The legislation coming in December is only for new car seats purchased when the law is introduced. Current boosters will still be allowed.

I don't speed or text, talk, snap chat whilst driving. My life and my passengers are too important. As are the lives of the other road users and pedestrians I pass.

I don't use the best seats chosen through reviews and safety tests to please anyone else. They are not a fashion statement or a bragging piece. I use them to hopefully keep my children as safe as I can should the worst happen. I was also a child in cars with seat belts only. Driven with none etc and I'm still here. Doesn't mean I would do the same with anyone in my car now.

Traded in my booster seat today as it doesn't sit in new car properly and they scan a code that gave 40% off. Happy days.

I've never read such a silly comment! In 1984 I was a 7 year old passenger in a car that had no child seats and no seatbelts in the back. I was injured (thankfully not to seriously) and very shaken up when a car ran into the back of us in a queue of traffic. So I for one am grateful for the fact that cars now have seatbelts in the back and my own daughter, who is 7, is able to use a high backed booster. She'll be in it until she outgrows it by height, I'm guessing she'll be 10 because she's a little under the average height for her age. Thankfully she knows she's safe and that car seat's aren't just for babies

I like the idea of older kids staying in the carseats longer, when my family moved to booster seats i always felt they werent quite ready. I wouldnt be able to get them to move back now, but this is just the transition stage and future generations of kids would just accept it as normal to stay in them longer. Like people have posted, if it saves just 1 life then its worthwhile.

I'm not sure that 'common sense' is an appropriate name for the poster...

My son is 8 and has hit the magic 135cm so legally doesn't have to use a booster but as the recommendation is 150cm he's staying put. Call it a nanny state but experts who perform tests know a lot more about these things than I do.

1) A poster kindly pointing out that current booster seats are not becoming illegal which is useful to know.
2) Are high back seats safer? The answer is probably yes

I Clicked and collected over the weekend, and they didnt ask for the booster seat.
I bought 2x recaro Monza.
I had a look around, and worst case, you could buy the cheapest seat at £7.50 and hand that one back in.
My children are 5 and 7 and have booth been rear facing up until now in the Britax 2 way seats. This was for a number of reasons, and our own research.
I also rode in tha back and front of cars without seat belts, rode motorbikes in spain at 14, and cycles here in london without helmets, I have an advanced driving certification and pretty much one of the safest cars on the roads, 25 years driving experience with many miles under my belt, but still believe its better to be safe than sorry, especially with the plethora of information, research and statistics.

Brilliant. I am really glad Halfords is doing this. hopefully it will encourage more parents out there to ditch those horrendous no backed booster seats. They offer absolutely no side impact protection in a crash, so i am glad new legislation is coming. We are already behind other countries in terms of this legislation.

I didn't see this deal and have just purchased the Brit roomer for my 9 year old I had put him on a booster I think too early I think it's pretty clear these type of seats are needed for kids up to about 12 years or 150 cm take a look at which.com video on booster seats if you need any convincing

Yes, when I said 'outgrown' I was thinking closer to 150cm than 135. My son is 148cm tall (nearly 11 years old) and has only just, within the last few weeks, started sitting in our car without any form of booster. On the rare occasions he ever goes in the front he'll still need a booster though because the seatbelt is still far too high over his stomach and not where it should be (low down on his pelvis)

Why are dogs permitted to sit in the back? What if the car is hit from the back and the dog goes forward, causing damages to the front passengers or car? Why the difference? Ban dogs from the front and back seats of a car.

I suggest you do some homework before flinging around stupid comments, starting with the Highway Code might be a good place to start...

Rule 58 of the Highway Code deals with travelling with pets and states:

“When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.”

But the Highway Code is a code. Does it constitute law? Much of it is advice.

"Although failure to comply with the other rules would not, in itself, cause a person to be prosecuted, the Highway Code may be used in court under the Road Traffic Act to establish liability. These include advisory rules with wording 'should' and 'should not' or 'do' and 'do not."

Many people do not restrain dogs. They sit in the back or front without restraints. Can you point to a single prosecution?

Just ordered a Maxi-Cosi Rodi online. Was already price matched to £100, so got an extra £20 off with the saferseat code. Bought for delivery, and can't see Royal Mail being interested in taking an old booster seat back....

Can anyone advise what I should purchase for a 7 year old? Haven't bought a seat in a while as been using a full back graco plus normal booster in other two cars so a bit rusty in car seat knowledge. Thanks
