OK- already an amazing price for an amazing phone. This is bettered when going through Top Cashback who are giving £63 cash back making it £276!!
One thing I would say is that all the complaints about bugs have all but being fixed due to loads of updates since its admittedly premature launch. Redstone 2 is one the way to bring even more features.
As a workhorse tool this is first class. It is lacking in many niche apps- nothing new- we all know that so don't bother posting about zero apps.
What is does do is have virtually all the apps you need to use every day. There are also plenty of 3rd party apps to work around the app gap which operate well. Finally, with the power of the processor and quality of screen, even mobile apps work great on this phone. You can even add web links to the home screen which look like app icons.
Finally, you are supporting a company that pays tax and who's founder Bill Gates is giving all his money to charity before he dies. You could argue this is the 'ethical phone' for people who don't follow the herd and are intelligent enough to not need to.
You also get a free display dock.
Unidays offer - 15% discount on using their code. Not sure cashback will track when using it.

Yawn. It's not like the phone will stop working at the strike of midnight. Great spec. Great price.

Software drives a platform. This has always been the case. Anyone that remembers the Texas Instruments TI99/4A home computer will remember that it had great hardware (for the time, first home computer with 16bit CPU). However TI didn't open up things for developers and this meant a lack of software and the platform quickly died.
Now there's a different set of circumstances with Windows Phone.
1. Microsoft came far too late to the party and they'd found Apple and Google had eaten all the cake and already left.
2. This in turn led to a distinct lack of apps and this has always plagued the platform.
3. Microsoft are killing off Lumia and bringing out Surface phone, which will be a premium only product such as with Apple. IOS and Windows Phone are alike, both tuned to the hardware far better than Android could ever hope to be, but also in turn lack the massive customisation capability of Android. Anyway the point is that Microsoft need to rebrand and they are and then they have more than a mountain to climb to try and replicate what Apple have done with the iPhone.
Should you buy this phone? The easy answer is check that it has all the software you require, because you're out on a limb if it doesn't. Also bear in mind as your requirements grow; that lack of apps problem may grow to be a much bigger problem for you.

No, it won't stop working and like any other phone you buy it will be succeeded (in this case by next years Surface Phone) but hey - this is an awesome phone and at a great price.

The lumia brand is being killed off, the next handsets will be surface phones.
This is a bit like the BHS closing down sale: The stock is good, but it's not good enough, and it's a bit "old hat".

One of the reasons I was going to get an iPhone 7, in fact the only reason, was to get the 4K video feature (even although the 6S has it).
I see this MS 950XL has 4K video shooting as well - can anyone tell me what its truly like with the built in mic and all? I tend to take a lot of family videos outdoors so this would potentially save me a lot of £££££
Thanks OP for posting.

The one plus 3 shoots 4k video too. Both of these phones are better than the iPhone 7 and at less than half the price too.

If all you want is 4k Video shooting you could pick up a second had Lumia 1520 and have a holiday with the savings. (or get this phone and have a slightly less extravagant holiday?). The 4k video from this phone looks great - why don't you check out some of the examples from the web?
Many many phones will record 4k video...Even my 2yr Galaxy Note 4 records 4k video.....

I have this and although I moan about Windows 10 Mobile alot, the 950xl has got a higher res screen (1440 x 2560) and camera (20Mp) than the iphone 7 and like many Lumia's, can charge wirelessly and take micro sd cards (so you don't have to pay Apple's excessive rates for more storage). Its even got a headphone socket.
If you don't need alot of apps this might be perfect. Unfortunately I do so it breaks my heart.

Lacks in mainstream apps also otherwise I might be tempted although there is almost a concern as to how long WP10 will get security updates for!
A real shame as I enjoyed WP7.5 back in the day when it seemed well ahead of the curve.
