Miscreated post-apocalyptic survival game half price on Steam. I have 100+ hours so far, I would definitely recommend it.
Usual price £14.99

Why this cold? Don't think it's much cheaper anywhere else?

Yup according to Isthereanydeal.com this is the cheapest it has ever been. Heat from me.

So how does it compare to DayZ?

Good price and sounds fun, however, I tend to avoid early access and I don't think I'll change my mind for this.

Looks promising. The construction element looks well thought out and good fun - even more so when building as part of a team. However, as the server admin of a PC gaming community, the inability to run dedicated servers for this game is a real showstopper. I would recommend investigating 7 Days to Die, Empyrion and (saving the best till last) Ark:Survival Evolved before spending your cash on this one.
Heat for the bargain price.

ARK has mostly negative reviews.
7 days to Die doesn't look too bad though.

Post apocalyptic? Check
Zombies? Check
Early Access? Check
I'd avoid if I were you, even for £7.50. Don't forget you can refund from Steam if you do it within 2 weeks and have less than 2 hours play time

Early access scam. How about you finish making the game before trying to sell it.

Because it's in development, hence the title Early Access, hence the disclaimer in the product page. Early Access in principle isn't a scam just take a look at Black Mesa, Kerbal Space Program, Prision Architect and even Minecraft.

What an odd thing to say, I am sure you don't pre-order games either? If it says early access, then avoid it simple.
This game is honestly great, the weather dynamics are incredible. I nearly lost my s*** when I see a tornado after 80+ hours in the game. The devs are really busy making the game better they are rolling out a new update every month, I understand the issue with dedicated servers. At this price it's well worth a go.

I loved the dayz mod so I'm really tempted. "Release Date: 30 Oct, 2014", have the devs suggested when the game might be out of early access?

I've never played ARK, but I think the negative reviews are largely down to people's dislike of their recent paid DLC release (given that the game is still early access).

That is indeed the case. Ark is as good if not better than most so-called triple A releases by major game houses. You can safely ignore any nagging doubts you might have about the 'early access' badge on Ark. It is a truly wonderful survival game.

The Early Access banner is enough to put me off, but also seeing it has been almost 2 years since initial release and still in EA is not a good sign.
I liked the concept of EA - allowing developers and their community to interact before a game is completed and released - but that sadly isn't what Steam EA has become. Instead the EA banner gets used to defend content released far too early by teams or individuals with little idea how to complete and release their vision of the game.
Now with less time for gaming to gamble on the promises of EA, instead I will let it be the filter, and from the 100 games that promise to be the next best thing in the post-apocalyptic, zombie-fighting, hardcore, survival MMO genre, maybe one or two will actually make it through to a proper release.
When I see one that looks interesting I add it to my wishlist, but more often than not when I review those lists from time to time there is little progress on the games, or the devs have gone bust, or the community soured against them.

I bought the game when it first came out. It was honestly dire back then and shouldn't have been released, but 2 years on, it's fantastic. I'm enjoying this more than DayZ now.
Don't let the EA banner put you off. The Dev's are constantly adding content all the time and expanded the map.
