all the information you need.

I've tried quorn mince a few times to try and bring healthier. I find it awful. not just bland, it actually manages to ruin a bolognese or similar.
I have only used the 'chicken pieces ' once in a pasta bake for an easy meal. It seemed to soak up the flavours well and tasted fine

Can you please just make a separate supermarket thread like the sim / alcohol deals one etc. That way rubberbullets can just keep adding the new supermarket deals each week, and we can check the thread to see the new deals. As its posted by a helper I'm sure you'll be able to keep the thread at the top of the page.

The mince is actually ok, I would recommend it in a chilli con carne. The chicken pieces however aren't all that nice, have a strange almost latex-like after taste. For those non vegans try half mince half quorn and see what it's like :-)

Is that a joke? They never mentioned meat for starters just (quite rightly) that most food is processed.

And they mention eat healthy, you know you can get fruit and veg which is healthy.

I for one like quorn mince though, but never had the frozen version of it.

I'm a typical meat eater am I? Have you ever met a meat eater that doesn't eat meat? If so what are they called? They're called vegetarians, I'm a vegetarian and I gave my opinion of this product. You owe me an apology that's if you're big enough to admit you were totally wrong. Also this is a public forum for debate, plenty of meat eaters like eating Quorn.

In short you made a massive assumption about me because you assumed I'm meat eater because only meat eaters would criticise a vegetarian product. That's not how criticism works, I criticised based on experience and the fact that this is a processed food product. So take your assumptions elsewhere and as a vegetarian I don't feel superior to anyone as you obviously feel entitled as a vegetarian. One thing you need to learn in this life is that your own opinions can be at fault and you've learnt something today which is not to make assumptions as they will make a fool out of you.
ryouga
8 Sep 16 #24
Its quite funny how you say negative things about meat eaters then accuse people who don't agree with your opinion meat eaters.

You can be a meat eater and RIGHTFULLY have a negative opinion of a vegetarian product just as a vegetarian can have a negative opinion of a meat product.

Its interpretation that is the key, if you criticised high quality cheap meat for no reason it would be wrong, if you criticised a cheap ready meal then it would be acceptable both unless ego came into it.

Another day another "I'll get my coat..." comment from firstofficer..

Funny thing is, I am actually interested in these deals, hence why I'm here. But why are you there? Just to say the words "Tastes like cardboard. I'll get my coat...". You must log on every day, search for Quorn deals, and click in just to post that, for every Quorn deal. Are you completely oblivious to how pathetic that is? Perhaps if you were in the slightest bit successful in your trolling that might go some way to justifying your presence here.
NitrousUK
9 Sep 16 #27
Wrong. Healthy was the correct answer you were looking for. But since you think "processed" is a valid term to describe nutrition, it's evident you're not equipped to comment.
Processed means nothing. I say this every time but maybe one day this will sink in.
There is zero evidence Quorn has any negative effect, apart from one website which quotes allergies (which every food has), who are paid by Quorns biggest competitor (Garden Burger).
firstofficer
9 Sep 16 1 #30
I don't think he's trolling.. I must say that I agree with him..
firstofficer
9 Sep 16 #31
There's a lot of anecdotal evidence out there that the elements used in the Quorn manufacturing process maybe subject to GM exploits. So this would imply a degree of processing. The quorn itself derives itself from fungi or mushroom and is cultured to its current form, using chemical and hormonal stimulants. How anyone can call this unprocessed I will never quite comprehend. Although true to say, the final nutritional values would appear well balanced..

There's a lot all over the Internet abut the potential harms of GM foods (and by that I'm not saying Quorn is directly GM)... But it's worth a read..

I'll get me coat..
NitrousUK
9 Sep 16 #32
And exactly zero scientific, reliable, or credible evidence for any negative effect of Quorn.
"Chemical stimulants", you mean plant food...
It's not "unprocessed", but implying that because it isn't plucked straight out of the ground then it must be inherently bad for you makes absolutely zero scientific or logical sense. Just because there are some processes that make food unhealthy, does not mean that *all* processes make food unhealthy. Surely you have enough intelligence to understand that.

And there is nothing GM in Quorn, so that's irrelevant.
firstofficer
9 Sep 16 #33
Do you have shares in Quorn or something .. ? U get next-level defensive even with the slightest bit of a challenge by anyone...

Anyway I've never been a man of p-values or RCTs but what I do recommend is for people do their own homework based on all the data out there, credible or otherwise.

Just to add, just because there is no (statistically significant) evidence that something is bad, is not the same as saying there is evidence that it's good..

You are obviously very naïve in this whole process and hence your posts contain a lot of gibberish and waffle statements which are not particularly helpful to anyone..

I'll get my coat..

FFS are you real? I criticise meat eaters on veggie threads and will carry on doing so as long as they keep mocking people who don't eat meat and slagging off our views. Try and find a veggie thread without negative comments on it by meat eaters. Good luck with that. They troll all the time, can't help themselves. Any veggies on your meat deals mocking and criticising your food? NO. I use this site to find cheap deals on what I buy and save money, not to read negative comments by idiots who know all about what I eat, how it's made, how it's no good for me. Weak willed veggie wannabe's ?

by the way my favourite tasting food is roast beef. Nothing better tasting than a good sunday dinner. I choose not to after seeing how chickens are treated in our local chicken factory. They kill millions, Yes millions, well the ones that aren't dead on arrival. Don't like Hearing cows on milk farms crying out all night for the calf they were made to carry by farmers so they produce milk for them.
One last fact, the whole family in my house eat meat all the time. I even pay for it. 26 years meat free and not a problem.
NitrousUK
9 Sep 16 #36
It's not a challenge. It's being annoyed by people like you. Who are so insecure they have to attack with baseless FUD a simple product because it doesn't completely agree with your life choices. You are trying your hardest to deflect people away from something that has the potential to genuinely make their life better (healthier, live longer, less animal harm), all because your ego is so intensely fragile that you can't bare the mere existence of anything that doesn't support your lifestyle. Which I personally find incredibly selfish and irresponsible.

You don't need to lecture me on statistical significance (I'm currently doing a Masters in Statistics). I never said there was evidence for it being good, I said there was no evidence for it being bad. All you can do, with anything, is show the probability of something bad evading our ability to detect it decreases, to the point of being significant enough to assume it does not exist. Which in this case, we can say. Given the lack of evidence for anything negative, we can fairly safely assume it most likely does not exist.

Or you can just believe whatever you want in a fairy land and ignore all evidence and data..

I can see nothing but trolling from you, I can't see a single meat eater negative response here at least in normal sense, I can see a few people complain about the taste of the product none that are saying all vegetarian products are tasteless and none saying all(or any) meat products taste better.

You make sweeping statements without proof, and even if it was true its not 100% of the time nor is that vegetarians never criticise in meat threads (Which I have seen)

I agree with your comments. Some Quorn products do taste a little bland and cardboard-like especially when eatern straight from the pack after thawing. I'd recommend the mince which suffers less from the cardboard effect.
