Site seems to show you can reserve for collection, but i couldn't find the option so tried my luck in the local, they had 2 - although they did employ the old trick of forcing you to buy a payg topup when you go to pay , just need to find someone who actually uses o2 to give it now
The unit actually has Lenovo branding, so i guess it was produced by them, its a nice build and feel, slightly bulkier than the wileyfox swift.
I maintain that 5" display is too big though 4.6/7 is perfect for a phone , it looks dumpy and clumsy next to the my old z3 compact and onemini2 , perhaps if it was smaller it would have potential to be as good value as the original motog -
the phone even has functionality to 'shrink the screen for one handed use' so they must know this : /
Oh also unlocked in an hour or so (ebay) for £1.09 , now using on ee.
Even has an sdcard and headphone socket , wonders will never cease ...

The Play is also worse performing.
"Performance is a little tricky on the G4 Play. We ran a few benchmark tests and the device actually performed the same, if not worse, than the 2015 Moto G. It’s very rare for old hardware to outperform the new, but that is the case here.
3DMark Sling Shot using ES 3.0 gave the device a score of 53 — that’s one point less than the Moto G 2015. In comparison, the Moto G4 Plus got a score of 384.
Using GeekBench’s app, the Moto G4 Play received a single-core score of 503 and a multi-core score of 1,267. That’s worse on both accounts compared to the 2015 version, which received 512 and 1,283 respectively.
And when comparing with AnTuTu Benchmark, the G4 Play earned a score of 28,393. That’s almost half of what Meizu’s M3 Note received, and that phone happens to cost the same price. These numbers paint a pretty bleak picture, but benchmarks are one thing — how’s real world performance? Upon immediately setting up the phone, we were greeted to random stutters and lag while moving between Google Now and the home screen, and when scrolling through apps and widgets."
G4 Play is just a rebadged Moto G3 with 16GB. Bizarrely though it does have NFC which G4 and G4 plus don't.

Not quite, the design is very different, the battery is now removable, the CPU is now clocked at 1.2Ghz (1.4Ghz on the G3), the camera is also downgraded to 8MP.

Does this have any o2 bloatware on it, or is it the same as a sim free only locked to o2?

Just stick 2gb ram in these things, it can't be expensive! 1gb ram is infuriating to use, totally cripples a phone.

Nearly £100 with 1GB of RAM! Am I dreaming or a nightmare more like.
Of course some can live with that and that's fine but considering RAM is ~£4 per GB at retail they could have made it 2GB and bumped the price by £5.
But of course they want you to pony up for the full fall G4 but that's a bigger phone so in a different class.
At least it has a headphone jack. :man:

I found that the first Smart phone I had that was truly stable and multi tasking was with 2gb ram. Until that point i found constant headaches. eg no 10 tabs+ open in chrome, no switching between facebook and browser to copy share text etc. They were crippling slow.
Also they had lollypop or earlier. God know how bad a 1gb phone would be with Marshmallow. I would definitely avoid

Shame it's only 1GB ram or I'd be tempted, it's just not feasible anymore, browsing the internet in Chrome, get a whatsapp message so switch to that, read it, go back to chrome and it's been force closed to free memory and everything needs to be reloaded. Painful.
Is this definitely 1GB as I was under the impression the 16GB is only 2GB ram.

maybe, but in reality literally no one will realise the new waterproofing benefit. even none water proof phones are water proof enough for most people, they are not going swimming with the phone.

yeah looks good, shame that it is now discontinued. I couldn't find anywhere in uk selling it , only the 5.5 version or the new idol 4 which is a 5.2" :disappointed:
Couple on eBay or Amazon but they are almost 200 quid !

it is locked to o2 , but you can unlock for a quid on eBay. very minimal extra software , literally a couple of apps that's it. original moto g was similar if I remember rightly.

No it's water resistant.
"5. Advanced nano-coating technology creates a water repellent barrier to help protect against moderate exposure to water such as accidental spills, splashes or light rain. Not designed to be submersed in water, or exposed to pressurized water, or other liquids; Not waterproof."
vs
"* Designed to withstand immersion in up to 3 feet of fresh water for up to 30 minutes provided the back cover is properly sealed. Not designed to work while submerged underwater. Do not use while swimming, or subject it to pressurized streams of water. Not dustproof."

Not sure which phone you mean ( the g4 play ?) but thats a good shout actually, i normally wouldn't look at alcatel but as a budget phone it cant be too bad. Also the sony e is a 1.5gb ram phone similar to this - that's just £100 still 5" though.

the Alcatel idol 3 is 70 in o2 online it's 4.7 screen 1.5gb of ram and stereo speakers it's most likely better than that phone

this one is waterproof too, and camera is **** on all mobiles really so never a consideration tbh, the difference is probably unnoticeable.
and as I just said that is the 8gb version in o2 , I guess the same for vodafone too.
so with this having Android 6 and more storage , this is still a better option I think.
internet browsing is much slower than I'm used to though, and I'm not getting on with the size of it at all - so currently looking for something else. Its got to be less than 5 inch though, and I dont want to pay 500 for a sony , how annoying. -
Really need a phone by next week and there is nothing in a decent size with snapdragon 810 or the like in the shops.

I've updated the title to reflect this as you are the second person to suggest that is the case.

problem is this phone isn't as good as the 3rd gen.which can be had cheaper in one gig of ram form
check_your_bank to tranceazure
23 Sep 16#9
The 3rd gen 8gb is the same price , i cant find 16gb one but i guess it must be more - Specs look pretty much the same except the software version, which i doubt will be updated on the 3 so that's a big black mark for it, when you mentioned earlier version i got my hopes up thinking it would be smaller screen , but same 5" display too - so id say this is better than the 3 due to software alone, others downsides exist on both it seems.
Another mention, this phone doesnt connect to wireless AC (or 5ghz at all) which is pretty poor for a phone of this age (again onemini2 and z3c have this), seems to limit internet speed considerably compared to an ac connected phone , and this an important factor for me.

Just as an observation, with the OS (6) running an pretty much nothing else just a new launcher and couple of basic apps installed its running with 620MB / 898MB ram free so i don't think 1GB Ram is totally crippling, really depends what you want to do with it though , if you have high expectations you probably would need a higher spec though i guess.

Not an awful price, but very disappointing that they released it in the UK with only 1GB RAM, despite including 16GB Storage.
Purchasing a top-up is not mandatory when purchasing via the O2 shop online. You are simply selecting the tariff that you would like, the cost of the tariff is not added at checkout.

I did see that appeared to be the case online, although the point of choosing a top up type for a pay as you go phone if you are not going to be sold one is eluding me, i didn't complete purchase online though as i could only find delivery option and i wanted to collect one, thought id try my luck instead (asking for trouble)
In store the guy confirmed it was compulsory, he seemed so happy about it too, i guess this is some kind of guaranteed up-sale they have for commission.

Its the Moto G4 with a smaller screen, camera and only 1GB Ram ( i am presuming as o2 don't mention it)
Its not what you have listed its a Moto Play not the G4 version so you need to change your listing

I don't think there are 2 versions, the Moto G play is a spin off of the 'G4', which just means generation 4 - it also seems to actually be a newer handset than the G4, So call it G4 Play or just Play i don't think it makes a difference.
