Surely that's completely subjective? I hate Touchwiz so I'd agree that the S7 would be a terrible phone for me.

£57 difference with 10% student discount on both and £63 without. In my opinion worth the extra money due to having a better camera, better screen, better processor (with newer architecture), better battery and being newer (so in all likelihood it will be supported for longer).

I wasn't a fan of this deal, but to me the op3t actually sounds like a good deal (especially if you get the student discount!).

So the 3T has a 10℅ faster CPU, 13℅ bigger battery and a 16mp front snapper. It will costs £399. My question is - is it worth the extra £99? (£300with student discount for the 3). And does this mean OnePlus will no longer support the 3? Will the 3T permanently replace the 3???

I've been looking around, not many stores with them to start with but those that do insist on either a £10 or £15 airtime credit, however none have said it is eligible for a student discount. Only if you take a Refresh airtime plan and even then the discount is off the plan only.

Has anyone commented on that you can get 50% off staff discount, if you know someone who works for O2, or 25% off your employer is part of O2 open discount program. these discounts only applies to the airtime part of any agreement on a mobile phone agreement.

1) You need to make sure you have the right APN for the cell network you are on. One wrong letter or number can throw it off. Not make it work right. The APN also needs to be for GSM network, it does make a difference. If necessary delete your current APN and re-enter it correctly. 2) Sometimes the app you are using can be bugged. Often all you need to do is to go into Settings > Apps scroll down to your messenger app drill down to cache option, delete cache. Also while you are in the Settings menu go down to Storage and & USB go to the cached data, delete. Reboot phone. This can solve some problems. No guarantees but its worth a try and not too hard to do.

The Oneplus 3 is and always will be an unlocked GSM Phone that won't change. It is part of Oneplus's manufacturing philosophy. It is also unbranded. Oneplus doesn't sell branded phones that I am aware of.

I bought an Anker cable from John Lewis , there's a guy on Google who tests them all for performance etc as some can't take the extra voltage, personally I'd go for a decent make rather than price as you don't want to damage/fry your phone with a cheapo cable.

Don't forget a cable not made by OP won't work with the DASH charger, so your back to routine slow charging.

Instead of PAYG, just get the cheapest airtime contract and cancel within 14 days under your statutory rights. You will need to pay the balance of the handset contract if you want to keep it. It should cost you nothing for airtime but they may try to charge pro rata for the days before cancellation (it depends who you are dealing with from O2)

Not sure why you are defending o2 and even though Oneplus hasn't sold in UK stores before doesn't mean people don't know about it and how popular it is. Why do you think this deal has so much heat? o2 know full well how much demand there is for this phone otherwise they wouldn't sell it. My local store only had four in stock since launch and hasn't had any in since. Do you think that's good business practice?
TheUrbis
13 Oct 16 2 #878

You are lucky, i literally called about ten stores today. All of them said they are out of stock and don't know when they are getting them in. Totally useless staff who have no clue. It's ridiculous o2 would even bother selling the oneplus 3 to begin with when they can't get any stock.

Finally bought one from my local store yesterday! They had only sold one other - to a member of staff. Available on PAYG but went for refresh £14 handset / £14 airtime plan with option to cancel both and return handset within 14 days. So I have a 14 day trial if necessary. I haven't even opened the o2 sim and will cancel air time contract and keep phone. The store tried to tell me the phone was locked but I'm running three 4g perfectly fine. My first impressions were always good when I tried in store and also a mate's phone but I was swayed by negative comments on this thread. So far, I love it. It has a real quality feel and the only negative thing I can find to say is the preapplied screen protector is a bit too small.

If you look at every other device in this segmant the price has fine down. What better way to stir hype and start panic buying at full whack before a price drop.
Every year since they started they have ran out of stock and inventory yet only sell a million of 2.
I postd earlier on their manufacturing methods and that they never actually hold any stock whatsoever.
I you listening to old Pete he is not the most reliable, he has a long list of misinformation and gaffs all over the internet that you can look at.

What advantage is there in any company saying there's delays of weeks in delivering phones, meaning that customers go elsewhere to buy their new phones?

The fact virtually everyone is selling this is still the best bang for bucks phone is surely going to mean sales are high? Probably helped by Google pricing Pixels out of most Nexus owners price range.

As far as the rumours the OP MD has posted "Amoled >LCD" on the OP3 forum, which means he luck a right plonker if his firm now releases an updated OP3 with, by his own admission, an inferior screen.

12 Oct 16 1 #864
The Amoled part is true OP most likely had the rejects from OPPO like they did with the Oneplus One and now will have to source the units at full whack from Samsung which will cut into profits.
As for the SD821 that is unlikely Oxygens dev team has left and they are having enough problems merging their 2 OS's.
Other OEM's using Amoled panels don't seem to have an issue with supply and OP had already stopped sales across Europe because they supposedly ran out. It's all hype as per usual from these boys they ran out of stock on the OPO and the OP2 but didn't muster 4 million sales between them.
With Le Eco and Xiaomi releasing new devices, Pro 3,Mi5s/Plus, Note4, that are selling like hot cakes in the east, they have to stir up interest.
The whole sold out thing is rubbish all the Chinese Oem's use the just in time manufacturing method and don't hold any stocks whatsoever, they share OPPO's line along with Vivo and just build and ship when its their turn to use the line.
I would wait until they have sorted the OS and until when they do their $50 off promo, that will be just before of just after Xmas the price then will be where the device is at. Or like you said pick up a refurb if the price is right.
Every other SD820 driven device price has fallen except the OP3.

There's now a rival "One plus 3" (with a space) thread with links to reports claiming the phone will be withdrawn due to an AMOLED display shortage. My concern is whether or not they are supposed to be there!? Other people with op3 say they should be there yet they don't show on mines. Im just worried mines isn't working properly. If the way the interface is on mimes is the way its meant to be I can accept it or use a 3rd party app. But if it shouldn't be like that I really need to return the phone and time is running out hence I'd like clarity

What version of oxygenOS do you have? Maybe something went wrong if it was updated. I don't yet own a Oneplus 3 so can't say if this is normal. Seems like a strange problem to have if other users aren't experiencing the same issue.

I would try flashing the latest rom from Oneplus website - http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3/oneplus_3_oxygenos_3.2.6/

If you are not confident in flashing roms, i would suggest returning it and maybe buy another if this experience hasn't put you off.

Hope this helps.

ok first of all the fact i cant upload photos from my pc straight on here is a joke, second to the fact i've now to use an image hosting site when they deleted the link to the video i uploaded to a video hosting site.
can someone please help clarify this problem. i have tried a factory reset and it is still happening. i joined the op3 forum but cant make a thread until i reply to 5 posts but i have nothing to reply ....

when the screen is locked this is what appears when i get an incoming call:
https://s9.postimg.org/6i5lpk56z/op1.jpg
as you can see the red & green answer hang up options are not appearing

when the screen is unlocked this is what appears - a notification style type thing instead of it taking over the whole screen

I can't see any of the calls settings would affect the appearance of the dialer, as they only relate to the ring tones etc? hey guys something that's really bugging me about this op3 dont know if its just me or if its normal but when i recieve an incoming call when the screen is locked then it appears filling the whole screen wtih the phone in the middle. usually and on most past phones i've owned there is a red color phone to one side & a green color phone to the other and u swipe the phone in the middle either right or left depending on if u want to answer the call or not. but on the op3 there is no red or green phone until i actually press on the middle phone.
when the screen is awake the incoming call doesnt take over the whole screen, instead i just get a notification at the top of the screen.
is this normal???

I still think you specifically missed the sRGB settings, which will make a difference as mentioned in this article:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/10445/revisiting-the-oneplus-3/2

This is not easily accessible, unless you did what Topper1900 said:

"...enabling sRGB takes a bit of effort though as you have to turn on the developer mode by tapping the build mode 7 sides in settings, then enable sRGB mode in the Developer settings."

You still might not like it (as these things are subjective), but at least you would've viewed it with all the display options tweaked/changed.

If it's any help, I was told that when I tried to purchase from an O2 store initially, that they didn't have any in stock. I was speaking to the manager and asked why the website told me they had stock. They told me that stock was only for a contract handset and if I placed that order, I'd then get a message telling me they were out of stock and that stock should arrive the next week within 4 days.

I've no idea if this is the general rule for how O2 work as it seemed like I could order and pick up in an hour without issue, but the staff seemed confident they wouldn't be allowing anyone but those looking for a contract to get the handset and those that would have to wait (for the PAYG model) would be waiting for 4 days.

I'd speak to online staff if you don't get any info
I know! I'm really confused! I did my research- I knew graphics and the screen were important and I compared the specs on at least two websites as well as looked at other parts of the phone so I've no idea why I was looking at a faded and fuzzy picture whenever I looked at my screen. I will go back to a store to check things further. I did mess with the colour temperature and so on in the settings which helped a little but it was as if there was a missing colour or something- Blues were there, reds appeared orange and yellows were a bit blinding. I can't really describe more technically than that but being it was a big issue for me it was important enough for me to return. I'll wait for finding a working handset in a store and see what happens.

9 Oct 16 #788
I know there was an update on Marshmallow, I kept the phone for few days and it did update- I remember that, I didn't see any more detail or sharpness to the screen though. I did try messing with the extra settings which I did from the outset, after that I went and did a little digging elsewhere which is why I thought it best to return after a few "professional" reviews also mentioned the screen not being as sharp or colours as powerful. I'm not comparing to an S7, I'm coming from the point of a Huawei P8 lite which I was already a bit disappointed with, I'll try again this week- apparently Westfield may have a working model in as they launched the handset and if their models are better than what I had been using I'll write it off as having a dodgy handset and repurchase. Otherwise it's not for me.

I play Real Racing 3 a lot on both my OP3 and Samsung ProTab tablet and I can see there's any notable difference in the graphics, Plus since the recent OS update it runs as smooth, there might be a 10% difference with the S7 Edge but I'm sure it's worth paying double the price for the handset!
Topper1900

Just to add OnePlus tweeted last week they are already working on Nougat, they've already released a community build, for beta testers, with an update for Marshmallow in readiness for Nougat, they are promising changes in the background at OP will lead to faster updates so we may get later this year, one things for sure we won't have to wait for O2 to sign it off/test it as yoo with virtually every other Android phone!
Crossbow
9 Oct 16 1 #784
As mentioned before, they have already addressed the 'graphics' issue with updates to the current OS (so Nougat not needed). And also mentioned, what to do to access these extra settings which you probably never even tried. See mine & Topper1900's comments above.

I think he is referring to screen quality/colour representation rather than gaming graphics.

Also the s7 has an exynos cpu and a mali GPU in the UK (some other markets have the snapdragon/adreno combination).

In all fairness, the op3 uses the Adreno 530 gpu chipset which is the same as all the current flagships like the s7, HTC 10 and Google pixel, LG g5 etc

What sound? Calls or music or the apps own sounds themselves, can say that's happened to me or is a well known OP3 fault?

Surprised they've told you to take into, I assume, an O2 store given that most don't even know it's unlocked, so I doubt they'll help fix a potentially faulty handset? Try the OP3 website forum as there's plenty of users on there who'll try and help.

The phone's original OS didn't have the enhancements subsequent updates brought, which specifically addressed the display & memory issues (amongst others). I think this may be the main reason for your disappointment. Next time you have a look at the phone in the shop, go into the settings & check the OS version. Would also be ideal if they'd agree to update to the latest while you're there (worth an ask), so you can verify the changes before re-purchasing.

I'll be honest, I didn't want to like it, but have to admit this is a quality piece of kit. I compared the screen to my Note 4 and the display is brighter and I couldn't see any difference in quality.

Anandtech said with sRGB enabled its one of the best screens they have seen.

"To say that OnePlus's new sRGB mode provides a substantial improvement in display accuracy would be an understatement. The display has gone from being the most inaccurate display that I've seen in years, to being among the most accurate displays that we have on record. Gone is the ghastly blue shift, and even in the standard display mode OnePlus has toned that down significantly. The gamut matches sRGB very well, and both greyscale and color reproduction is right on target."

I'd still recommended this handset to anyone thinking of a new phone, no lags, no glitches or bugs I could see and very responsive. Maybe if they update to Nougat things might change but after reading a few "professional" reviews where they also noticed the graphics I'm loathed to try another to see if it was just a dodgy one.

Just to respond to those tasking about returning the handset.

I bought the handset outright on PAYG last Friday. I had to buy a £10 sim and didn't get a student discount.

I returned the handset today due to the graphics not being strong enough and it not having a radio.

I had no issues getting a refund on the handset, couldn't get a refund on the sim but didn't try either was just told it wasn't possible and accepted this as red.

More RAM and is more likely to add Nougat. On the otherhand the LG has a radio. No, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm actually going to return mine because I need a radio and don't want to carry it on a separate device.

Only other drawback on the Oneplus3 were the graphics. Seriously not as good, not sure where the comparison sites get their data but just can't see it as anything but a downgrade in terms of visuals when side by side with my Huawei P8 lite.
Was going to see if Nougat made the graphics any better but can't do without a radio.

don't think so, the way i tested it was that i made a few calls, talked to them for a bit and then put them on speaker, as soon as i put them on speaker they said voice quality/volume dropped and got choppy, then off the speaker and hold the phone to my ear and my voice becomes loud and clear and then put them on speaker and it gets choppy again.

tried in a few different locations and to different people, i think the problem is something to do with noise cancelling when on loudspeaker

just a quick review/comparison/opinion, got one to upgrade (downgrade?) from nexus 6

1. speakers are adequate for phone calls, YouTube etc, but nexus 6 speakers are much better as you would expect
2. screen is nice, bright and colorful but next to nexus 6 i can easily tell the difference, icons on home screen look less sharp and the same wallpaper looks worse on the oneplus.
3. oneplus is very fast
4. fingerprint sensor is very fast too
5. signal strength is very good
6. camera is better than nexus 6
7. build is better than nexus 6

the main problem i have is when i use speakerphone people complain that my voice is choppy and cant make out what im saying, but sounds good when off the speaker.

going to take it back and get a refund cause of the speakerphone issue, so wanted to get rid of my nexus 6 but seems like im going to be using it for a while longer till i find a better replacement.

First off, if I'm wearing rose tinted glasses when viewing my own phone it's okay as the adjustable white balance means I can offset it. The brown poo tinted ones you're wearing to view it with..not so easy.

We won't agree on this phone, but with all respect, I own this phone, I use it intensively for both work and personal use, whereas everything you know about this phone is from the internet. Which viewpoint do you think provides more accurate feedback? It's the same reason we can test drive a car before we buy, the what car review is one thing, driving it is another. Do I buy this or spend £10 more on a grade A perfect refurb iPhone 6 64gb with 12 month warranty from O2? I'm no Apple fan/slave but no doubt I could get used to it. Or do I spend £100 less on a 64gb Moto g4plus? (from reviews of both against each other, not quite as ridiculous as it first appears). A friend at work has the Oneplus and he loves it. OK so in case it helps anyone.

I picked up a screen protector from Amazon,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B017HB1FVC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
sits well on the screen, bit if you can get tabs to align it (as TechGear protectors do) this helps as there are none in the pack (or just use masking tape).
Don't bother with the TechGear type, they are not flat on the screen and the cleaning cloth was dried on mine.

I got a case. Also from Orzly,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01H5E3YOM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
fits with the phone case and there are no issues of the screen protector being in the way/too long or wide or anything.

Hope that helps someone.

Just to check... there's nothing stopping me buying the O2 PAYG model and then getting an EE contract for it?

And am I likely to encounter any issues with transferring my existing Orange number to that new EE contract, e.g. would it have to be transferred to O2 first?

Forgive my ignorance. Have simply had an Orange contract for ever and a day.

Only other way around it is to buy from OnePlus but as to when it arrives is anyones guess according to the website.

I just bought the PAYG model. Chalked up the £10 sim as it still undercuts other handsets with similar specs and am planning to keep it for using to access Priority Moments and etc if I see anything. I've tried using the sim credit for the Playstore but
1. I can't see anything I want and
2. Even things I could justify buying don't seem to allow me to purchase without using my credit/debit card or paypal.

Someone earlier managed to sort it so they could use the sim credit for their playstation account if that helps but as I don't have this it's wasted on me.

It is £336 including £10 PAYG top up. On refresh it is £336 + airtime contract. Having done the refresh cancellation thing to save a hundred quid twice on two iphone 6 perfect refurbs for the kids I can say the refresh route wouldn't be worth the extra effort (O2 over charge and need chasing up several times)

I noticed the subject of FM Radio on phones a few posts up, I think this is a highly underrated feature on phones and wish it was on more handsets.

I actually did a test tonight on my Moto X Play, left the FM radio on (data off, headphones on) and went out, have come back 8 hours later and it has only used 22% battery, that is pretty awesome, and pretty similar to results I would expect on my other handset that has FM radio,, my Z3 Compact (which has a stonger FM radio, very clear).

It's a great function to have and well worth keeping an eye out for.

I am not totally sure, but I have read that in a recent update the S7 has had its FM radio enabled, is this true in the UK ?

You may be correct, but you surely must compare the S7 edge as comparable screen size, not your smaller S7, and you ain't gonna get a S7 edge new for £440. Therefore this is somewhat of a bargain, and something which I'd consider as I'm after a 5.5" screen.

Before this I have had the Samsung S3 and then the S5. Both good phones for a few months, but then they slowed down so much. They were absolute garbage. That is the reason I went for this phone. I do not want to be a mug and have a sluggish S7 in 12 months time. It might well be that the same thing will happen with this, but at least I will have tried an alternative. As for the comment saying the screen is similar to the S4, it is quite an improvment on my S5. Not going to bother looking at the specs.

Unfortunately it seems people will just ignore what they don't want to hear in terms of issues with this device. People want to think they're getting a bargain at half the price of a Samsung flagship but just as good (no wait in fact even better as its not got TouchWiz!) when that clearly isn't the case.

Saying the Samsung is double the price is just one example of this tbh (I bought my s7 for £440 2 months ago, less than £100 more than this 'deal'). Another example is the fact that the screen in this is similar to a Samsung Galaxy s4 (obviously this one is bigger, but in terms of resolution and screen tech it's basically the same, also the ppi is lower due to it being a larger screen). Just leave people to it I guess, you're just wasting your time when people are looking at a device through rose tinted specs!

The Samsung can be had in several place on the web for £450-70 that is not twice the cost of a OP3. So your not looking in the right places.
Try any of the points i made and you will find out its pretty far from perfect. Even the most avid of fans on the forum all admit the OS is full of bugs and pants. You do know the screen is made by Samsung and its not one of their best, im not sure why you are comparing to your old samsung devices:|

Well after finding out the prices for Google's new pixel phone (£599 for pixel, £719 for pixel XL.) I can safely say Oneplus 3 here i come.

I find it shocking how these big companies like Apple, Samsung and now Google are charging extortionate prices for their phones.

I wish consumers would band together and not buy their products, forcing them to drop their silly prices but that will probably never happen. Sheep will be sheeps. Rant over.

Given Samsung are charging around £600, OP £329, don't you think the former has already built in a decent cushion to cover the 10%+ increased exchange rate cost due to Brexit? The fact OP increased their prices suggests margin are as tight as they claim or they wouldn't have been forced to increase their prices, they didn't in the states etc where it's still $399 as it was when it was released.

This is what I am waiting on to decide my choice! I still have the Oneplus3 and am allowed to return it up to 14 days after purchase. I have not opened it, am now waiting to see how the Pixel compares, if it has a SD slot and the price isn't too high that's it I'm probably pretty sold! I have not tried the Oneplus3 and if O2 had refunded the discount for having an NUS card I'd stay with this phone but they wont and their customer service on social media is pretty embarrassing.

I'm going to show my age here but the only thing I'm missing on handsets these days is a radio, ideally DAB but that being battery hungry an FM radio is enough. I know there are apps but I don't/can't afford tarriffs offering that much data!

I've been reading here the comparisons with the S7. I don't understand why people are comparing the s7 with this handset or the iphone- the reasons people go for those handsets are not the same as the reasons people would go for the Oneplus3, the iphone for example is so connected with apple and itunes etc (and dare I say it; the Apple label) without that without that a lot of it's functions and reasons for it being a "good phone" are lost, with the S7 things like having a flashy camera and glossy handset play a big part, I'm not saying these are the only reasons people go for the headline handsets but they play a major part in people I've seen and spoken with who have the handset- bring out the next iphone/Samsung handset? This is the ultimate killjoy and suddenly the "best phone in the world" becomes embarrassing and "old". Nothing to do with the function or even form of the handset, everything to do with the name and the label.
Again, not everyone is on that wavelength but a lot of people I know are. The are looking for a handset for different reasons and Samsung and Apple know this and so the cost is ramped up because of this. It's form over function. Hence when you compare the price and so on, you don't compare like with like.

And as much as I've looked, I cannot find either the new iphone or new Samsung handsets for anything less than £200 plus more. That's around 60% more for than the Oneplus3. Sorry but that isn't a small price increase; £350 isn't cheap, £550 is waaaaay higher! Unless I can see what that £200 extra will purchase, I don't see why those handsets are being used to compare here. If you are comparing, unless those you are posting to on here have no concerns over money, it would really help if there was a bit more similarity with price with what you are comparing with OR if it costs that much more, explaining why it was worth the extra, but don't just compare, trash the Oneplus3 and expect that this even makes sense- in my book it doesn't!

Thoeretical research and first hand experience are two different things. You have to try the phone. Having owned the phone since launch I can say that your points 1 and 2 are incorrect. I don't believe your comments are helpful to a consumer at all because they aren't based on anything that warrants the conviction you're pouring over them. I am also an owner, and this notion of an awful display is just plain and simply NOT TRUE and utterly misleading. Have you ever even seen this phone outside of internet searching?

The screen is an excellent 1080p AMOLED, it's sharp and the colours are great. Yes, a tad over saturated IMO but that works for app usage I think, only an issue if you want natural photo colours and the devs have kindly given me the sRGB option if I so want. I can easily change white balance of the screen too, I love this bad boy! If this is me on the hype train, then where is the buffet carriage because I'm staying on?!

Nobody is denying that the S7 isn't a fantastic phone, but value is just as important to many. I cannot justify the extra cost of it over this phone, the screen and camera (the two main areas that appeal) just don't offer enough value over the OP3. This is my opinion, and it wont be everybody's, but your arguments are unfair and inaccurate. I mean, where did this notion come from that this phone is really only for those that want to root and install custom ROMs come from? It's easy to do on a the OP3, but how is that a negative point?

For me this is an easy point to make, because I own this phone. I hate fanboys and I refuse to be one, I just happen to think based on use that this One Plus 3 is a fantastic phone. If that changes I will be happy to share, but as things stand all is well!

Fair play

I spend a lot of time researching my next phone, probably too much time in fact  but then I'm gonna be stuck with it for next 2 years at least so I certainly wouldn't buy/not buy a phone based on opinions on one forum.

One of my mates has an S7 and its a really nice phone, particularly the camera was very impressive in low light. I'm considering the S7 and also the HTC 10 but I have a HTC at moment and fancy a change

I can't afford to buy a phone outright, so would need to be on contract. The S7 and HTC 10 are quite expensive from O2 and a bit out of my price range, looking to spend no more than 25-30/month and the OP3 is prob best handset in that range. But Ive got till end of the year before I'm due an upgrade so maybe the prices might change.

I guess we all want the perfect phone that doesn't exist, so we settle for the phone that the most suited for our needs
rikz2004

Yeah, they are just opinions but based on researching the phone as a prospective customer. So it's information that I think would be useful for other potential customers (hence I shared it). It's not like I'm telling people not to buy.

Forums always tend to attract customers with issues those with none who have no real reason to post, I've had my OP3 for around 6 weeks and it's been perfect, apart from when OP released an update which broke Android Pay for 48 hours but was soon fixed by another update, if I still had my Samsung I'd probably be waiting months for O2 to release the uopdate.

Customer service doesn't seem to be the best but you'd hope that buying though O2 would give a customer some protection if things come to the worse.

The screen doesn't look to inferior to my Samsung phones/tablets and whilst the camera's not brilliant it's only a phone camera anyway not your daily shooter. When a Samsung S7 Edge costs nearly twice as much on Pay to Go it seems a bargain for similar performance/spec.

As for my device that went back when it could not hold Lte signals on 3, my old LG G4,G2 and Nexus 5 have no such issues. OIS is still broken and the constant refocusing on video recording also still not fixed, broken VR can not be fixed on devices already sold and will require build revision on new devices.
Bluetooth connectivity is still being reported as it always has been on all Oneplus devices if you read through the forum The list goes on.

Just my opinion..I prefer apple to android as they just seem to do things better/faster having owned all Iphones from 3gs to 6s and dozens of androids, I prefer HTC's to Samsung as I find them better to operate and less bug ridden, I hate Samsungs having had galaxy s4/5/6 the latter for the past year, I think they're just poor in general, I didn't mind the s6 too much but the constant crashing, signal dropping and refusing to come back without toggling airplane mode (on every galaxy i had) and having to charge 2/3 times daily with minimal-moderate use was beyond a joke. I just sold my s6 after 12 months to buy this and so far I'm very impressed, operates smoother and faster, unlocks faster, charges faster and side by side both the phone and the screen look far better IMO, I've had only a small amount of camera use so far but they seem fairly similar quality. Just my opinion as previously stated, just in case anyone cares.

To clarify, I'm not saying not to get this phone or that it's crap. What I'm saying is, like every phone, it has its pros and cons. People are saying it's better than x,y,z when that's clearly not true is wrong as a lot of people on this forum buy things based on other people's opinions. The person asking whether they should sell their iPhone 6s in favor of this phone highlights that (I've never had an iPhone and I'm an Android fan, but even to me it's clear to see that in all likelihood this would not be the right phone for them).

I have not owned the phone myself. I have friends who have owned the 1 and 2. Also I have read user forums and researched the phone enough to make my own informed decision, as I was actually considering buying this phone a few months ago.

If you have made an informed decision and decide this is the best phone for you that's fair enough and I respect that.

However, there are quite a few people in this thread that will be buying it because someone on the Internet told them it is a good deal. There are cons to this phone and that's what I'm trying to highlight to give people a more balanced view.

If you only want to spend exactly 346 then maybe this is the best phone for you. I'd rather spend 100 more for the s7 which is (in my opinion) substantially better. But that phone obviously will have cons too (but none that I care enough about, or I wouldn't have bought it).

Did you use for the phone yourself to have the opinion on the screen/text etc. What problems did you have that were not sorted by their customer support - these are genuine questions I'm not trying to wind anyone up I'm just interested in getting this device.

There are lots of opinions floating around this thread, overall the consensus is very positive about this phone. I know this is touted as a 'flagship killer' and many of the premium smartphone owners (Samsung/HTC etc) will say its not as good as that. Maybe they are right, but for the price I am struggling to justify the extra outlay on a premium device where this ticks all my boxes.

Personally, I flashed custom ROMs on almost all my phones so I have no issues with doing this, but from video reviews I think the OS looks ok as it is and I'll probably leave it stock till I get bored of it if I end up buying one.

There are a loads of similar spec Chinese phones on the market that are cheaper than this (maybe none with 6GB ram), but at least OnePlus are an established brand and their previous devices are pretty good imo. I don't think O2 would gamble their own reputation on a crappy brand that offered no ongoing support

Just 3 mins of 4K video equals to 1GB of space occupied. Decent set of maps of Europe for this holiday's trip - 5GB (as long as you're OK having no backup in case your map app breaks), one music album in passable quality is ~150-300 MB.... do you really think that if /you/ can't imagine someone that /needs/ more than 64 GB (how much of this gets occupied by OS itself?) that means no one can?

The hype around this deal seems ridiculous! It also seems that a lot of people jumped on the hype train and have/will soon regret their purchase!

I researched this phone a lot before purchasing my current phone and did not buy for a few reasons.
1. The camera is not great (not rubbish, but not that great).
2. The screen is poor (due to only two pixels per subpixel, there is only an effective resolution in red or blue of less than 720p!). Also the colours aren't great and are washed out. On a phone touted as flagship killer its not really acceptable. You'd expect this kind of screen on a cheap chinese phone.
3. The support is poor, and the quality control isn't up to standard. The likelihood of receiving a handset with some sort of issue is quite high. Also there are several software bugs.

From what I can tell, this is a phone that is aimed at people that want to root and install custom roms etc. If you do not want to do that, this isn't the phone for you.

Also the main thing on a phone is the screen. It may be lightening fast but if it doesn't display content very well, what is the point?! For example, even text is displayed fairly poorly on this phone!

I saw one user in this thread contemplating selling an iPhone 6s for this - don't be stupid is all I can say. Yes this is better "value" in some people's opinions (depending on whether you can live with it) but it is certainly not better than an iPhone 6s/7 or Samsung s6/s7 or HTC 10. The premium phones are premium for a reason.

There isn't a huge gap in the price of this and an sgs7 (which is essentially better in every way). Yes some people don't like TouchWiz (although they're the same people that say you can install custom rooms etc, yet changing from TouchWiz to a different launcher is too much of an "issue" for them). I bought mine for £440 2-3 months ago. Might be something worth considering before you purchase.

I think you are very much mistaken, bug fixes (the issues to which I referred) are regularly addressed. My phone signal is rock solid, I use Bluetooth everyday with my Android Wear watch. The last update (it's called this because it contains enhancements to the original feature set) certainly addressed the camera and video focus issue. Do you still have the phone or just randomly firing off?

The Nexus 5x story is a long one. I found mine was slow and laggy, the camera was a notable source of this issue, sometimes causing the phone to just freeze. The tipping point was when its battery died and I had to use my wife's Sony Z3 (a hand me down from me) to find something on Google Maps. Instantly I noticed a difference in how responsive and fast it was compared to the 5x. Something was not right! I then found the problem to pretty widespread, at least forum complaints suggested this. In early in the year google released a patch in direct response to the reported issues. It worked, but it was short lived. I'd eventually tried every fix I could find, then the OP3 arrived and I jumped ship. So glad I did. I know many 5x users didn't get any such issues, I would see an equal number of counter arguments, so I believe that not all phone were affected. I'm still peeved at it now!

Edit - I would say that if you have a good Nexus 5x, then yes you will find the screen much better on the OnePlus. Also, the OP3 has far better build quality and a much better camera (though my 5x lagtastic experience may be making be biased). Hope that helps.

Please post back if you do, have been trying this (also paid full PAYG price and had to waste a further £10 on a sim) was told no and got different types of no depending on whatever store. I am a student with an NUS, no discounts...etc.....if you can be bothered I wrote a reply a page or so ago explaining to someone else everything I'd worked out.

Am in two minds about taking it back for a full refund, just waiting to see if the new Nexus/Pixel is any better for me, if it is I'll be refunding what I have Wednesday.

So I have a new one, set up with two Sims, o2 and talkmobile. got 2% quidco tracking and 1% cash back on my credit card. ordered online, so the SIM was free, but I have activated it to make sure I can get tech help and no issues with the maintenance of the phone if it goes wrong. I will use the credit for the SIM next month when I go abroad (£10 credit lasts for all time if you use the phone once ever few months if you choose the correct SIM). Had some issues setting the talkmobile SIM for internet, had to get tech from talkmobile to manually set it up. Phone allows you to set preferences for each SIM or even turn one off etc.

Phone is very good, battery seems OK, great deal, as I was a couple of days away from being this phone direct from op, but this way I get a free years cover with my purchase through my bank account.

Get this if you can.

Apparently (before 02 started to be difficult) people were able to buy the handset outright and a sim only contract (costing nothing but the handset price at first) then cancelling the sim and keeping the handset. They also were able to get a 10% student discount applied.

O2 are now acting like fools and although this handset also exists on a PAYG mode too (but you either need an O2 sim or you are forced to buy a £10 o2 sim at the same time- they will check your O2 number is valid and ask security questions to check you know the details of the account in question eg start date, way it's paid, bundles and so on, know your stuff or you have to buy a sim from them).

However- like I say, O2 are playing silly beggers because if you now want to get the PAYG handset you need to wait a while, even if you try ordering online and it states you can pick up from the store in an hour, if you get to the store you will be turned away and told it will take up to 2 weeks to apply and they'll get back to you on exactly when it is delivered (I was told this by a manager of an o2 store I visited yesterday which showed as having stock). Stock instores is apparently only for contracts and the most you can pay for the handset is £120 with around £18? on a contract for 2 years. Fact is you can get the handset without a contract or pay in full for the handset and get a sim only contract, they just don't want you to know this.

If you have a discount, I was told it is not available on new phones, or that it's only available on air time or that it is not available at all don't know what your on about etc etc. The rules change per store as does the stock availability when they find out your after the PAYG model.

If you can be bothered to wait a few weeks, you can order from the Oneplus website and save yourself £20 odd but as to when it arrives is anyone's guess, some people on the site's forum report waiting 4 days, others report a month or more. The company don't seem to know either way on dates.
Apparently the customer service with o2 is better than the Oneplus people but given my experience of different rules for different fools I'm starting to think this is wrong. I have contacted O2 on twitter but they appear to be unable to read as they have asked daft questions which have nothing to do with my question and took 24 hours to get back to me. If Oneplus can get their distribution sorted I would advise ignoring O2 and going straight to them to order.

Is this pay as you go? or you have to make a contract?

I asked in store and they said it's contract only for 2 years.... has anyone taken the offer?

2 Oct 16 #600
OK so I'm trying to work out what I do with this extra sim. I have no need for an O2 sim but I had to buy it to get the handset on PAYG from a store (and even that wasn't easy). I have now been told they are only selling contract handsets instore (no discount- only discounts on air time) and sim only contracts or PAYG handsets wont be available for 10-14 days. I was going to return the whole lot but owing to another long story elsewhere I was housebound yesterday (thanks Amazon for screwing me over!)

Either I return the handset and sim (full refund) or I make use of it. I thought I'd think about what I can do with a £10 sim. I have a GiffGaff sim otherwise so the whole locking thing doesn't really apply here (I think?)

1. I could use the sim to access Priority Moments (obviously wait until a decent deal starts to do this)
2. I could use the credit attached to the sim to buy things in the Play Store on my account (does anyone know if this is actually possible?)
3. Could I use this for other in-app purchases? (Eg Spotify, Amazon/Amazon Music, etc etc)

Has anyone any experience at all of this or know for sure what can be done with a sim with £10 on providing I don't use it to purchase a bundle and only stick to using the handset with that sim in on wifi?

Topper1900
2 Oct 16 1 #596
Look on OP as the new contenders on the block, a bit like Samsung were when they brought out the first Samsung Galaxy to compete with the iPhone, a company selling good quality handsets at half the price. Given most top quality smartphones all now use the same Snapdragon 820 processor you can't really go wrong with the OP3 if O2 are prepared to support the phone with a decent warranty.

There's also the advantage that the phone is unlocked so any software updates can be obtained the day they are released by OP, not wait until O2 decide to release them sometimes months later. This could be a game changing phone if OP can keep up with demand.
Topper1900
2 Oct 16 1 #595
Quoting and user experience seem something different for Nexus? I can confirm the videos shown online are correct for the OP3, nothing beats this at present for fast charging, plus DASH charging takes place manly in the plug so that heats up rather than the phone, which must be good for the long term battery life.

No, outer box didn't have the wrapping that the replacement had. Also didn't have the NFC sticker on the back.

Went to Leeds Trinity tonight and swapped it, after speaking to Meadowhall (waste of time, fobbed me off and basically told me "there's no fault I can put it down as", even though the phone couldn't be used!), Leeds were fantastic and did everything they could to help me.

Interestingly, that's not the store where I purchased it, but I called them and explained and they told me to come in. While I was in there, someone asked about the OP3!

Apparently it's doing really well, although to non customers from a thread on the internet - no idea where that could be...

In my experience, they don't last long (as in days/weeks) they also don't protect from scratches against anything more aggressive than being sneezed at. Try it if you want, but it's your loss if it doesn't protect against things like grit, being left face downwards on a table or being found at the bottom of your bag alongside your keys (keys have a secret magnetic ability to find and adhere to your phone, screen first.)

Has anyone been able to clarify the payg discount further? I spoke to live chat and the agent said speak to the staff in-store. I said I had already done that at all 3 local stores and they had refused to apply the discount despite me having proof it is possible to apply it thriugh the system as 2 diffent people in different parts of the country had received it today.
Selective discount for customers not acceptable from what's mean to be a reputable retailer.

I don't agree entirely with your statement, as it implies that the OP3 sceen looks poor once next to an S7. By total chance I sat it down next to my friends S7 Edge just a few hours ago, it's the second time I've done this comparison. Yes, the S7 has a better display, but it's not groundbreaking better, just slightly better. Interestingly though, the white balance was slightly better on my Oneplus 3, but to be honest that's neither here nor there, just an observation. Get a 4k image and things do change, a lot. But it's not exactly the norm for what you'll be viewing on the screen.

Finally, the S7 camera. That is VERY good, I must say. He showed me some low light shots he took in London, very impressive. Not that the One plus has a bad camera, it's actually pretty decent, but the S7 has a bit of wow about it. Still, it's not worth it for me personally, the oneplus 3 still bats it out the park on a value basis.

I can confirm the Student Discount does work!

Went into the O2 New Street store in Birmingham, asked about the phone and student discount... Guy said we don't do student discounts but if you work for certain companies you can get a 10% discount. (Called O2 Open I believe) Unfortunately, the company I work for wasn't on that list, but my brothers company was on there. So I said I'll bring my brother in, and the guy said he'll check to see how to apply it and process it and lo and behold he finds the 10% student discount on the system as well.

None of the other staff were aware of this student discount so it's defo worth going in and asking them to check on the system.

Ended up paying £312.40 inclusive of the compulsory top up, but the hero who served me gave that to me as a voucher so could potentially sell that to whoever making the effective cost £302.40!

Hope this helps, I've attached the receipt as well!

Based on samples I've seen the OnePlus 3 captures much more detail and exposure is generally better

iPhone 7 camera was compared recently to the Galaxy S7 on Phonearena and it wasn't even close, iPhone 7 shots were very dark and lacked detail while the Galaxy S7 shots were bright, vibrant and detailed.

Now when the OnePlus 3 was compared to the Galaxy S7 it actually did better than the Galaxy S7 in some cases with better exposure, detail and more natural colours.

iPhone 7 camera is below average for 2016, I can't believe they haven't fixed the yellow tint yet, it's been like that for how many generations now ? very poor from Apple.

I'd rather have the camera off the old Galaxy S6 than the iPhone 7.

OK, so I'm looking at this phone and it looks like a good idea given that I need a new handset and this looks better than my current one by far.

I'm a little confused about the best way to purchase so if anyone has any answers- please help!

I am a student and have an NUS Extra card- (I don't however have a Unidays account as my college don't give photo ID so I can't get an account with them). Is it true there are discounts and how do you get them applied?

I currently have a GiffGaff sim and don't really want to give this up. Will I be able to use the sim or will I have to pay to unlock given that O2 seem to have some sort of hold on GiffGaff.

I am reading that due to distance selling regulations it's worth buying online- but does this cost more and if so how much more? I am in London and can get to an O2 store easily so there is little point in paying extra if I'm not really going to return it unless it's faulty.

If anyone knows- if you have to get an O2 sim, can this be sold on ebay as a credit or is it only good as a sim?

I know about the contract/refresh thing but I'm not sure I'll be accepted (poor credit score). If I am, is this cheaper and how do you go about setting this up (I've not had a contract for well over a decade!) eg; will I need ID and so on if I am buying from a store?

I had a look at a model on London Oxford Street. Felt nice in the hand, premium feel, beautiful screen, blended glass to metal body. Liked the sturdy button positions. Snappy OS, camera seemed fine, snapped a few shots in the shop and there was no lag from pressing the shutter to taking the shot. Very nice phone. Sales person said it was contract only. Suggested I try other stores (they had four in today and sold them). Lovely phone and you'll certainly want to buy a case.
wenttoabetterplace
29 Sep 16 #442
Remember that you can also cancel the Refresh contract at any time...so it's not like you're tied into a proper contract. You just have to pay off the device plan and cancel the airtime. No penalty for doing so.

You should also take a look at Life Mobile via USwitch. Runs on and owned by EE - better allowances than GiffGaff ... and half the price per month on a monthly contract.

Just anecdotal evidence from having looked at various videos. In fact, that SuperSaf video demonstrates the iPhone's improved OIS vs the Galaxy. You can also see it in the following video at around 8 minutes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3avakDaWDYU

Don't get me wrong, the Galaxy is a great cameraphone. But the iPhone delivers a cleaner/more colour realistic image....and it is far better at adapting to changing lighting. (That's not to say it is better in low light - because it isn't! But in normal light, it gives a nicer/less contrasty/less digital image). I dare say the video footage would also serve as a better base for colour grading.

Samsung definitely has better audio and low light photos though. & if you like contrasty/sharpened photos, then it takes better photos too.

I went to O2 store in Swindon Town Centre today, hoping to try the phone out and check how it feels in the hand. I was immediately caught by this O2 sale advisor before I even had a chance to have a look around. I said I am looking for oneplus 3 which was supposed to be available in store from Today. She looked at me like I was speaking to her in language unknown to mankind. She replied: Samsung? I looked at her and said: No, oneplus is the make and 3 is the model. She had absolutely no idea about the phone despite it being offered on O2 website. Anyway, they did not have any in store. And when I asked if she could check when it is going to be available in store, her reply was: it will be available when it is delivered. Ok, but when exactly? She repeated previous sentence. ... WTF? SO apparetnly i work for a company who is elegible for the o2 open discount.
which means I could get the op3 on refresh tarrif unltd calls & text with 3gb data for around 31 per month on 24 month contract. not bad at all.
HOWEVER i could buy it for 336 outright and stick to my giffgaff sim which is currently 12 per month and over 2 years that'd work out to 26ish per month, although its less mins but i get free gg-gg (which my family members are on) and i know there will be no unexpected bills.
of course the airtime plan could and probably will rise per year. of course giffgaff could increase their price too BUT at least with giffgaff i can leave when i please i'm not tied into anything.

Joking aside, was seriously considering ordering one of these and then saw this thread today. I would probably want to run it on EE 4G, though I'd consider others. O2 in store seemed to be saying I would need to buy the phone with their Refresh, then ring up and cancel it 24 hours later. Then I guess go to (say) EE, terminate my existing Orange contract and get a sim only deal from them.

Have I got the process right? And would I be better ordering from One Plus directly instead? Or choosing a different 4G provider? Advice welcome.

O2 CS are wrong as OP's own MD confirmed on Reddit AMA on Wednesday it's not locked and doesn't have any O2 bloat ware, regardless, given OP are happy for you to unlock the bootloader you could soon download a different ROM anyway, making locking the phone to O2 fairly pointless.

It would be interesting to know how O2 intend dealing with warranty claims etc, as surely returning the phone to OP and thenwaiting a month or so isn't going ro go down well with their customers?

This is a great phone to own given the price, virtually a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for half the price, just look at YouTube speed tests, it even destroys the Note 7.

No high end smartphone has THE best camera. The Lumia 950/XL take the best photos. The iPhone 7 Plus has the best optical image stabilisation in video. The Galaxy S7/Note 7 have the best audio.
Also, you say the iPhone delivers the most underexposed footage - but from what I can tell and in the reviews I have read, it delivers a consistently accurate interpretation of the real scene.

All depends what you look for in a camera. But what is absolutely certain is that the OnePlus 3 isn't even close with its camera.

so you rather save £7 and buy from Oneplus, wait 4 weeks (current ETA), then post back to one plus if there are any issues with it?

That still requires the phone to be sent to OnePlus for repair (Germany for Europe) and for o2 and OnePlus and communicate effectively, trust me they won't be repairing anything in a reasonable time.

I hope o2 are aware how many complaints they're going to get from selling this device.

Kind of annoying that the best smartphone cameras in the world are on the iPhone (WAY too expensive), Lumia 950 (irrelevant), and the Galaxy S7 (touchwiz/too expensive for an Android).

Guys just bought the phone from a store. I have your answers.

1) This is the FIRST unlocked phone O2 have ever sold. Confirmed.
2) The price is £336 + a required pay as you go SIM (min £10 topup)
3) The phone has dual sim.

Collected from O2 shop, wouldn't budge on £10 PAYG sim card. Now at home with my Three chip installed, all working fine.

This is the exact reason I bought it online. I got stung by Currys a few months ago - went to return something I bought in-shop and because it was open, they refused as it had to be "unopened, as new".

Ordering online always gets you some cover with DSR.

Ive just bitten the bullet and bought it online with delivery tomorrow. Pickup in store, had to wait for October 1st... 14 days no hassle return they say  so I can test it and if its locked or branded will return. I called the shop in the O2 Arena and they told me that you have to buy it with a 10£ sim in shop due to policies. So I pay you £336 for buying the phone?....It also has a top of £10 for the sim....'Oh I don't need a sim...' Mmmm... the top up has to be there with the phone....I already have a sim. I don't need another one.. Why should I be forced to buy something I don't need..Mmmm phone is for £346 now!...But you just said its £336 plus £10 for sim...Nope phone is for £346 now...and its locked to O2 !!! £32p/m on contract for 1GB data seems quite steep to me (u/l texts & mins). If phone is £336, this equates to £18p/m for the 1GB tarriff which is not that great.

Totally agree with the above. Phone is great. Used Samsung's and Sony's and this phone is excellent, icing on the cake is dual sim's (home and work) or whatever. Phone is highly responsive, great camera. Couple of downsides are no memory card slot and Full HD display, but phone comes with 64gb of internal memory and display is still excellent - Personally I don't see why you need that many pixels on such a small screen in any case - its just overkill!

They are based in China. Many of their production costs will be in Yuan. If you want to refer to the US Dollar, then it went from about $1.45 to $1.32 (and even as low as $1.29). Pretty much the same exchange loss on GBP.
TheUrbis
28 Sep 16 1 #304
Same applies.

1GBP = $1.48 pre-Brexit (day before).

Today:

1GBP = $1.30

So, in USA, it's $399...

Pre-Brexit, that would have been £269.59, today that's £306.92 - still $399, but shows the £ is worth nothing.

So stepped into the Gloucester O2 store, they had a display model.
The staff were unable to find out a handset or contract tariff price on their system. What they did advise was that on PAYG they want £336.
No one there seemed to have much info.

I've already had two of these oneplus 3s and had to return both due to a screen uniformity issue (which was even worse on the replacement oneplus 3).
The phone itself was pretty awesome for my needs and for the limited amount of time I had to use it.

Little maths and economics lesson for you...

GBP -> Chinese Yuan pre Brexit.....9.8 Yuan = £1
GBP - Chinese Yuan post Brexit....8.8 Yuan = £1

This is a decrease in value of the £ of c10%
Therefore you'd expect the price in GBP to have increased by 10%. So, it should have risen from £309 to £340.
I'm guessing Oneplus hedge some of their currency cashflows, and have therefore been able to swallow some of the relative increase in GBP price, hence why its only £329 and not £340.

I got a OnePlus One 64gb since the early launch. Hardware-wise, it is superb value, but not very impress with their software. Too many bugs especially on touch screen and battery issue. The issues fixed on one update, but re-appeared on the next update. Got one point I almost give up because I cannot typing a complete sentence without the need to make spelling correction due to touch screen issue. Also need root to fix the mic volume to usable level in Whatsapp. Couldnt connect to certain wifi although my other devices are connecting fine. One good thing is until early this month, I still receive the security update. Most issues have been fixed and the phone is pretty stable now after 2 years since its launch, but occationally I still got the phone random reboot itself.

Just my experience with OnePlus One, although might not relevent to this 3rd gen phone.

I've been looking at it, wanted to switch to it from a two year old iPhone 6 Plus. What kept me away is the camera performance which is while good on numbers, unfortunately doesn't match my old phone :disappointed: This is literally the only reason I didn't go for it

This is the only thing that's preventing me from buying. I have a Three Pay Monthly contract for personal use and a Vodafone Pay Monthly for work. Is it the fact Three sim was PAYG that was the root cause of the issue, or am I likely to encounter something similar? Thanks
TheUrbis
28 Sep 16 #261
Nope. That ended years ago.

I use EE as my main SIM, but I have a 3 PAYG SIM for when I'm traveling, I can't use the 3 SIM as a second SIM due to the lack of 2G support.

Hence you can't use a 3 SIM in a non 3G phone.

No it's not. 1440p screens aren't the drain they were on the LG G3. SoC's can easily power them now and the panel tech itself has been developed so they're more power efficient than a 1080p panel. Take Samsung for example, power efficiency of the panel in the Note 5 increased 21% from the 2014 Note 4, and 56% from two years before that if you were coming from the Note 3.

1080p screens aren't going to see these kind of gains as they're not being developed at the same rate as 1440p ones.

The laughing was more based on this being a "deal". I agree it pays to check some of these things like locked status but other things like the fact its a dual sim phone and it was confirmed it was dual sim is quite funny.

As for your "dig" on the number of deals I've posted, there is a very good reason for that. The voting system on this site is flawed and open to all sorts of abuse. Setting aside that people vote for all manner of reasons, rarely because its a good deal. More often than not it comes down to the fact that they hate / like a brand or hate / like a product. Often something they have never owned, often something they'd never consider buying.

Take this "deal" as an example. One Plus 3 for the same price you can buy it direct from the manufacturer, identical phone. Saving = £0. Reaches 1100C+ in a day. Reason: Its a phone, people in this country love their phones.

Compare that to the Dyson deal I posted. Saving of around £100 or £140 if you are a previous Dyson owner gets to -155C. Sure people don't like Dyson as a person, company, brand, don't like spending that sort of money on a vacuum great, but that isn't how people should be voting on a site called "hot uk deals". As a deal with a decent % saving is how you should vote imho. It is how I've always voted and it is why I voted cold on this even though I'm a One Plus 3 owner who really likes the product. It just isn't a deal.

So that is why in 7 years I've posted 9 deals. When I see a product on offer for a decent discount I'd have to consider the brand, the hate for the brand or product before even bothering. Sometimes I think screw it (as I did with the Dyson deal) and put it up to try and help out someone who is in the market anyways, but cold deals rarely get seen unless you specifically search for them.

Just to add my voice, saying this is a great phone.

Bought it direct from OnePlus shortly after release, having had the OP1 and OP2 (both of which a friend has bought.... and is really happy with them).

I don't make many phone calls... I have it for:

a) calls in an emergency
b) enabling me to be accessible as necessary
c) photography
d) internet access (for work and play)
d) mobile hotspot for my iPad.

PROS

a) beautifully-made
b) easy to operate (relatively!)
c) bloat ware free
d) very fast
e) dual SIM
f) half the price of the top-tier phones.. but comparable standard (give and take a little)
g) very, very fast charging (30 mins gives you a useful 80%)

CONS

I wanted to use the phone as a mobile mifi modem (I have a huge data package from EE, courtesy of HUK deals). But I also wanted a PAYG package from Three. Unfortunately, these two SIM cards don't play together well. The Three SIM card takes over the whole phone and won't let me use the EE data-only SIM. I've replaced the Three SIM with an EE PAYG ... and they work happily together. (The EE data only SIM will actually allow me to receive phone calls too.... which is an added bonus). This incompatibility issue is discussed on various online forums..... There is a solution..... but I didn't fancy the tinkering involved....).

I'm sharing this because I want to add my voice, giving a very definite thumbs-up for this phone.

Previous phones: OP2, OP1, Nexus 5, Samsung Note.... plus various cheap feature phones..

Got to laugh at this "deal", especially the OPs post.

No Bloat: It will be running the same OS as one from One Plus
Unlocked: They are unlocked as standard
Confirmed to be Dual Sim: *Shocker* The only version they make is dual sim
Confirmed to be Unbranded: *Facepalm* see above!

I fail to see this as a deal, it isn't any cheaper. Sure you get easier returns and a shorter lead time for shipping, but that doesn't make it a deal, that just makes it more convenient.

As much as I love my One Plus 3 I've voted cold as this isn't a deal in any sense of the word.

I like the size of the z3c so I would have naturally got the x compact but im underwhelmed by the specs, so have been looking at larger devices, specifically OP3 and LG G5. Im just a bit worried they'll annoy me being less pocketable. The galaxy s7 is a nicer size but much more expensive.

28 Sep 16 #225
Perhaps a slight exaggeration on my part, but whilst O2 will handle the device, after 30 days they have no requirement to handle it instore, i.e on the spot replacement. Past that they will ship it to their repair centres, or more likely back it off to OP which is more the concern - their service is awful. Also worth noting if during this time O2 are under no obligation to provide a loan phone.

Not worth the hassle IMO.

Because the LG G4 screen was not great tbh. While OP3 has a better screen than G4 it is not comparable with samsung or apple for text. Got rid of my Tab S 8.4 for that reason, also Touchwiz, which I'm sure made it laggier that it ought to have been, and the ridiculous amount of bloatware which ate way too much of the 16gb on-board memory. Shame, because it had I think a great and I believe still unsurpassed screen. I won't touch Samsung now - and that's after owning and loving the Galaxy S2 phone, which I thought was genuinely groundbreaking at the time.

Just after I got rid of the Tab S, I'm sure it was announced that it would be getting Marshmallow, though (ironic as Nougat will be rolling out to a lot of devices in the near future)

Back to the OP3. It did have niggly issues shortly after launch, but they have been largely ironed out with regular updates. having owned the LG G4 before this device, I couldn't really notice the "downgrade" in screen resolution. What I did really notice was the much better battery life, which I thought was frankly rubbish on the G4.

Those high-res screens, which add very little to real-world usability as your eyes can't tell the difference (except maybe for VR, which I don't use) sure do drain the battery a lot quicker.

The OP3 is slicker than slick, the fingerprint sensor is sensational, and i can live with 64gb of memory. Perhaps the only thing missing now is waterproofing compared to the flagships, and I can live with that for around a £400 saving.

I called a couple of O2 stores today, just give you some ideas of where to get it tomorrow. NONE of staff in O2 stores knows about Oneplus 3.

One O2 store staff said "What is that? oh, it is a mobile phone. Sorry, we don't sell them",

Others are more knowledgeable, "It is a Chinese phone, we don't deal with them"

But the usual responses are, "No, I never heard of it, so we probably don't sell them"

Good luck getting one tomorrow.

EDIT: OK, one store actually knows about it, they say they won't be getting any stock until next month, here you go another month of waiting.

6p 64gb.

Bored of it? It's a phone?!?!? For me, it's a functional device. The screen is great IMHO. Ditto the camera. It does everything I need it to. Well. And battery life is excellent.

Not sure what other features are "much better" on your S7? Water resistance maybe. Can't think of anything much other than that? The screen is smaller on the s7 for a start. And I prefer a larger screen being a former Note user. The SD slot would be nice. But with 64gb, I can live without it.

But, more to the point for me, I just want it to last. There was nothing wrong with my Note 3 in terms of hardware. I was still plenty happy with it. But Samsung just stopped supporting it. My OH has an S5. After just over a YEAR wait, it finally got Marshmallow. I have a Tab S (as I say, flagship when I bought it), never had a SINGLE update (major one). Not one. It's still stuck on their (awful) Lollipop build. That's not acceptable.

My 6p? Nougat came out, I had it on the phone the same day. And yes, it'll stop getting updates eventually, but it'll get them longer, and quicker, than probably any non-Nexus phone. You got Nougat on the S7 yet? Nope. You likely to this year? Nope. When will you? It's Samsung, so God knows!

So I guess it's what you want? If you MUST have the newest phone constantly? Fair enough. But if you'd rather pay once for a good phone, and then have it last more than 6-12 months before updates become horribly slow or non-existent, then I wouldn't recommend anything but a Nexus now.

Phone hardware is good enough now that most people don't really need a new phone every 6-12 months. Those that do are mostly doing it for vanity reasons. So I'd rather get faster, long term, support.

Oh yeah, and if the fingerprint sensor for the Samsungs is still on the home button, it's garbage! The one of the back of the 6p is much better positioned! :stuck_out_tongue:

no SD is a deal-breaker for me despite the 64GB

why? - well if that internal 64GB goes kaput, then you loose everything!

if it had a SD, then one will occasionally be transferring important pics and/or other files for safe-keeping on a microsd card, also sending files to the phone via bluetooth or even wireless will be a pain too.

Maybe hold out for the LG G5 price drop? It's inevitable it will happen, pretty much like the G4 and G2 before it... The battery and camera are deal breakers for me. I can cope with a 1080p screen, loved it on my G2 and if it means more battery life, which it usually does then that's a plus for me.

I prefer the Axon 7 over this but I think the Axon 7 will be slightly more expensive, rumours tell of prices of around £359...But there is still no word on UK stock of the Axon 7 so debating if I can cope with downgrading to 1080p from 1440p (coming from a LG G3) and losing my sd card. Plus this is a $400 phone for which we are being ripped off on once again. This should be £307 at current exchange rates. This is standard price so not really a deal as such...

i assume you have a Nexus 6p or 5x yes?

i had a 6p and found it boring tbh, yes Vanilla Android is nice...for a while... then i started to put ROMs on it left right and centre, again got bored of it

the screen isnt very good (they used a low quality screen) on the 6p and the camera not all that

i now have a S7 Edge and its much better than the 6p (Camera, battery, screen, features), i don't use the Edge at all, only got the model for larger battery and hit 7 hrs SoT many times.

back to topic as said many times, the OP3 is best phone around for the £329 price mark, order from O2 or Oneplus you get 14 days to try before sending it back so nothing to lose!

only reason why i don't own a OP3 is the camera and wifi calling, both important to me.

(I was a long-time Samsung phone user, but finally gave up last year once the wait for updates started extending beyond months and into years. They are horrendous for this now. Nexus all the way now. Still got a Samsung tablet. A flagship one. And it's stuck on Lollipop. I won't be buying another one ....)

If you want updates reasonably quickly and aren't interested in rooting and downloading your own ROMs steer clear of OP, they're very slow to release them.

By contrast (G4 user) LG are one of the fastest and have already laid out their intentions. It may not be important to you, but worth considering.

Also, after sales wise OP are still terrible, particularly if you're used to Apple standards of care. I also would take too much comfort in buying it from O2, yes, without 28 days you can chuck it back to O2, after that you'll be dealing with OP direct and subject to their horrendous turn around.

Much better off with a G5, 5X or Redmi IMO.

Just about the only issue I have with OP3 is that I just can't find a decent tempered glass screen protector for it. Oneplus do a curved one, but it's been out of stock for weeks. Because the device has a curved edge, most protectors leave a gap of a few mm all the way round.

To be fair, I could write a pretty long list, too, if I compiled ALL the reports of ANYTHING wrong with the S7, or the iPhone 7 etc. While it's nice of you to compile a list of 'things that could possibly go wrong', these aren't realistic issues. Personally, I have no issues with signal, Bluetooth, screen, reboots, WIFI, battery, Facebook, notifications etc. What I HAVE got issues with are SnapChat not working well (although SnapChat is a terribly optimised app.), and the OIS when recording video in 4K.

Finally, if you seriously think that the phone coming with a pre-applied screen protector is an 'issue' then you are the one with issues. Don't like it? Buy another and put that on! Until then, be thankful you have something protecting your screen!

Not sure about the Lumia. The iPhone may hold its value more so than the OnePlus but that's a whole new ecosystem to get to grips with.

Maybe check on YouTube for camera tweaks. I'm guessing that software could play a part in improving the quality of images but that's down to updates being g pumped out. You could of course try a third party app but nothing is guaranteed. I would say however this is a step up and then some compared to your current phone.

6gb RAM(!) means its app performance is snappy every time.
Groovii D
28 Sep 16 #142
Might be interested in this, but concerned by the poor camera reviews and comments.

Do you think the camera performance is hardware or software related and would a 3rd party camera app improve things.

I've had flagship phones in the past, but for just over a year I've had a Smart Ultra 6. Which has been disappointing. Camera is poor, 3g/4g slow, very slow in fact. Seam to hijack data too. Could be a Google thing. Great value though. I don't want to find myself in the same boat with my next phone.

On contract with o2 and they've just offered me unlimited text/calls 10gb data to stay with them, so tempted to go for a deal on this phone. But then they have an iPhone 6s plus like new for a similar price. Or even considering a Windows 950xl

Top quality phone. Got it as a replacement for my Samsung S7 edge which I lost on holiday. Having had every single galaxy since the S2 I must admit I'm something of a Samsung fan boy when it comes to smartphones but I can safely say I'm not missing it at all. This phone is super fast and does everything the Samsung would do at nearly half the cost. Quick charge on it is rapid. Also the finger print reader is quickest I've ever come across any phone and you don't even need to click it unlike Samsung you just place your finger over it and VOILA!! The Amoled screen on this is on par with the S7. If your looking for a top spec premium Android phone look no further this phone is amazing. Really can't believe how good value for money it is. Wonder if o2 will honour warranty if you brick due to flashing custom ROM? I've had op2 since launch and its a great modders device knowing you can root and flash without voiding warranty. Yes, I miss an awesome camera but can't justify inflated prices of market leaders. I think its wrong to compare these to £500 phones but you won't find a better phone for same price.

Have to agree with OP criticism. I was all aboard the OPO hype train when it first arrived but over the past couple of years this phone has been a pain. Huge delays on software but the main gripe is data connection. If I ever go to a different part of the country (or just a different part of my home city) I will often lose data, despite others with me being on exactly the same network. The phone will only reconnect to data if I restart the phone. I have tried every "Solution" under the sun to fix this but there doesn't seem to be any fix and you're talking months to get a warranty replacement, if they would even acknowledge it. If you check different sites you'll find this widely reported. Seems to be something intrinsic to the software as my mate (also opo) can be in the exact same area on the exact same provider and still have differing levels on signal/data (Have tried this in multiple places). Love this phone and performs well day to day but the bugs are just a total nightmare.

LTE drop outs have been reported by uk owners. its all or nothing it can not hold a low signal on 4G
magnet issue with VR,
Bluetooth issues
Discoloured screens
random reboots
wifi dropouts
Poor battery life on med-Heavy usage
Issues with snapchat
issues with facebook
soft screen coating, so scratches easy
notification not coming through i realtime and infact hours later
And more bugs than you will find in your garden.

I've had one since launch and it's been a complete pleasure to use, especially coming from a Korean brand which seemed to have progressively got slower over the course of the year.

Unlikely - from what I read it wasn't the battery cells themselves that were the problem, and part of the reason for dumping removable batteries (aside from how restrictive they are for the designers) is that it vastly lessened the amount of crap (and dangerous) batteries people were buying off eBay for £2.50 that were also catching fire and giving Samsung (and others) a headache.

I am typing this on my OnePlus 3 which I love. My wife now has my old OnePlus 2 which has a faulty fingerprint sensor. I probably could have had it replaced but didn't want to be without it. My 14 yo son has a OnePlus X which he loves too.
My wife used to have a Samsung S4 mini which Samsung haven't bothered to provide updates for. Samsung phones are also full of Samsung crapware which tries to hijack your data so you never know whether it's on Google or somewhere at Samsung. Oneplus on the other hand, is very close to vanilla Android so switching and upgrading phones is simple.
Great phone, buy one. Voted hot.

There are so many comments from those that clearly don't own this phone it really doesn't help a possible buyer. I have had this phone from release, I didn't own any of the previous phones from this manufacturer so can't comment there. My previous phone was the utterly dire Nexus 5x, for reference. The OnePlus 3 is a premium phone, I do not care what others say. I own one, use it every day and it is a class act. The build quality is excellent, it's not inspired design wise but what phone is nowadays? Does it make compromises to keep this price, yes but in my opinion they are very clever ones and you don't notice them, at all. The most obvious being the 1080p res. It's not flagship standard, but nor does it need to be...yet. I don't think experience is diminished because of the 1080 screen. The OS is fantastic for the simple fact they've left android more or less alone but added some very useful tweaks. The whole phone has a quality about it, and while it doesn't match an S7 overall, it's not far behind batting in the same park at near half the cost!. If having the very best phone is important to you, regardless of cost, then skip over the OnePlus 3. If having a flagship standard phone for half the price of the others works for you, with a couple of compromises that don't bother you. This is a no brainer of a phone! You won't be disappointed with this buy and it's the best phone I've owned since my trusted nexus 4.

Depends. Pixel will have a slightly faster processor (Snapdragon 821 compared to O3's 820). It's stock Android, and you're guaranteed to get updates direct from Google. Other than that, Pixel leaks look pretty underwhelming...and apparently the base model (Pixel 32gb) will be $649...that's roughly £499. For that price, you're better off with O3 unless you care about stock Android and guaranteed updates.

Software-wise it's the fastest phone I've ever used, and while there may be some software issues, OnePlus have been great at pushing new software versions out with fixes etc. This is something that they have been known for being bad at in the past, so it's nice to see that they seem to be maturing as a company.

Of course it's subjective whether you prefer one UI over another. But for someone to say that they "hate" the UI on the S7 when they specifically went out and bought an S7 makes little sense. The UI on that is very different to the TouchWiz of yesteryear and it's fluid and very usable. Multi window for example is just a superb feature, and so many other options can be toggled or changed to user preference rather than being shoved down your throat.

TheUrbis to jamesrugman
27 Sep 16 #32
They're advertising it with the Dash charger.
SilverBlack to jamesrugman

I would think they will come with everything in the box as the OP3 has dash charge and needs a usb type c cable and their dash charger.

I'd bought a OP2, and they released OP3 about a week after, I was able to send my OP2 back and then purchase the OP3 and its brilliant, way faster than the OP2 and tweaks and changes you can make using developer mode are really helpful too. Best phone I'd ever have.

I moved to OP3 from LG g4 and still found it to be a major upgrade. Very easy to root and install xposed etc. Finger print sensor is actually faster than iPhone 6s! (I used to own several iPhones before G4 and my wife still has an iPhone 6, so I am not pro-android or apple). Screen however is poor for text and is just good enough for pictures and video (sRGB mode). Sound quality through the speaker is poor and through headphone jack is average compared to G4 (possibly due to the difference in DAC used). Using viper4android with OP3 makes little to no difference where as with G4 it was able to improve the quality a lot. Battery life is better than G4. I get nearly two days with moderate use. Dash charging is amazing (hope it doesn't explode!). NFC is just a joke. Is it worth £300 (pre-brexit price)? No considering g4 was just £200.

not a very good handset at all, had two and both had to be returned due to fault, Oneplus service was abysmal - had to contact the top dude via email ( easily found on the web ) before anything was resolved.....

OnePlus 2 was full of bugs and I sold it on eBay. That was reasonably priced. This 3rd gen is much more expensive. Personally would suggest the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 for less than half this cost.

This is the only phone that has tempted me to upgrade from my sturdy old Nexus 5, looking to grba one at Christmas I think. Will their prices start to increase as they start stocking store and contracts?

My issue with this phone is the Oxygen OS / Hydrogen OS merge...

Anyone know when this is happening? Hydrogen OS looks trash imo.

64GB not enough?
Skymonkey to bear807
27 Sep 16 #23
Kind of agree but 64GB is a fair amount. I'd like a bigger/replaceable battery - that combined with a 1080p screen (which form me is absolutely adequate) would mean longer tie off-charge.

I kinda wonder that if after the whole Note 7 fiasco if we'll see a more widespread return of replaceable batteries for smartphones.

superb phone, typing this on it now, good performance, good battery life and dash charge is excellent.
recommend the soft gold colour too

It is 64GB mind! That might not be enough for some but the equivalent Samsungs, etc, are mostly 32GB.

Nice spot. Returns and aftercare has been an issue with Oneplus since day one so being able to purchase from O2 is much better.

May not get alot of heat though as this is RRP.
kronos319 to daBluone
27 Sep 16 3 #13
When I bought my OnePlus X there was a compulsory £10 delivery charge which isn't included in the RRP. So if you get it delivered from O2 for free then you may have saved £10

Also, this is a great phone for the price especially after they patched the RAM software bug.

According to OnePlus it'll just be a standard phone, unlocked etc.

27 Sep 16 2 #10
Wouldn't recommend as had one of these and after spending alot of time trying to sort it out sent it back as very glitchy...now have an S7 edge and had no problems whatsoever
Also had a oneplus x that suddenly during calls the sound would go...Really wanted both of these phones to be good but just not worth the hassle imo
