This is my first post so please be gentle but I just thought this was a great deal.
So it was time for the yearly compare for my dad's home insurance as his current policy renewal had been bumped up by £15.
I went through quidco and noticed John Lewis was offering cashback for different policies.
I also realised they were also offering a free Nest Protect worth £89 for every new policy taken before 17th November plus 20% off
So my dad just took out the basic essentials home and contents policy (no added extras) which came to £96 so we ended up with £30 cashback and a free £89 Nest Protect. So hypothetically we've got the policy and earned about £20!
So although I've posted the direct link to John Lewis home insurance you will need to go through quidco first to get the cashback

I had major hassle to get mine. Insurance started 1st October and I claimed the same day. After the 60 days allowed for delivery I sent an email - no reply. I phoned and waited 10 minutes for a pick-up and was told no-one on that number could sort my problem. The number was given in the emails I had on registering for Nest Protect!! I ws promised I would get a call back that day. Never happened.
Eventually I wrote to a John Lewis Director (Name and address from Companies House) and then things started to happen.
I got an email saying it would be delivered in 5 days. It wasn't. The on the 6th day I got another email saying it was on its way and would arrive next day. It arrived two days later. My insurance only cost £95 and the Nest Protect value to me is £89, so they were probably hoping I'd forget!

Yeah I did register for it. just rang them and been told they have a shipment coming in next week, so hopefully it might arrive before the policy runs out

Me too, you can register for it straight away. You will get emails confirming with the order numbers etc.??
You did register for the NEST after you took out the policy didn't you. It won't get automatically sent out.
I want another one for downstairs now.

I got mine about 2 or 3 weeks after the policy started. I would get on the phone and ask for a tracking number.

Installed my mains one today, and also linked it up with my lights so the whole house lights up like a christmas tree if it senses danger!
Great deal, I love it lighting up the landing when I go for a pee in the middle of the night as well.
Excellent, thanks again,.

As my policy is expiring next month I had a look on this deal. Unfortunately quotes from comparison websites are £80 cheaper than the one offered by John Levis. This makes the whole deal for me not worth a hassle.
Given the comments, I see that there are people for whom it worked like a charm so heat from me

The Nest Protect is for SPECIALIST Home Insurance, i.e. for a buy-to-let, holiday home, or something other than your main residence. I don't think you will get the Nest for your main residence.

That is not how I understand it from the website . It says with every policy . What made you think that ?

This is incorrect, The NEST protect is available for new customers taking out either the Essential, Plus or Premier levels of cover & is also available for the Specialist home insurance cover.

my home insurance isn't due till next year. Can I get this early (renew for 2017) OR have two policies running at same time if price works out?

I could not find anything that said you had to have it running before Nov 17th, only the payment to qualify for the Nest. It's probably not worth having two policies running concurrently. It would look suspicious in the event of a claim.

Thank you - went through Compare the Market so also got the 2-4-1 cinema tickets for 12months + the alarm + they were substantially cheaper than my renewal quote - just hope they are good in the event of a claim!

I bought this policy (with the Nest) a month ago - missed the Quidco deal :-( The policy (for buildings and contents) was £110 cheaper, with better cover, than my renewal from Tesco, (Tesco renewal was £100 up from last year WITHOUT a claim). Phoned Tesco to cancel and the guy asked why I was cancelling (not happy with price) and what was my best price? Told him and he just said "Can't even attempt to beat that mate. I won't even try. Sorry to lose you though" (Nice to get an honest person on the phone for a change). Still waiting on Nest delivery but have had confirmation email of delivery. Heat added OP.

Tesco have had some change in how they do policies, I know quite a few people that had biig hikes from them or just had their policies all out cancelled for either home or vehicle. Honestly they sound like they are getting out of the market with the prices and conditions they are doing now.
First part of my comment above was a reply to yours, but it didn't add your comment on for some reason!

I only just bought a new home insurance policy and am still within the 14 days fee-free cancellation period, so I was all set to cancel that one and get this John Lewis one, a nest protect to go with my nest thermostat!
But then I did a quote and even the basic policy, with no home emergency cover and no legal cost £60 more than the L&G policy I got which DOES! The John Lewis policy that does have those protections is a full £300 more than the L&G one.
Not worth it for me.
