Solid workhorse laptop, ideal for back to school/university. The Pentium 3825u CPU is a 5th generation core model, roughly equivalent to an i3. Also has DVD plus RW optical drive, card reader, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 HDMI port. WiFi, Bluetooth, and LAN.
Originally with Windows 8.1, may have Windows 10 installed when refurbished.
If you're inclined to upgrade it, around £70 would buy a 250GB SSD and another 4GB RAM.
Update 2 : All the silver and blue finish models have sold. They still have more in purple (link follows) - although they're another £10 more expensive for some reason, I've not expired the deal, but now use the link below :
I also WORK with laptops. Your comment is a massive sweeping statement!!

With only a 15W cpu it would take only minimal cooling to keep this under control. In a full size laptop chassis such as this though I shouldn't imagine any grief keeping it cool unless it's just plain faulty, in which case you return it for another.
It's the same with devices from any manufacturer, when devices are this cheap a certain percentage are going to have faults. It has a 12 month warranty and they are some pretty usable specs for a dirt cheap device. If you're expecting it to be built like a Thinkpad then you're going to be very disappointed but if you're in the market for a device this cheap and you have realistic expectations of what it is then it's a perfectly good laptop,

yeee and not just that, they did not honour the last misprice at £1.58 for the top of the range £2000 laptop. Never going to buy from them

I have had a HP since Vista and is still very reliable.Bought the highest spec at the time and am still happy with it. The kids want it now as their Acer bought after it is so slow its almost unusable.
I guess durability depends on model, spec and how it is used

Me and everyone I know with an HP laptop has eventually ended up with a cracked left hinge which prises up the casing and **** up the system fan. Does anyone know if HP resolved this issue?

HP only make their business range of laptops. Their consumer range is made by Quanta. So all consumer HP laptops just have a HP badge on them. HP business laptops such as Elitebooks are real HP laptops.
Good deal. Heat added. Suitable for school going teenager.

Thumbs up, a lot of people in the ask section wanting a laptop for their child for school should consider this.

I am on the lookout for a new laptop but would never buy a hp I have had endless problems with the fan and over heating. it's gonna be cheaper buying a new one than getting it fixed every other month

Is this not suitable for a basic small business? Word processing, file storage, Internet etc. Just students/kids?

It would easily be fine for that, it's fairly powerful compared to most budget laptops, and even the lower powered models would cope with what you want
