Don't know about the longevity on Hitachi brand, seen this instore and handled it..
Would rather put my money on Bosch or De-Walt, this just looks and feels so cheap

I have it for 5 years moderate use very good.
Never let me down.

Drill ok but the chucks on these bad boys are unbelievably shocking . Drill bits often come out and the chuck slips into torque mode when drilling.

Had my Hitachi drill 4 years without issue.

I've got the previous version to this and it's OK. The prongs at the bottom of the drill keep bending in, therefore don't touch the battery terminals and it cuts out. Also as mentioned the chucks are garbage but most modern drills are the same. Mine gets heavy use

The wife has been asking for an Hitachi for Christmas.

This might have helped me drill that request down. I reckon she will be glowing in to the new year.

How does this compare?

Hitachi drills are supposed to be excellent, but I've got a Bosch professional with a 4.0ah battery for the same money with a lot more torque than this one. You'll need high torque figures if you want to easily drive screws into dense materials

Had this drill for about a year now, but with the 2 x 1.5 batteries, they charge in about 25 minutes do hasn't been much of an issue really. Handled everything I've thrown at it so far. Only wish I'd got the kit with an impact driver in it aswell.

Had one of these for a good few years.
No problems whatsoever.

My 18v Dewalt has been going strong for the last 11 years bought in 2005 and used heavily every week without an issue, so if your going through Dewalts every 10 months you or your employees are abusing the tool, thats a fact!!
Like I say Bosch and Dewalt still the defacto drills out there.

Yes the chuck can loosen a bit but it's not terrible. Overall, really good.

I would swear by hitachi my kit is made up of them and by god I put them to work!

I've bought many of these drills (with the 1.5Ah battery I believe) and wholly stand by them as a sturdy product. I bought one, it was great, bought five more for the workshop. They have survived being dropped, a bit wet, heavy use and cycling through batteries. I believe the Hitachi brand to be a good quality make in the realms of DeWalt, Makita, Bosch Pro and Milwaukee. The hammer function is pretty standard from what you'd expect from a combi drill (not going to get you through concrete but fine for brick and such).

I bought the previous package at £99 and would recommend it all the time.

If you buy this then I highly recommend that you pair it with one of these to make use of the spare battery.

If they're all getting the same treatment and the DeWalts don't last then they're not as robust as the Hitachis, clearly. Makita are the best out there, but they have your eyes out for the batteries (and quite often only provide one with the tool).

I'm torn between this and the Bosch professional drill (single 4Ah battery) on screwfix for the same price. Thoughts?
